Samsung Galaxy Note 10: release date, price, news and leaks Posted: 28 Jun 2019 02:31 PM PDT Update: The latest leak shows photos of what could be the Galaxy Note 10 with a central punch-hole selfie camera and triple-rear cameras, while a Samsung official has reportedly said the Note 10 range will land in August. The Samsung Galaxy Note 10 needs to seriously wow consumers to get the smartphone series back in the spotlight, and we're beginning to hear plenty of Galaxy Note 10 leaks and rumors suggesting it could pull it off. We've also put together a list of what we'd like to see from Samsung and its next flagship phablet - features that could help propel the handset to the top of every phone fan's wish list. The Samsung Galaxy Note 9 is packed full of tech with a few new features. But in a lot of ways, the phone still feels like a small upgrade to the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 released in the previous year. So while we're looking forward to the next version of Samsung's notable phone, we’re hoping for more from the Samsung Galaxy Note 10. We want robust, recognizable changes and upgrades that justify its inevitably enormous price tag. We’ve listed some of our specific hopes below, but before that you’ll find rumors and educated guesses at the release date, specs and features of the Galaxy Note 10. So could the upcoming smartphone top our list of the best Android phones? We'll have to wait to find out. We have a potential launch date: August 7, per a report, at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. This is the same venue and a similar date to last year, which makes it all the more probable that this date is real. We'll wait for Samsung to confirm... Cut to the chase
Samsung Galaxy Note 10 release date and priceIt’s likely that the Samsung Galaxy Note 10 launch date will be some point in August 2019, as in recent years Samsung has announced new Galaxy Note handsets in August. Not only that, but a Samsung official has reportedly said as much, adding that the delay of the Galaxy Fold won't affect it. We even have some possible dates. A recent report suggests it might launch on August 7. August 10 has also been rumored, but we'd take the latter with a pinch of salt, not least because it's a Saturday, which is an unusual day to launch a phone. That said, that date comes from a South Korean source, so due to time differences it's possible that the date would be August 10 in South Korea but August 9 for much of the world. That's very possible as the Galaxy Note 9 was announced on August 9 last year. In any case, even once the Galaxy Note 10 is announced it will likely be at least a couple of weeks before you can buy it, so don’t be surprised if it doesn’t hit stores until late August or September 2019. As for the Samsung Galaxy Note 10 price, the Note 9 starts at $1,000 (£899, AU$1,499) and it gets even more expensive if you want more storage and more RAM. Given that smartphone prices generally seem to be rising we’d expect the Samsung Galaxy Note 10 will cost at least this much. Samsung Galaxy Note 10 design and display rumorsWe've finally got a leak of what could be the Note 10 in a trio of photos (including the one above): a single central punch-hole on the front display housing a selfie camera, no visible speaker (indicating a possible sound-conducting screen), and a vertically-aligned triple rear camera setup. Our previous close look at the possible design of the Samsung Galaxy Note 10 can be seen in the video below. You can see that it has a curved screen, a single-lens punch-hole camera on the front, a triple-lens camera on the back, a metal frame, and no Bixby button or headphone jack. A case leak also suggests there's no headphone jack - though some other leaks below disagree. The phone also apparently has up to 12GB of RAM and either a Snapdragon 855 or Exynos 9820 chipset, depending on region. The source adds that the screen is apparently 6.3 inches, likely with a 1440 x 3040 resolution, and that the dimensions may be 162.6 x 77.4 x 7.9mm - though we'd take all that with a pinch of salt, as it would mean a smaller screen yet a larger body than the Note 9. Plus, one other rumor we've heard is that the Note 10 will apparently have a 6.66-inch screen. And we've heard that not once, but twice already! That's up from 6.4 inches on the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 and while we'd take this with a pinch of salt it's believable, given that phone screens keep getting bigger, and given that the Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus is 6.4 inches and we'd expect the next Note to be bigger than anything in the S range. However it's possible there will be two different Samsung Galaxy Note 10 models, as we've heard rumors that as well as a 6.75-inch phone Samsung will release a smaller Note 10 only in Europe. The larger of the two (or more) models might be called the Samsung Galaxy Note 10 Pro, as that's a name that we've heard rumored now. The screen of this Pro is apparently 6.75 inches, 1440 x 3040 and said to support HDR10+, while the rest of the specs apparently include up to 12GB of RAM, and a Snapdragon 855 or Exynos 9820 chipset, depending on region. It's worth noting that leaked case renders for both models match the designs above, so they could well be accurate. But there are other sources that say the Note 10 will have a 6.4-inch screen while the Note 10 Pro will have a 6.8-inch one - which is slightly larger than we'd heard before. Finally, they add that the Note 10 will start in a 128GB size, while the Note 10 Pro will start at 256GB, rising to 1TB. Another source meanwhile says that while the Note 10 Pro will have a microSD card slot, the standard Note 10 won't. The Note 10 is also almost certainly going to have a curved Super AMOLED screen. You can probably expect water resistance too, given that all recent Samsung flagships have that. A few different rumors have given us a clearer idea of the color choices Samsung might offer for the Note 10. It seems the company will be offering a red version as well as a gradient finish, which we expect to be the silver version of the phone. Other color rumors include Black, White, Silver and Pink, which suggests we won't get a Lavender Purple version like we did on the Galaxy Note 9. There may be some hope for those who want to see the headphone jack retained on the Samsung Galaxy Note 10, as a different case leak appears to have a small indentation for a headphone jack. Another source has also said it has one, but for now we're not certain whether it does or not. Samsung Galaxy Note 10 camera rumorsThe Samsung Galaxy Note 10 Pro could have a quad-lens camera according to one report. That's a claim we've now heard multiple times. In fact, we've even seen leaked renders showing four lenses, along with a design that's otherwise similar to leaks of the standard Note 10. The camera hardware meanwhile is apparently the same as the Note 9 (though that doesn't necessarily rule out extra lenses). The source of these renders says that the extra lens is a Time of Flight (ToF) depth-sensing one, with the other lenses apparently being a 12MP main one, a 12MP telephoto one, and a 16MP ultra-wide one. A source has said that the camera position for both the front and rear lenses will be different on the Note 10, with the rear moving from a horizontal to a vertical arrangement, which would match most leaks. According to the source, these camera changes are the main design changes to the phone, so the Galaxy Note 10 might look a lot like the Note 9. The source of these claims has since followed them up with sketches of what seems to be the Note 10's camera block (below), showing the vertical arrangement with three lenses. They also claim that the front-facing camera will just be a single-lens one, as we've seen elsewhere. One respected leaker has also suggested the Galaxy Note 10's main camera will have three apertures, of f/1.5, f/1.8 and f/2.4, instead of the usual one aperture smartphone cameras have. This would make it very versatile at shots in different lighting conditions and for different fields of view. Samsung Galaxy Note 10 battery life rumorsWe've also heard rumors that the Samsung Galaxy Note 10 (or at least the Pro version) could have a 4,500mAh battery - up from 4,000mAh on the Note 9. And it might charge fast, with multiple sources suggesting it will exceed 25W (the Galaxy S10 is only 15W). One claim points to it reaching as much as 45W. Then again, another source disputes that, saying that actually it will just be 25W, so we're really not sure at the moment. There's also some dispute about the battery size, with a source saying that both the Note 10 and Note 10 Pro will have a 4,170mAh battery. Samsung Galaxy Note 10 features and spec rumorsA report says that the Note 10 has the model number SM-N975F. Note handsets usually have a '0' as the last number, so there's speculation that this could denote a 5G variant. We're now almost certain that there will be a 5G version of the Galaxy Note 10, because Verizon has said as much. Plus, mention of a 5G model has also been found in Samsung source code. One report has a radical prediction: the Note 10 won't have physical buttons. Instead, the phone will use touch sensors, like the capacitive pads we've seen on the Nubia Red Magic Mars and elsewhere, for users to fiddle with volume and power. Presumably, it would also replace the notorious Bixby button with a touchpad. Having said that, another source has disputed this claim, saying there will in fact be physical buttons. Plus, the leaked renders we've seen all show buttons. Another, slightly less radical but still impressive feature is Sound-on-Display (SoD), which means the screen vibrates to create sound instead of a front-facing speaker, and we've heard the Galaxy Note 10 might have this. We've seen SoD in a few phones already, namely the Huawei P30 Pro and LG G8 ThinQ, but it's still an important feature if the phone does end up having it. In more vague news, the Galaxy Note 10 is apparently codenamed 'Da Vinci'. Given that Leonardo da Vinci was a famous painter that could hint at upgrades to the S Pen, though exactly what those upgrades would be is unclear. Leonardo da Vinci was also very talented in lots of other ways though, so this could equally be a suggestion that the Note 10 will be a very versatile phone. Beyond that we can take some educated guesses as to what the Note 10 might offer. For one thing, based on past form it will probably use the same chipset as the Samsung Galaxy S10. That means either a Snapdragon 855 or an Exynos 9820, depending on where you are in the world. They're both top-end though. The Galaxy S10 also has an in-screen fingerprint scanner and a camera cut-out in the screen, rather than a notch or big bezels, so those are likely features of the Note 10. Indeed, both of those things have been rumored. What we want to seeWhile there’s no Samsung Galaxy Note 10 news just yet, we have a good idea of what we want from it. You’ll find our seven main suggestions below. 1. A customizable Bixby buttonAs much as Samsung might want us to use Bixby in favor of Google Assistant the reality is that for the most part it’s just not as good, and Google has so much of a head start that we doubt it ever will be. That wouldn’t be an issue except that Samsung insists on putting a physical Bixby button on its Note phones, so for the Samsung Galaxy Note 10 we either want this to be removed or to be customizable, so you can set it to launch something other than Bixby. The good news is this should happen, because it's a feature that since writing this wish Samsung has started bringing to its phones - maybe the South Korean company really is listening to us. 2. HDR video recordingMany high-end handsets can now record HDR video, but the Galaxy Note 9 can’t. It’s a shame, because it’s a noticeably weak point in a camera that’s otherwise great. So we really want to see HDR recording offered by the Samsung Galaxy Note 10. And not just any HDR, but 4K HDR (which is also offered by some rivals), so it can shoot videos that look as good as its photos surely will. 3. An in-screen fingerprint scannerThe Note 9 has a fingerprint scanner on the back, which allows for slim bezels on the front (though still more of a bottom bezel than we’d have hoped to see) but arguably makes it slightly trickier to reach than a front-facing scanner. We also noted in our review that it’s too small and too close to the camera, making it easy to accidentally hit that instead and smudge the lens. So for the Samsung Galaxy Note 10 we want the scanner on the front, but rather than being under the screen we want it built into the screen, like the Galaxy S10 and some other phones are now doing. 4. A completely new lookThe Note 9 is a nice looking phone, but it’s also similar in design to the last few and the bezels are starting to feel a bit much compared to the likes of the iPhone X and Huawei P20 Pro. So we’d like to see a design overhaul for the Samsung Galaxy Note 10. It can keep the water resistance and the curvy screen, but hopefully the rest of the design will change to something fresher and more modern. 5. A lower priceThere’s no getting around the fact that the Note 9 is a very, very expensive phone and we’re expecting the Samsung Galaxy Note 10 will be at least as pricey. But we’re hoping it won’t be. If Samsung can shave a couple of hundred dollars/pounds off the price then it could have far wider appeal. 6. Improved facial recognitionThe Galaxy Note 9 has both an iris scanner and facial recognition, but - as we note in our review - even combined these sensors are no match for Apple’s Face ID, so we’d like to see real improvements here for the Samsung Galaxy Note 10. That will probably mean packing in more and better cameras and sensors on the front so it can build up an accurate 3D picture of our face. That could be expensive and make removing the bezel trickier, but if it leads to a fast, secure scanner that works in almost all lighting then it might be worth it. 7. An even longer-lasting batteryFor the Galaxy Note 9 Samsung upped the range’s battery size to 4,000mAh, delivering over a day of life in the process. That’s good work, but we want to see further improvements for the Samsung Galaxy Note 10, especially given that batteries wear out over time, so if you plan to hold on to the phone for two years or more you might notice significantly reduced life by the end. On that note, if Samsung can make the battery degrade slower that would be appreciated too.

Best mobile hotspots for 4G LTE and 5G in 2019: portable wireless routers for traveling Posted: 28 Jun 2019 02:04 PM PDT Welcome to our pick of the best mobile hotspots for 4G and 5G mobile data connections in 2019. If you do a lot of travelling and don't want to put your data or information at risk by relying on open Wi-Fi connections, then you'll want a mobile Wi-Fi hotspot device. These hubs allow for several devices to connect to one or more data SIMs – usually 4G ones – to surf privately and safely. Much like a smartphone's SIM card, these data-only deals allow you access to the internet in complete security. You can use a monthly contract, or use a pay-as-you-go SIM, so you know exactly how much data you are paying for. The best thing about 4G data is that it is incredibly fast, so you'll be able to browse the internet as if you were connected to a broadband connection. It means it will also often be faster than free or shared Wi-Fi spots, which usually have data limits and a lot of traffic to deal with. In 2019, we also expect to see more 5G mobile hubs hitting the stores. 5G is the latest generation of mobile internet, offering speeds that are far faster than 4G data connections. While 5G is in its infancy, there are not currently any 5G mobile hotspots, though the Netgear Nighthawk 5G Mobile Hotspot is coming out later this year. As soon as 5G mobile hotspots are available, they'll be included in this list – as long as they are good enough. Mobile hubs range from a simple one SIM solution with a battery to models that can accommodate 10 different SIM cards, or others that even sport a complete Android operating system. Below are the best mobile Wi-Fi routers you can buy in the UK, catering to all tastes, from frugal surfers to power users and everything in between.
The HTC 5G Hub is currently the best 5G mobile hotspot money can buy. Sure, there's not a huge amount of competition out there at the moment, as 5G is still relatively new, but HTC has come out of the gate with a winner. EE, the UK's biggest network provider, is offering data subscriptions with this hotspot. It's not cheap – you pay £100 upfront and then £50 a month for 50GB of data – but you are getting a very accomplished bit of kit. It can handle up to 20 wireless devices connected at once, which should be enough for most households, and an Ethernet port for wired devices as well. A powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 processor powers the device, and there's a 5-inch HD touchscreen that gives you all the information you need to keep an eye on your 5G network. It also have a large battery life that should keep you going while you're out and about. The TP-Link M7350 is an excellent mobile hotspot, supporting both micro and nano SIM cards, which means it's almost certainly going to be compatible with a SIM card you already own. It has a small display for informing you about your connection, and it supports dual band Wifi on both 2.4 and 5GHz. It can be accessed by up to 10 devices at once, and performance is very good on 4G LTE. Its battery life is also excellent, giving you around 10 hours of 4G connectivity. The EE 4GEE WiFi Mini is one of the better looking mobile hotspot devices on this list, and its compact design means it can be easily carried around with you. The 1500mAh offers up to 50 hours on standby, and up to six hours when connected to the internet. It can support up to 10 devices at once, but it doesn't have an LCD screen, like the TP-Link M7350, which means it's not quite as user friendly. You also need to use the EE network, which isn't too much of a hardship due to EE's coverage and fast 4G speeds, and the network offers a range of data plans to go alongside the EE 4GEE WiFi Mini. However, if you want something more future-proof, check out the HTC 5G Hub at the top of this list of best mobile hotspots, which is also offered by EE. Netgear's AC810 Aircard is an excellent mobile hotspot that lets you quickly and easily share a fast 4G LTE internet connection with a wide range of devices. Supporting up to 15 devices, this is a very flexible bit of kit, and its 2930 mAh battery is capable of 11 hours operating time and 260 hours when in standby. An attractive touchscreen gives you all the information you need, and allows you to manage connections and change settings on the fly. It's put together with a robust build quality we've come to expect from Netgear, and in our view this is one of the best Mi-Fi portable hotspots money can buy right now. The Mobile Wi-Fi Pro from Huawei, otherwise known as the E5770, ticks a lot of boxes for power users. This 4G/LTE model (Cat-4, so only 150Mbps) has one of the biggest batteries we’ve seen on any Mi-Fi device at 5,200mAh. It can even charge another device thanks to a bundled cable that doubles as a stylish strap. Up to 10 devices can be connected with a quoted working time of up to 20 hours. If that wasn’t good enough, it’s also the only hotspot that we’re aware of that comes with a microSD card slot (sadly taking FAT-formatted cards only) and an Ethernet port. That makes it perfect for small businesses and even, dare we say, a perfect cord-cutting device if paired with the right SIM card. This is the antithesis of your traditional pocket-sized hotspot and we’re bending the rules to include it in this article. Behold the Netgear Nighthawk R7100LG, a router with a SIM card slot. Technically, it is not portable as the device requires a mains power supply, but there are potential workarounds if you really want to make this happen. The Nighthawk is a great solution should you want to offer internet access to a massive amount of users, and indeed storage access as well. It offers Cat 6/LTE (300Mbps), AC1900 Wi-Fi, two USB ports, a free app to manage the router (Genie), four Gigabit Ethernet ports plus open source support and a wealth of security features.

Best rugged laptops of 2019: we test drop-proof laptops for working outside Posted: 28 Jun 2019 01:50 PM PDT Welcome to our list of the best rugged laptops of 2019. On this page you'll find the best laptops for working in busy, dangerous and extreme conditions. Every rugged laptop on this list has been built to last, and can withstand drops, knocks, water, dust and extreme temperatures. So, while these aren't the slimmest or lightest laptops in the world, they offer robust build quality that allows you to get the job done without worrying about damaging your laptop. The best rugged laptops have been built with rigid and robust cases that can handle high pressure, extreme drops and even exposure to liquid without getting destroyed. To ensure that these laptops can survive, they are subject to hardcore testing, so you can use them in complete confidence that they’re built to task. So, whether you work on a busy work site, spend a lot of time in the most dangerous places on Earth, or even if you’re just kind of clumsy, we’ll help you find the perfect rugged laptop. We’ve even included our exclusive price comparison tool, so that you can spend less time shopping for the best rugged laptop, and more time saving.
If you’re looking for a laptop that can handle anything the planet can throw at it, you’ll want to get your hands on the Dell Latitude 14 Rugged Extreme – it’s all in the name. It is a bit old at this point, but that almost doesn’t matter. It’s still a well-designed rugged laptop that meets military standard requirements. It features a rigid magnesium alloy build, shock absorbent case, is IP65 certified against dust, sand and water – it can even handle extreme temperatures. Like the rest of Dell’s catalog, you can configure the Dell Latitude 14 Rugged Extreme however you feel like – or however you can afford.
Dell is a household name when it comes to the best laptops, but it still makes the best rugged laptops right now. For example, the Dell Latitude 14 Rugged is a tough laptop that combines a rigid outer shell with quick components that are powerful enough for the category – including a 6th-generation Intel Core processor and dedicated AMD Radeon graphics. Even the display is decent, rocking a matte finish that makes it comfortable to use outside – probably where it’ll be most used. It’s the less “extreme” version of our number one pick, but its still one of the best rugged laptops on the market right now.
If you want one of the best 2-in-1 laptops, but you don’t want something that feels like it’s going to snap in half the first chance it gets – the Panasonic Toughbook CF-33 is for you. This 2-in-1 has a flexibility that most rugged laptops just don’t. If you need something that’s easy to carry while you do stock takes and jot down notes, then tablet mode will work wonders. Then, if you need to type up some documents, you can attach the keyboard and comfortably type away. It may be expensive, but it’s one of the only 2-in-1 laptops that can actually take a beating. You might think the HP ProBook x360 11 G1 EE is a normal laptop at first glance. However, once you dive deeper, you’ll see there’s more than meets the eye. While it isn’t designed for big drops and dangerous environments, it's still one of the best rugged laptops for most everyday users – it’s built to withstand more knocks, drops and liquids than the everyday laptop. This is due to an industrial rubberised body, spill resistant keyboard and Corning Gorilla Glass 4 display. It’s not going to be as robust as some of the other rugged laptops on this list, but it’s easily portable and the screen can be flipped – making it a rugged 2-in-1 laptop. Similar to the HP ProBook x360 we mentioned earlier, the Lenovo ThinkPad 11e is more like a standard laptop that just so happens to be a bit rugged. Still, you can just tell that Lenovo has put effort into the construction of this device, as it includes more robust inputs, and can survive drops of up to 90cm. It also features military specifications, that make this a laptop that can survive the harshest conditions. What’s more, it’s affordable, while still offering enough processing power for everyday tasks.

Posted: 28 Jun 2019 01:44 PM PDT Welcome to our list of the best workstations of 2019. These are the very best, most powerful, workstation machines that can power your business. These days, the best workstations are around the same size as normal PCs, and offer high quality designs, without sacrificing pure power and performance. Some, such as the iMac Pro and the Surface Studio, are slimline all-in-one PCs that offer brilliant performance whilst not taking up loads of room in your office. The best workstations can handle any application you throw at it, and they are useful tools for designers, engineers, financial analysts and researchers running more demanding applications, like rendering complex graphics, financial analysis and computations and digital content creation We've rounded up 10 of what we consider to be the best workstations currently on the market - in no particular order - from the main vendors. From small form factor models to powerhouses, from all-in-ones to one for all, there's bound to be one for you if you're in the market. At the bottom of this page you'll also find our list of the best online shops for buying workstations - so purchasing the perfect workstation for your business has never been easier!
The Corsair One Pro i180 is currently our pick for the best workstation in 2019. Not only is it one of the most powerful desktop PCs we've ever used, but it's also one of the most nicely designed. The dimensions of the Corsair One Pro i180 are 200 x 172.5 x 380mm, which is incredibly compact considering the amount of power it offers. This is a workstation that can easily fit on – or under – a desk, and it looks simply amazing. It manages to keep cool, and most of the components can be upgraded as well, though it's not as straightforward as in a traditional PC tower. Power-wise it comes with an Intel Core i9-9920X, Nvidia RTX 2080 Ti, 32GB of DDR4 RAM, 920GB NVMe M.2 SSD and 2TB hard drive. That’s some seriously impressive and cutting-edge hardware. But this all comes at a cost. A very, very high cost. This excellent all-in-one workstation from Dell comes with an imposing 27-inch 4K Ultra HD touchscreen display, as well as a set of six speakers. That makes for the ideal workstation for photographers, video editors and music producers. The Dell XPS 27 performs admirably against industry-standard graphics-based benchmarks, no doubt thanks to the pacey 3.6GHz Intel Core i7-7700 processor under the casing. And this premium machine also gets premium peripheries in the form of a sleek and stylish wireless mouse and keyboard. An upgrade to the Mac Pro is imminent so you might want to hold on. But when it comes to the quintessential workstation, nothing comes near to this monolith. How Apple has been able to pack so much firepower into such a small volume almost defies the laws of physics. The current model, though, is well past its prime. It packs a 3-year old Intel Ivy-Bridge Xeon processor with up to 64GB DDR3 ECC RAM and 1TB storage (no RAID option though). Its two AMD FirePro D500 GPUs are likely to be the weakest link in the system, however, and even the top of the range model doesn't meet the minimum requirements to run the HTC Vive or Oculus Rift VR platform. It's also far more expensive than a comparable Windows-based workstation. Read the full review: Apple Mac Pro The Apple iMac Pro is the most powerful PC that Apple has ever made, so if you love the design of Apple's devices, while using its software, then the iMac Pro is an excellent workstation. Its all-in-one form factor gives you plenty of space on your desk, but it is very expensive, which turn some people off. Microsoft has produced a brilliant all-in-one workstation that rival's Apple's iMacs for power and desirability. If you're wedded to the Windows 10 ecosystem, then this is a great alternative to the iMac Pro. Versatile and forward-thinking, Microsoft’s all-in-one puts the iMac to shame by introducing an all-in-one that can not only replace your lingering desktop tower, but your Cintiq as well. The Mac mini 2018 has finally been refreshed with modern hardware, bring Apple’s tiniest Mac into the modern age. This thing is filled to the brim with 8th-generation desktop processors, a ton of RAM and some of the fastest SSDs we’ve seen – all while keeping the same beloved form factor. OK, while it's not as powerful as the other workstations on this list, it has a few tricks up its sleeve which makes this worth considering. First, you can add an external graphics card to the Mac mini for added graphical prowess. You can also chain several Mac minis together and offload tasks onto each machine, making it an expandable – and incredibly versatile – workstation. This is HP's entry level workstation and one which is very keenly priced with a very compact form factor (about 11L). It's hard to believe that the Z240 has an Intel Core i7-6700 CPU with 8GB of RAM and a 1TB hard disk drive. There's even an optical drive. The company's engineers have managed to deliver a system that weighs less than 6Kg and somehow has 20 (yes, 20) connectors and expansion slots (not all of them empty of course). It even has four DIMM slots to take full advantage of dual-channel technology. As for the rest of the HP workstation family, this one comes with the Remote Graphics Software as well as a three-year onsite warranty bundled. The only major compromise is the fact that it will only take low profile graphics cards. HP also offers the option to buy the workstation for as little as £16 per month excluding VAT. The small form factor market is attracting more manufacturers as they are vying to shed the bulky and wieldy image of the traditional workstation. Few, if any, however, can pride themselves on designing and manufacturing their products in the same area. Fujitsu can – take the J550. It can take a Xeon E3 CPU, a full-size professional graphics card, 64GB of RAM, offering up to 13.5TB storage and nearly 20 ports and expansion slots including quite a few legacy ones. Fujitsu is also the only company to offer a three-year warranty (either onsite or bring-in) across the EMEIA region, which spans across the whole of Europe, into Africa and stretches as far as India. Best powerline adapters in 2019: top picks for expanding your home network Posted: 28 Jun 2019 01:28 PM PDT In this guide we list the very best powerline adapter of 2019. These devices plug in to your home's power supply and turns it into a high-speed network. That means you no longer have to worry about an anemic Wi-Fi network struggling to reach one end of the house from the other. Using powerline adaptors, your network data is passed through the wiring within your home, so no distance – and no amount of walls – will affect the strength and speed of your connection. The best powerline adapters not only ensure that every device in your home or office has access to the internet, they can bring speeds that are not too far off standard wired networks – but without the need to trail Ethernet cables throughout the building. The best powerline adapters are also incredibly easy to install - just plug one into a power socket by your router or modem, and connect it via an Ethernet cable. Then, place a second adapter where you want to supply the network or internet to, and connect any devices to the second adaptor. You can add more adapters throughout the building, and their network speeds are much faster than Wi-Fi, and thick walls and floors won't affect them. You will need the power lines in your building to be in good working order, however. Some Wi-Fi adapters also include Wi-Fi antennae for bringing wireless networks into difficult to reach parts of a building.
Over the years powerline adapters have evolved, and the technology they use these days offer even greater speeds than ever before. So, read on to find out what our picks are for the best powerline adapters of 2019. The Devolo Magic 2 WiFi is the latest series of adapters from the German company that allow you to use your home's power lines to transmit network data. It uses a new standard – G.hn – which promises much faster speeds. In fact, Devolo claims that Magic 2 can reach theoretical speeds of up to 2,400Mbps, a big leap over its last-generation Devolo dLAN 1200+ (below), which was capable of up to 1,200Mbps. It is expensive, but you get the best powerline speeds we've seen so far. It's also worth noting that because of the new technology, the Devolo Magic 2 WiFi isn't backwards compatible, so it won't work with any of the other adapters in this list. The Devolo dLAN 1200+ WiFi ac is one of the fastest powerline adapters on the market, able to reach speeds of 1.2 gigabits a second - though you should note that you won't often get those kinds of speeds, as there are numerous factors that can affect powerline speeds. Still, this is a very fast powerline adaptor, and the fact it can also broadcast dual-band wireless ac networks makes this a very versatile powerline adaptor. The adaptor also has a pass through power port, which means you won't lose a power socket - just plug other devices into the adaptor itself. The TP-Link AV2000 takes the award for fastest power line adaptor, with a maximum speed of 2000Mbps - though of course actual speeds will be lower. Still, it offers fantastic speeds, along with built-in dual band wireless ac networks and a pass through socket. In the starter kit you'll get two adapters, one has a single Ethernet port, which you should use to connect to your modem or router, and the second one has two Ethernet ports for connecting wired devices. Asus may not be the first company that comes to mind when you think about networking devices, but it makes some very good products - such as the Asus 1200Mbps AV2 1200 Wi-Fi Powerline Adapter. As the name suggests this is a very fast powerline adaptor that is also able to broadcast a Wi-Fi network as well. Unlike other powerline adapters with Wi-Fi, the Asus 1200Mbps AV2 1200 Wi-Fi Powerline Adapter has external antennae, which allow you to angle them for increased coverage - though it does mean the units themselves look a little bit ugly compared to some of its competitors. If you're looking for a nice, cheap but reliable powerline adaptor, than the TP-LINK AV600 is a great choice. It's a lot less money than many of the adapters on this list, but it still manages to offer plenty of features. For example, it can broadcast Wi-Fi, and with a Wi-Fi clone button, you can easily extend your existing wireless network. it also features two Ethernet ports, and the second adaptor in the set includes a pass through socket so you don't lose out on a power socket when using the adaptor. While the 600Mbps top speed isn't as high as others on this list, it's still enough to transfer big files and stream media around your home. This is an excellent entry-level power adaptor that does a very good job at transmitting your network traffic over your powerlines. It doesn't boast the highest speeds, nor does it have Wi-Fi or a passthrough socket, but it does the job well considering the price, and its low cost means it's easy to add adapters to your network in the future.

Amazon Prime Day deals 2019: everything you need to know about the 48-hour sale Posted: 28 Jun 2019 01:21 PM PDT The official Amazon Prime Day deals event kicks off on July 15 and it's going to last 48 hours, so you'll be able to save the entire day through the end of July 16. That's right, 2019 is going to be the biggest one yet. In fact, we're already seeing some early Amazon Prime Day deals, starting with a 4K TV that costs just $179.99 – it has HDR, the slick Fire TV interface and Alexa built-in. We saw it last week at an Amazon event in New York City. Also on sale starting today are on-demand movie rentals, like Us and Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, costing just $2.99 for Prime Members. Captain Marvel is $3.99, which is still an excellent savings when it normally costs $5.99 in HD. Those aren't the sort of deals that really get us excited though and we'll tell you why further down this page as we look into what amazing Prime Day deals Amazon ran last year along with the ones we expect to see this time given we've been keeping our eyes on prices all year. And if you just can't wait, we've found a selection of deals we think are super hot right now. When is Amazon Prime Day 2019?We now know that Amazon Prime Day will kick off on 00:01 Monday, July 15 and last until 23:59 of Tuesday, July 16. Amazon Prime Day deals you can buy nowEven though the Amazon Prime Day 2019 arrived yet, that doesn't mean you can't find stellar deals now from the tech giant. We've scoured Amazon's site to find the best discounts that you can take advantage of today. We'll be updating this page regularly, so check back to shop the best deals up until the big shopping day. What were last year's best-selling Prime Day dealsPrime members around the world purchased more than 100 million products during the last Prime Day event. The top-selling items from last year's Prime Day included a mixture of home goods, electronics, and Amazon devices. In fact, it was the biggest event ever for Amazon devices with the Fire TV Stick and Echo Dot leading the pack of best-selling items worldwide. The top selling products consisted of the 6-Qt Instant Pot, Fire TV stick, Echo Dot, 23andMe DNA Test, and the LifeStraw personal water filter. The Prime deals you may have missed last timeAs ever, some of the best deals on Prime Day were on Amazon’s own devices. Smart speakers are a big hit every year with the Amazon Echo leading the pack with the below price drops. • Echo Show dropped from $229.99 to $129.99 There were good deals on TVs too. In the US, the excellent TCL TVs were massively discounted and better known brands such as Hisense were chopped too: for example Hisense’s 43-inch 4K TV dropped from $349.99 to $239.99. The best phone deal we spotted in the US was a big drop on the Huawei Mate 10 Pro, which went from $799 to a much more affordable $549. A brief history of PrimePrime Day first launched four years ago and has grown into the biggest shopping day of the year with last year's even surpassing Cyber Monday and Black Friday with 89 million visitors logging on to the site with 100 million products purchased during the sale event. Globally it was the biggest day of sales in Amazon’s history, and Amazon Prime Day 2019 is going to be even bigger. It didn't just increase in terms of territories or numbers, but the sale itself lasted longer too. Where 2017's Prime Day ran for only one day (well, 30 hours), 2018 ran for a day and a half (36 hours). And now we're looking at 48, so Prime members will have even more time to snag the hottest deals of the year. How can I sign up for Amazon Prime? To participate in the big shopping event, you must be an Amazon Prime Member. Your membership will not only let you partake in Prime Day, but you'll also have access to Amazon Prime movies, books, music, photos, and more. You can sign up here for a 30-day trial and cancel at any time. All you need is an Amazon account with a valid credit card tied to the account. Once you sign up for your free trial, you'll have access to all the Prime benefits, receive free two-day shipping and partake in the biggest shopping event of the year. What other retailers participate in Prime Day?Every year more and more retailers are trying to compete with the tech giant by participating in their own version of Prime Day. You'll find discounts on clothing, tech, home goods and more from a variety of online and local retailers. Last year Walmart joined in on Prime Day by offering free two-day shipping without membership fees and free same-day pickup on qualifying items. They also discounted a wide array of products that included TVs, Google Home devices, kitchen appliances, laptops and much more. Other big retailers like Target, Best Buy, Macy's and eBay also promoted their own one-day sale with discounts on best-selling items throughout their site. Amazon Prime 1-day deliveryAmazon just recently announced plans to offer free one-day shipping for Prime members on most orders. Amazon's CFO Brian Olsavky revealed the ambitious project during Amazon's first-quarter earnings call. To achieve this, the tech giant says they plan to invest $800 million in the second quarter of 2019 and continue its expansion of their fulfillment and logistics network. Amazon currently offers free 2-day shipping for all Prime members and offers free one-day and same-day delivery on certain items in eligible zip codes. Amazon's future plans include increasing the locations and available items so free one-day delivery replaces the standard two-day Prime delivery window. While we don't think the new one-day delivery will be rolled out in time for Prime Day, we do believe there will be more items available for one-day and same-day delivery in eligible zip codes for the big shopping day. Prime Day and Whole FoodsLast year Prime Day extended its sale from devices and electronics to discounts on groceries at the Whole Foods Market chain which the company also own. Savings included price cuts on popular food items and discounts for first time users of the grocery delivery service Prime Now. Amazon also offered $10 back in Amazon credits to use on Prime Day for members that spent $10 at Whole Foods. Amazon credit card users also received double the rewards when they used their card at Whole Foods during the week leading up to the big sale. We expect this year to feature more discounts on groceries in-store as well as promotions with the Amazon Rewards Card and Prime Now. How much money did Amazon make on Prime Day?Amazon was predicted to gross $3.4 billion on Prime Day last year, although we don’t know if that prediction is accurate as Amazon doesn’t release such information. However, it did announce that third party sellers shifted a billion dollars of product in just one day. As for its own sales, Amazon was content to say that “sales this Prime Day surpassed Cyber Monday, Black Friday and the previous Prime Day, when comparing 36-hour periods, making this once again the biggest shopping event in Amazon history.” That’s a little sneaky, mind you: as the 2017 sale only ran for 24 hours, not 36. Why did Amazon crash on Prime Day? Did the crash cost it money?Amazon struggled to cope with traffic on Prime Day, an issue that affected not just the Amazon site but services such as Prime Video and Twitch. Customers found their shopping carts would suddenly empty, or links simply wouldn’t work, or they couldn’t access the site at all. The issues were largely confined to the US website and customers, although problems with Prime Video lasted well into the evening in the UK. Some sites got their calculators out and concluded that the worst outage, which lasted for 63 minutes, cost Jeff Bezos' company just under $100 million in lost sales. Amazon disagrees, saying that the effect on sales was “minimal”. Or maybe $100 million just isn't that much to the retail giant nowadays. CNBC has seen internal documents that describe what happened. First, it didn’t secure enough servers to cope with the demand; secondly, that shortage caused a “cascading series of failures” that knocked out key services; and thirdly, Amazon temporarily killed all international traffic to reduce the load. All of those things happened within the first 15 minutes of Prime Day. The outage wasn’t the only issue Amazon faced during the sale though... Why were workers striking and supporters urging Amazon boycotts on Prime Day?Prime Day wasn’t the first time Amazon has been accused of terrible working practices, but it was a great day to get the issue into the papers. Workers in Spain and Germany went on strike over working hours and conditions while activists urged people to send Amazon a message by boycotting the sale altogether over its treatment of workers and its tax arrangements. It was also marked by a surge in health and safety complaints from UK workers. As you’d expect, Amazon denies the allegations, with a spokesperson telling us: "These allegations and the data are just not accurate — safety incidents in our fulfillment centers did not increase around Prime Day, they actually decreased from the previous week. We’re proud of our team and our workplace, and invite anyone to come see for themselves – we offer public tours of our buildings and you can learn more at amazonfctours.com." Amazon also told Wired that the Organise campaign behind the publicity was indulging in fake news. “To our knowledge, Organise doesn’t verify that respondents actually work for the company they claim to work for.” What could Amazon have done better on Prime Day?It should have anticipated and been able to cope with the load not just on its ecommerce site but on its cloud services too: we weren’t the only ones irritated because we couldn’t get our Preacher fix on Amazon Prime Video. It’s all the more embarrassing when you remember that Amazon provides the cloud infrastructure for many high-profile sites and services: Prime Day wasn’t a great ad for that side of its business. Our main criticisms aren’t technological, though. Navigating the deals was hopeless and many of the deals were laughable, especially in gaming: we frequently found much better console bundles on AO.com’s eBay page than we did on Amazon. Here’s a great example. On Prime Day, one of the flagship deals we identified was $50 off a set of Bose QuietComfort 25 headphones. That brought the price down from $299 to $249. Just three weeks later, Amazon US was listing the same headphones for $169. Will Amazon Prime Day 2019 do things differently?Yes. CNBC reports that Jeff Wilke, Amazon’s CEO of worldwide retail, has already demanded improvements to prevent a repeat the previous Prime Day’s capacity problems: “tech teams are already working to improve our architecture”. We’d like to think that Amazon will also improve the navigation and discoverability of its deals, although we aren’t holding our collective breath: both factors’ general rubbishness didn’t stop it breaking all records. But that's why we're here to show you the best Prime Day deals! What does all this mean for Black Friday and Cyber Monday? It’s clear that Amazon is prioritising Prime Day over Super Black Friday Deals Month or whatever convoluted name it’s going to give its Black Friday sales period in 2019: according to Digitalcommerce360.com, 67% of this year's Prime Day deals were lower than comparable deals on the preceding Black Friday. That’s not to say Amazon won’t take part in Black Friday and Cyber Monday. It will, and it’ll offer the same kind of discounting that we’ve seen in recent years. But Prime Day is more important to the firm, and we’d expect its discounts to be deeper, especially on its own devices. Prime Day: why does it matter more to Amazon? There are some crucial differences between Prime Day and Black Friday. The first is that the former is Amazon’s own day. It’s right there in the name, which of course refers to Amazon’s Prime membership programme and associated services. Amazon doesn’t own Black Friday, and that means ultimately it’s just another retailer shouting for attention – a massive retailer with a really loud voice, of course, but Black Friday is a sales event for the entire retail sector. It’s much harder for rivals to muscle in on something that Amazon has effectively created from thin air. The second and more important difference is that Black Friday doesn’t create new spending. It just moves it slightly. As we’ve discovered in recent years, the money people spend over the Black Friday period is money they were probably going to spend anyway: all Black Friday really does is concentrates pre-Christmas shopping in the last week of November. Prime Day spending is different in two ways. First of all, people aren’t spending the money they’d already planned to spend on Christmas presents. And secondly, they’re buying mainly for themselves, not for others. If you go back to the list of bestsellers there’s an awful lot of impulse buying in there: Instant Pots and Hue Lightstrips, frying pans and dishwasher tablets. This is new spending, not merely moving pre-planned spending. There’s another key benefit for Amazon. Its best-sellers on Prime Day weren’t just Amazon devices; they were Amazon devices that connect to Amazon services. Fire TVs, Kindle Fires, Echo devices, Alexa remotes. Each one of them connecting to Amazon Prime, and each one of them requiring an Amazon membership to buy in the first place. So when Black Friday rolls around, Amazon will have a whole bunch of members for whom shopping there is the default option, and who might want to enhance their Amazon-powered smart homes with more of the company's branded Black Friday deals. Hundreds of gigabytes of emails from Fortune 100 firms exposed online Posted: 28 Jun 2019 01:18 PM PDT Leaving sensitive information publicly accessible on the web is a recipe for disaster and according to new report from cybersecurity firm UpGuard, that is exactly what the data management company Attunity did for Ford, Toronto-Dominion Bank and its other Fortune 100 clients. Researchers at UpGuard discovered more than a terabyte of data left unsecured by the company last month on AWS servers which included its own passwords and network information as well as emails and designs from several of its high-profile customers. As a data custodian, Attunity helps integrate information its clients have stored in various places so that it can be easily analyzed. Despite its status as an “Advanced Technology Partner' of Amazon's cloud division, the company failed to configure its cloud storage correctly and left all of the data it stored visible in plain text similar to how the digital platform Cultura Colectiva left Facebook user data unsecured.
Attunity's data buckets contained files about Ford's internal project plans as well as TD Bank invoices, agreements between it and the the company as well as files related to the type of technology solution Attunity was configuring for the bank. Unsecured serversWhile client files were exposed as a result of the incident, a large collection of Attunity's own files pertaining to administrative and employee passwords to a number of systems, extensive employee email backups, a roadmap to the company's virtual network and even personal information about its own employees. According to UpGuard, the widespread presence of login credentials could have led to a sizable data leak had it not informed the company about its discovery. Luckily though, the firm found no evidence that any bad actors had taken advantage of the information while it was accessible online. After UpGuard informed Attunity about the incident, the company removed public access to the data buckets. However, several weeks passed before it asked the security firm more detailed questions about the data exposure. In a blog post detailing its findings, UpGuard stressed that misconfigurations of cloud storage can lead to catastrophic damage to a company, saying: “Attunity’s business is to replicate and migrate data into data lakes for centralized analytics. The risks to Attunity posed by exposed credentials, information, and communications, then are risks to the security of the data they process. While many of the files are years old, the bucket was still in use at the time detected and reported by UpGuard, with the most recent files having been modified within days of discovery. “The chain of events leading to the exposure of that data provides a useful lesson in the ecology of a data leak scenario. Users’ workstations may be secured against attackers breaking in, but other IT processes can copy and expose the same data valued by attackers. When such backups are exposed, they can contain a variety of data from system credentials to personally identifiable information. Data is not safe if misconfigurations and process errors expose that data to the public internet.”

Best portable laptop battery chargers and power banks in 2019 Posted: 28 Jun 2019 01:17 PM PDT On this page you'll find the best portable laptop battery chargers and power banks – and each one we feature here will allow you to quickly and easily charge your laptop while on the go. There's little worse than being away from a plug socket and finding that your laptop is rapidly running out of battery. To ensure you can keep on using the laptop without interruption, buy one of the best portable laptop battery chargers and power banks we've featured here. They come with a range of adaptors to fit most brands of laptop, and they can hold enough charge to keep your laptop running for a few more valuable hours until you get to a plug socket. You'll want to buy a portable laptop charger that stores enough power to top up – or even recharge – your laptop’s battery when its running low. The best laptop battery charger should mean you’ll never have to frantically search for a power socket when working while traveling. It means you don't have to worry if that fancy ultra-thin laptop has a garbage battery life – as long as you have a portable battery charger with you, you can work on your laptop safe in the knowledge that you won't be stranded when your laptop's battery becomes depleted. With these convenient devices, you can make sure you can always get your work done – no matter where you are.
With the Mophie Powerstation AC, high power output is the name of the game. This portable laptop battery charger is able to power a 15-inch MacBook Pro. Meanwhile, the USB-C port is rated at 30W with a USB-PD label, meaning its one of the few batteries capable of fast charging an iPhone X or iPhone 8. If you have a newer laptop, and find yourself running out of juice throughout the day, the Omni 20 USB-C might be for you. Not only does it have an insanely high capacity, but it also allows charging of multiple USB-C devices simultaneously. So, if you’re working and you need to charge your Nintendo Switch and a mobile device, you go for it. Plus, the Omni 20 also serves as a USB hub, clearing out some extra storage space in your bag.
The PowerAdd Pilot Pro2 doesn’t just come with 10 connectors that cover most of the laptops on the market today, but it’s backed by a two-year warranty. That means you can use the 23MAh/85Wh capacity without worry. The Pilot Pro2 is also light enough to carry around wherever you go, coming in under 560g. The only thing that holds it back is that it doesn’t have any USB-C connectors, so if you have a modern Ultrabook or MacBook, you may want to go elsewhere, otherwise you’ll have to carry a separate power supply to keep the battery charger backed up. As technology marches forward, new laptops need less power to function. This is especially ture for high-end laptops like the MacBook Pro, HP Elite x2, Huawei Matebook Pro X or the Dell XPS 13. For all of these devices, and more, USB-C is king – the RAVPower uses this revolutionary connector to deliver up to 30W of power, which should be plenty for the best Ultrabooks. You can recharge it using a 30W wall charger that can also be used to power compatible laptops – very handy, indeed. The MaxOak MacBook Charger is a perfect example of a laptop battery charger that goes the extra mile to make sure that it matches the expectations of its audience. This portable laptop charger has all the hallmarks of an Apple device, without the logo – but that’s what those Apple stickers are for – with a matching brushed aluminum finish. It’s the second most capacious portable laptop battery charger on this list, but its huge amount of juice comes with a catch – it carries so much power that at least one airline has outright banned it, so bear that in mind if you plan to use this charger while traveling. It’s also pretty heavy at almost 1kg and will cater to most MacBooks, but nothing else. The Qi Infinity Upgraded Powerbank is the only product here that targets Microsoft’s popular Surface lineup by offering the appropriate DC output voltage. It comes with a generous five ports, four of which will let you charge other 5V devices (which includes anything from other power banks to tablets and smartphones). But, what’s really interesting here is the addition of fast charging through Qualcomm’s Qi tech. You’ll be able to charge the new MacBook as well, but no traditional laptops that rely on a 19V DC output. Just keep in mind that with a capacity of 35Ah, it might not be allowed on some airlines.
The K2 is the world’s second highest mountain and it is fitting – to some extent – that MaxOak named this battery after that lofty peak. After all, at 50Ah, this is the biggest battery on our list and one that is also the heaviest of the lot. It supports laptops up to 60W (3A, 20V) as well as fast-charging. Note that it takes up to eight hours to charge the battery and that can only be achieved via a proprietary charger. Sadly, it doesn’t carry a USB Type-C connector – which makes it useless for newer laptops – and you won’t be able to lug it around on the plane (as with the previous two peripherals, the massive capacity here may mean it’s banned on some flights). Sandberg's Powerbank is neither the cheapest nor the most powerful around. However, it does come with a couple of features that make it a rather enticing option. It outputs a number of voltages (12V, 16V, 19V and 20V), automatically choosing the right one depending on the device which is connected. This portable laptop battery charger also features two USB ports, and they’re hardwired to output 5V. You’re also supplied with 12 different charge tips, but if you have an Ultrabook that needs a USB Type-C port for charging, you’ll be out of luck. It also features a premium brushed aluminum finish, with bright blue LED status lights that clearly indicate the amount of juice left, or how close the battery is to full charge.
If you are looking for a versatile laptop charger, then do consider this RavPower offering. It is by far the most expensive model on our list, but this Reddot award winner carries a feature that no one has replicated till now. It has an AC output that can deliver up to 100W of power – yes, this could even power a TV if needed. Note that you will probably need an adaptor (there’s one bundled) because the power bank can only accommodate two-prong plugs. You will be able to take it on a commercial flight, but you will not be able to recharge it via USB. Dell sells the Power Companion with various battery capacities. It is more compact than the RAVPower models, and the unit looks like a Dell power brick that charges your laptop. When you're at your desk, you can daisy-chain to recharge the Power Companion and your Dell laptop by connecting your Dell charging brick to the Power Companion, and then connecting it to your notebook. Dell's Power Companion is a far sleeker battery pack if your office relies on Dell Inspiron, Latitude, XPS or Venue laptops and tablets, with the added benefit that it has extra USB ports should you need them. Best UPS of 2019: top Uninterruptible Power Supplies money can buy Posted: 28 Jun 2019 01:01 PM PDT The best UPS (uninterruptible power supply) is an essential purchase for any business that relies on PCs, servers and other electronics being on 24 hours a day, seven days a week. For many businesses, if there's a power cut – even a very brief one – the loss of power can be catastrophic. Servers and files could become unreachable – or even worse, corrupted – by a sudden shutdown. The best UPS can prevent disaster striking when the power is cut, by seamlessly switching to battery power to continue to power your devices until either the main power is restored, or you’re able to safely shut down your device. However, there are certain important things you should consider when looking to buy the best UPS for your business. For a start, you’ll want something that can provide enough power for your devices to keep running until the power is back on. If that's not possible, they should at least offer enough power for you to reach them to safely initiate the correct shutdown procedure to prevent data loss. The UPS devices we include in this guide cover a wide range of use cases, from small UPS devices for homes that can keep a router and PC running, to large and powerful UPS devices for enterprise uses. Because of this, we have listed these best UPS devices in no particular order. The CyberPower CP1500EPFCLCD is an excellent UPS for home and small business use. It comes with a decent amount of ports, as well as USB, for plugging in your devices. RJ11/RJ45 ports keep your phone, fax and modem lines protected from power surges, and it comes with a number of energy-saving features to prevent it from wasting energy when in use. It also comes with a clear LCD display that gives you information about the UPS. If you're after a cheaper, and more simple, UPS device, then the APC Back-UPS ES - BE700G is a great choice. We wouldn't recommend it for large businesses with lots of mission-critical computers and servers, but it offers plenty of power for homes and small businesses to keep their devices going when the power fails. If you're looking for something more feature-rich, however, you may want to consider a different UPS. This is another great UPS from APC, and with the BE600M1, the company has created a UPS device that is ideal for home use. That's thanks to its small and unobtrusive design, and if offers enough power for smaller devices, such as home NAS drives, routers and games consoles. With careful management, you can keep the power flowing to a router or monitor for enough time to overcome most power cuts. For office use, with lots of power-sapping devices that need to be powered at once, then you'll want to look elsewhere on this best UPS list, but for home users on a budget, this is a great choice. If you have a large office with several devices, then the Eaton Eaton 9SX 5000i RT3U is an excellent device. Not only does this rack-mounted UPS keep your important devices running when there's an issue with your power, but it also provides some excellent power efficiency features that can cut energy usage (and associated bills) with up to 95% efficiency in online double conversion mode and 98% in high-efficiency mode. You can buy optional extended battery modules for increased run time, and the LCD user interface makes it easy to manage. Definitely a UPS to consider if you have the budget. If you have a busy office with a number of essential devices that will need an uninterrupted power supply, then the Vertiv Liebert PSI 1500VA is definitely worth considering. Its three batteries will keep power-hungry devices running when the power goes down, and it can be installed into a server rack, making it convenient as well. It comes in a number of configurations, so you can choose the one that best suits your needs, but if you're looking for a UPS for home use, then the APC BE600M1 Back-UPS 600VA above is a better choice.

A headset is no use if you can't hear what your caller is saying, so we've made sure every entry in this best Bluetooth headset list offers both high-end audio quality from your callers, while also featuring excellent recording quality as well. The best Bluetooth headsets will also offer noise cancellation, which is important as it means no matter how loud the environment you're in, the people you're talking to should be able to hear your voice without any issues. But although a good Bluetooth headset can make your constant calling life infinitely easier, once you go out searching for a great headset you’ll find that choosing the best Bluetooth headsets among the myriad knockoffs and imitations can be a pain. And even if there are some devices that look similar, the actual features and functionality can vary wildly. But don’t worry, below you'll find the very best Bluetooth headsets currently available, and we've used our price comparison tool to help you find the top deals as well. The Plantronics Voyager 5200 is one of the very best Bluetooth headsets around, from a brand name that is well respected when it comes to headsets. It's designed with comfort in mind, so you can wear it for extended periods without it bothering you and it sits securely in place too, so it won't fall off. It's also completely hands free, as caller ID will announce the name of whoever is calling you and you can simply say "answer" to take the call. Its noise-cancelling is effective even in busy environments and multiple microphones ensure strong voice quality, for a great all-round Bluetooth headset. Its also coated in sweat proof material which gives it a robustness that other Bluetooth headsets lack. The Sony MBH20 headset used to sit at this point in our list. It was a simple, easy-to-use headset with good battery life, but it's since been replaced by the MBH22. Although they both have a similar, simple design, this latest model is packing some newer features. There are the same minimal buttons, but now there's a USB Type-C connector instead of an older microUSB port. It's still a good, comfortable fit although there is only one earpiece, which means that might not be the case for everyone. You can connect two phones at the same time to switch between calls if you're that in demand, as well as smart access to Google Assistant and Siri. Plantronics simply makes phenomenal Bluetooth headsets, which is why it should come as no surprise that this isn’t the first Plantronics headset to make it on the list of the best Bluetooth headsets, and it certainly won’t be the last. The Plantronics Explorer 500 is built to be compact and discreet, but there is a huge amount of tech built into this tiny package, including three microphones and a boom arm for stellar voice quality. Its small size does mean its battery life isn't exactly on the same level as some competitors, but at seven hours of talk time it's still very passable. The Jabra Stealth is one of the nicest designed Bluetooth headsets in our roundup, and not only does it look good, it also feels comfortable to wear. It's not quite as small and unnoticeable as its name suggests, but with such a nice design, you won't really mind that much. Perhaps most importantly, sound quality on this headset is excellent, and it does a good job of limiting background noise picked up by its mic as well. This is definitely a Bluetooth headset worth investing in if you rely on voice-free calls. The Sennheiser Presence UC is a brilliant Bluetooth headset if you work in a fast-paced environment where you need to multitask, as it has a multi-connectivity feature that connects to both your phone and computer, so you can quickly switch between the two. It has very good sound and recording quality, and talk time is also very impressive. It's not the most comfortable headset, however, so if you need something that you're going to wear all day, then something like the Jabra Motion will be better suited to your needs. If you work outside in noisy environments, and need a robust Bluetooth headset that can eliminate background sounds, then the Jabra Steel is the best Bluetooth headset for you. Resistant to dust, dirt and water, it can also survive high drops, making it an excellent headset for outdoor use - and it comes with a 5 year warranty as well. It also features aggressive noise cancellation which will make your voice calls nice and clear, even if you work somewhere where there is a lot of background noise. Sadly, though, there's no physical volume control buttons on the actual headset, which makes it a bit annoying if you need to adjust loudness. The Plantronics M70 is the successor to the popular M55, and like its forbear, it is a budget headset, but you get a lot for your money. While it doesn't have a premium build it's perfectly comfortable to wear, it supports voice commands for truly hands-free use and the sound quality is good, especially when aided by the built in noise-cancelling tech. The M70 also has a DeepSleep mode which activates when it's separated from a paired smartphone for 90 minutes and leaves it with up to five months of battery life, but simply bring your phone within range and it will quickly wake up again.
With a talk time of over eight hours the Jabra Wave is a Bluetooth headset which just keeps going and going, making it a great choice if you're going to be away from a charger for an extended period. Its fairly large size means it's not the most discreet of headsets, but it's a worthwhile trade-off for all that battery life. It also features strong audio quality and is good at suppressing noise, especially wind. Add to that easy pairing and the ability to connect it to two devices at once and the Jabra Wave is a good option.

Microsoft leads enterprise SaaS market revenue race Posted: 28 Jun 2019 12:09 PM PDT The enterprise SaaS market continues to grow at an extraordinary pace and according to a new report from Synergy Research, enterprise SaaS revenue managed to pass the $100bn run rate this quarter. Microsoft and Salesforce led the charge at first and second place respectively followed by Adobe, SAP and Oracle in the remaining top five spots. In its earnings release for Q2, Microsoft reported $10.1bn in Productivity and Business Processes revenue with an increase of 13 percent when compared to last quarter. This division includes Office 365, the Dynamics line and LinkedIn and its increased revenue helped the software giant claim the top spot with 17 percent of worldwide market share.
Salesforce took second place with 12 percent and in its most recent earnings statement, it announced $3.74bn in revenue. The company's Service Cloud accounted for $1.02bn in revenue by itself and this was the first time its CRM platform crossed the billion-dollar mark. Adobe came in third place with 10 percent market share as it reported $2.74bn in revenue in its latest report. The company's Digital Media division, which includes Creative Cloud and Document Cloud, made up most of it revenue with $1.8bn. SaaS marketDespite the fact that it took the SaaS market 20 years to reach the $100bn mark, it is still a significant milestone which represents how the enterprise software market has shifted from an on-premises to cloud model in recent years. According to Synergy Research, the enterprise SaaS market still has a ways to go as SaaS revenue still accounts for only 20 percent of the overall enterprise software market. Chief analyst at Synergy Research Group, John Dinsdale provided further insight on the findings of the report as well as his predictions for the future of enterprise SaaS, saying: “The SaaS vendor landscape essentially breaks out into three camps – traditional enterprise software vendors, relatively new born-in-the-cloud players and large IT vendors that are looking to expand more into software markets. In the first camp you have companies like Microsoft, SAP, Oracle and IBM that have a huge base of on-premise software customers that they can convert to a SaaS-based consumption model. Born-in-the-cloud vendors include Workday, Zendesk, ServiceNow, Atlassian and Splunk, who tend to have much higher growth rates. Meanwhile Google and Cisco are making an impact in the SaaS market, via Google’s G Suite and Cisco’s collaboration apps and multiple software vendor acquisitions. There will be consolidation, with the impending Salesforce acquisition of Tableau Software being a prime example, but there will remain many opportunities for new market entrants to make an impact.”

Best mind map software of 2019 Posted: 28 Jun 2019 11:46 AM PDT Brainstorming can be an exclude way to develop new ideas, workflows, and opportunities for your business. However, organizing a disparate range of suggestions into working solutions and actionable insights can be something of a challenge. This is where mind map software comes into play, providing a way in which to chart all this. While some are available just for individual use for organizing projects, others other collaborative features for business users. Ultimately, mind-mapping software isn't simply about putting ideas into a list, but instead about connecting processes with suggestions, and developing how this could enhance efficiency, productivity, or customer service. This means that whichever mind mapping software you use, it's likely to take a diagrammatic form in which clear workflows and outcomes can be highlighted, modified, or replaced as required, allowing a summary to remain which can then be written up into a project management report or similar presentation. Here then are the best in mind map software platforms.
Scapple enjoys the distinction of being developed by writers for writers. The group 'Literature and Latte' was formed in 2006 with the sole purpose of offering writers a simple way to develop their skills. The result has been one of the best-known mind map tools on the market today. On first launch, Scapple invites users to double click anywhere on the blank canvas to create a note. You can repeat this process as many times as you wish to offload your initial 'brain dump'. Scapple also supports importing text files, PDF's and even images. You can then work out how to link various ideas together. Scapple has been particularly praised for being easy to master compared to other mind map software due its small number of mind map tools. This does mean however that more advanced features such as embedding audio & video aren't supported. Although the program itself is lightweight, Scapple won't burden your purse too heavily. There's a 30-day free trial, which only counts down those days on which you actually use the software. After this a standard license costs $14.99 (£17) per platform. Educational licenses are $12 (£13.60) each. Mindomo was originally released in March 2014. The stated aim of its developers is to create, "useful, easy to use and beautiful software". While beauty is subjective, most users will be delighted to find that the free version of the software supports creation of up to 3 mind maps, which is include all basic features. 'Premium' users enjoy a range of extra features denied to the free tier such as syncing projects such as iOS/Android, audio and video emdedding and backing up to cloud-based services like Dropbox. Mindomo also allows paid subscribers to export mind maps in a variety of formats including images (PNG), Adobe PDF (PDF), plain text (TXT) and Microsoft Powerpoint (PPTX). The program can also import data from a number of file formats. If you need to collaborate on a project, 'Professional' subscriptions support 1 user and up to 5 guests. All Mindomo paid subscriptions support password protection of mind maps to make sure only you and your team can see them. Premium subscriptions are $42 per user for 6 months, which include 1GB storage quota. Professional subscriptions cost $105 and offer a generous 5GB quota. While these advanced features are acknowledged by the online community, Mindomo has come under criticism for its bare bones interface which offers little guidance to new users. Bubbl.us is a cloud-based mind map service and can be accessed from virtually any internet compatible device. Its existence is thanks to a flash of inspiration by project founder 'Levon'. While at college, he was leafing through a copy of David Allen's Getting Things Done and discovered a chapter on brainstorming. Levon started doing this on pen and paper but later teamed up with fellow programmer 'Kirill' to begin development of Bubbl.us. The beauty of Bubbl.us lies in its simplicity: the service is designed for mind mapping only, doing away with any redundant features. As it's cloud-based there's also no software to download. Users can get started right away and the project website claims that these include millions of musicians, artists, writers, teachers and people with dyslexia. Like Mindomo, Bubbl.us offers a free tier which supports up to 3 mind maps with basic features. The Premium tier costs $4.91 per month per user, if paid annually, and allows for real-time collaboration as well as revision history. There's also a 30-day free trial to try out more advanced features. Online reviews of Bubbl.us praise the fact that it's online and cross-platform, making very popular with students and teachers. Some reviewers have complained about lag problems when using Bubbl.us from mobile devices as well as difficulties with moving several bubbles at once. MindManager stands on the shoulders of giants having been acquired by software giant Corel (of CorelDRAW fame) in 2015. It is designed primarily for business users and has been adopted by big names like Proctor and Gamble. As an enterprise-focused program MindManager is capable of integrating with Microsoft Office and indeed the overall interface will be very familiar to Word and PowerPoint users, right down to the built-in text editor and spreadsheet program. Users are introduced to this gradually, as on first launch MindManager only displays a virtual whiteboard from where you can easily add ideas, then drag them into place. Maps are accessible via an easy to use dashboard. The general look and feel is extremely professional, meaning the finished map would be suitable for all purposes, from notes for a book to a presentation at a board meeting. This professional pedigree doesn't come cheap. The Windows version of MindManager costs a heavy $327 per license, though the Mac version is around half the price. The Mac version which has fewer features is only $209. Whichever version you choose there's a 30-day free trial to check if you and/or your team are comfortable with the interface. This is especially important if any users are unfamiliar with Microsoft Office. XMind is the flagship product of Hing Kong based X Mind Ltd. It was originally released in November 2008 and the project website now claims over 1 million users. Like MindManager, XMind seems to be more focused on enterprise level solutions. The 'Idea Factory' is a great place to start listing items and there's even a useful built-in countdown timer to help regulate your mind mapping sessions. XMind 8 Pro costs $129 per perpetual license, or alternatively pay monthly with plans starting from $1.24 for mobile only, and $4.58 for desktop as well. The dedicated brainstorming module allows you to group items and concepts, as well as create links between them. Business users can also make use of the presentation mode which can display maps as slides, as well as list tasks in chart form e.g. in 'tree format'. X Mind has been singled out for praise online for its clear focus on business users, as well as its minimalist interface which allows for easy mind map creation through a series of templates. Other respectable features include 'XMind cloud' which can sync your mind maps across devices and 'day and night' mode which dims the screen to protect your eyes. Other mind map software to considerWe've only featured five of the best mind mapping software solutions above, but there are plenty more to consider. Here we'll list a number of others worth considering. And as we mentioned that Scapple at the start, which was built for writers, we're going to open with what is the most popular dedicated writing platform: Scrivener may be thought of more as an author's toolkit, but at its heart it is built on the concept of mind mapping concepts into a document of work. While this may have been built for a single writer to develop a novel, there's no reason why it can't be used for any other type of project. The way it allows you to bring notes together and organize them around a central document can seem a little daunting at first, but once you get the hang of it it's difficult not to imagine working on a project without it. Coggle is all about flow charts, connecting ideas and concepts together. It's a simple app that's easy to use, as all that's require is for you to put down and join together ideas and the connections between them. You can then export your work as an image file or PDF as required. A handy feature is that the software continually autosaves so it's easy to roll back to an early version. Even better, the software is free to download. WiseMapping is a web-based app which means you should have no problem with cross-platform compatibility. It can also be used collaboratively, and your finished mind map can be shared easily, including to online blogs. There's a free version available for individuals, but you can download a copy to your own company servers if you want to use it for business. Either way, it's free to use. IdeaFlip is another web-app that runs in your browser, so it shouldn't matter which operating system you use, whether on desktop of mobile. It's a more developed collaborative platform than some of the others, and has both team and management features built in. Also unlike some of the others listed here, it's not free, with monthly plans costing between $9-$16, depending on how many users and features you want. LucidChart is also focused on collaborative flowcharts for business users, and is probably best described as a diagramming app more than anything. This means that it is good for more than just mind mapping but also project flows. The flexibility built into the program means it has a large corporate following and boasts a number of Fortune 500 companies as clients. Even still, it's not that expensive to use, with plans starting at just $4.95 per user per month. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
Is this the Samsung Galaxy Note 10 Plus? This might be the first look Posted: 28 Jun 2019 11:34 AM PDT We’re eagerly awaiting more news about the Samsung Galaxy Note 10, but we might have gotten our first look at the rumored higher-specced ‘Pro’ model - which, according to a leak, will officially be called the Samsung Galaxy Note 10 Plus. YouTube channel TechTalkTV picked up leaked images via an Instagram account and put them in a video (below). There are three photos total, showing off the front and rear of the supposed Samsung flagship. The device in question - branded as a Samsung Galaxy Note 10 Plus, not the standard Note 10 - looks like a Samsung phone, with a display that curves at the edges and a noticeable punch-hole on the top-center of the front screen. Three cameras are vertically lined up on the phone’s upper-left corner. This resembles our previous close look at the phone, a 360-degree rendering. That mock-up had the same placement for the punch-hole and rear cameras, which supports the new photo leak. The depicted device also doesn't seem to have a front-facing grille for a speaker, suggesting that Samsung is building in a sound-conducing screen, as Tom's Guide pointed out. Unfortunately, however, none of the photos showed off the stylus, a mainstay of the Galaxy Note series. The Samsung Galaxy Note 9 introduced a programmable button on the stylus that allowed users to snap photos from afar (among other actions), and we’re looking forward to what the Note 10 could add. Is it the real deal? While this looks promising it’s far too early to tell if this is the real deal - we’ll wait for more confirmation (aka more rumors and leaks) to corroborate this early look. Images like these give us an idea how the Note 10 Plus might look, but don't reveal any specs or features - let alone how the assumedly higher-specced (and probably pricier) model will differ from the base phone, so for now it's a definite maybe. Hopefully this is the beginning of more information coming for the Note 10, however, which other rumors predict will launch in early August.

Reminder: game changing "Text to Switch" rule starts on Monday Posted: 28 Jun 2019 11:05 AM PDT It's about to get a whole lot easier for mobile phone users in the UK to change to a new contract or network when the new Text to Switch rules come into effect on Monday. The process of changing mobile carriers or contracts has always been a bit of a hassle for consumers but with Text to Switch, mobile customers will now be able to leave their existing network by sending a single text message. According to research from uSwitch, at least 15 percent of mobile users are out of contract which results in them paying £27.4m more than they should be every month, resulting in a total overspend of over £325m a year. However, come Monday, these customers will now be able to switch to a new and better deal almost instantly.
Of those who have tried to switch mobile carriers or plans, 40 percent have experienced difficulties while doing so. Some have struggled to take their existing number to a new handset, some have found it hard to navigate telecom websites and others have become increasingly frustrated with automated phone services after being placed on hold by call centers. Text to SwitchWhen a customer texts a request for a a cancellation code or a PAC code (porting authorization code), mobile carriers will have to respond immediately and the codes they send will be valid for 30 days. These codes will be short and all mobile providers are required to use the same codes. In addition to sending customers codes, providers will also have to include important information about any early termination charges, outstanding handset costs or pay-as-you-go credit balances. Head of regulation at uSwitch, Richard Neudegg provided further insight on the new rules, saying: “Too many mobile phone customers experience difficulties when changing to a different network. It should be networks’ best interests to make switching as easy as possible. If the process is slow and cumbersome people will quickly become frustrated. But a slick and speedy service will boost consumer confidence and increase the likelihood they will switch - a win for consumers and the industry. The theoretical hassle of switching has now been reduced, and the potential savings for millions of customers should make this a no-brainer. Networks have had 18 months to prepare for the implementation of Text to Switch, so it is likely that they will be prepared for the influx of cancellation requests they will receive on Monday. Nokia distances itself from CTO comments about Huawei Posted: 28 Jun 2019 09:57 AM PDT Nokia has disowned comments made by one of its senior executives regarding the security of its rival Huawei in the networking space. In a recent interview with the BBC, the company's CTO Marcus Weldon warned the UK against using equipment made by the Chinese firm as it could pose a risk to the country's 5G networks. To back up his claims, Weldon cited a new report from the US security firm Finite State, which provided further details on vulnerabilities present in Huawei's enterprise networking equipment, saying:
“We read those reports and we think okay, we’re doing a much better job than they are. Some of it seems to be just sloppiness, honestly, that they haven't patched things, they haven't upgraded. But some of it is real obfuscation, where they make it look like they have the secure version when they don't." Nokia and Huawei respondWeldon also praised US restrictions on Huawei which he argued make up for unfair financial advantages the Chinese firm has taken advantage of in the past, saying: “It’s fairness returning to the market. We were disadvantaged in the past relative to the practices that the Chinese were allowed to have in terms of funding mechanisms.” Shortly after the interview, Nokia released a statement distancing itself from the comments of its CTO. “Nokia notes the comments made by a Nokia executive to the BBC on 27 June 2019 regarding the possible impact of the use of a competitor’s products on the security of UK telecom networks. These comments do not reflect the official position of Nokia.” Huawei also responded to Weldon's comments about the security of its products in a statement, which reads: "Nokia’s statement that one executive’s comments on Huawei do not reflect their official position is a recognition that ill-informed loose talk does not help our customers or the industry more widely. We win new business by fair competition and on the basis of our technology and customer focus, not by denigrating our competitors. The best way to improve cyber security and ensure network resilience is for all vendors to agree to independent testing of their equipment and source code - just as we have done in the UK."
