Redskins vs Giants live stream: how to watch today's NFL football from anywhere

Posted: 29 Sep 2019 08:00 AM PDT

We’ve reached week 4 of the 2019-2020 NFL season already and this weekend we’ll get to see the Washington Redskins take on the New York Giants at MetLife Stadium. We’re here to make sure you catch every minute of today’s game - see how to get a Redskins vs Giants live stream regardless of where in the world you are.

The Redskins have had a rough go of it so far this season, losing to the Eagles in week 1, losing to the Cowboys in week 2 and losing to the Bears in week 3. The team is going into their game against the Giants 0-3 but there is some good news as starting quarterback Case Keenum may actually get to play now that he is out of his protective boot after recovering from a broken leg last year. According to Redskins head coach Jay Gruden, Keenum is expected to be in the lineup against the Giants during today’s game.

The Giants may not be as bad off as the Redskins but the team could certainly be doing better. During week 1 they lost to the Cowboys 17-35 and in week 2 they lost to the Bills 28-14. Last week though, the Redskins earned their first win this season against the Buccaneers when Daniel Jones scored a touchdown of a seven yard run with just over a minute left on the clock during the fourth quarter.

Whether you’re a Redskins fan in Washington DC, a Giants fan in New York or just want to tune in to see the oldest rivalry in the NFC East, we’ll show you how to live stream the Redskins vs Cowboys from anywhere in the world so you don’t miss a single touchdown.

Watch the Redskins vs Giants game online from outside your country (or in a blackout)

Watching this game from the US, UK, Canada or Australia? We'll tell you how to catch the NFL game further down in the article.

But if you're somewhere else in the world - or if a coverage blackout is stopping you from watching in the US - then there's still a way you can live stream Redskins vs Giants online (and you don't even have to slum it with a grainy, illegal feed you've found on Reddit). Instead you could use a VPN - or Virtual Private Network - to change the IP address to one in a different state or country which does have a stream. And it's not even hard to do.

Can I watch with the NFL Game Pass?

Well it's a no and a yes. The NFL Game Pass in the US will only let you watch a replay of the game, but not the live action.

Interestingly, it's a different story with an International NFL Game Pass where all 256 regular season games are being shown absolutely live...shame you can't officially get access to that if you and your laptop's IP address is in the US.

Other ways cord cutters can stream NFL live online

Sling TV $40 per month - Sling TV splits its live NFL options across its $25 a month Blue plan and $25 a month Orange plan. By combining the two, you get a $10 dollar discount and access to Fox, NBC, ESPN and the NFL Network.

Hulu with Live TV $40 per month - Hulu with Live TV includes CBS, Fox, NBC and ESPN but does not come with NFL Network.

FuboTV $35 for the first month - FuboTV gives you the first month at a discounted rate but after that the price increases to $45 a month. The service includes CBS, Fox, NBC and the NFL Network but does not come with ESPN.

DirecTV Now $50 per month - DirecTV Now includes CBS, Fox, NBC, ESPN and for $5 extra you can add the NFL Network. However, with this service you can only watch football on local TV stations live.

YouTubeTV $40 per month - YouTubeTV gives you access to CBS, Fox, NBC and ESPN but just like with Hulu with Live TV, there is no NFL Network.

How Dolby Atmos can bring paintings to life

Posted: 29 Sep 2019 08:00 AM PDT

When you hear the name Dolby Atmos, the immersive 360-degree virtual surround sound technology, you may think of big-budget blockbusters with bone-rattling explosions, pounding gunfire, and dazzling orchestral scores.

But Dolby Atmos isn’t just about making the loudest noise possible. In fact, the technology can be used in far more subtle, nuanced ways, to enhance shows and films you never would have previously associated with the object-based surround sound.

One such show is Sky Arts’ Portrait Artist of the Year, in which a panel of judges seek to uncover the UK’s next rising star in portrait painting. Contestants are challenged to produce striking portraits of famous sitters, with the winner awarded a £10,000 (around $12,000 / AU$18,000) commission to paint a celebrity – the resulting picture winning a coveted place in a national gallery.

Filmed in Battersea Arts Centre in London, the show is set against the backdrop of a grand gallery, with the scratching of paintbrushes on canvas and the murmuring of guests echoing around the cavernous hall.

It’s a relaxing, wholesome watch – and absolutely not the kind of program you’d expect to benefit from the cinematic sound of Dolby Atmos. We visited Sky Studios in West London to see its newly Dolby Atmos-certified mixing studio to find out why the technology is in fact perfect for Portrait Artist of the Year.

What is Dolby Atmos?

Dolby Atmos is an audio format, just like stereo sound or surround sound, taking recorded audio from a movie soundtrack, sporting event, or video game, and processing it to sound more immersive.

Unlike stereo or surround sound, however, Dolby Atmos puts the audio in a three-dimensional space, making it feel as though sound is coming at you from all angles – for example, making the sound of a helicopter appear as though its whirring overhead.

This process happens in sound studios where sound designers and dubbing mixers take this audio and digitally move it this virtual 3D space. When you play the movie back using Dolby Atmos-enabled audio devices, you'll be able to hear the sound effects move around you, just like the audio engineers intended.

Many cinemas are now decked out with Dolby Atmos equipment, which use upfiring tweeters and strategically placed speakers to immerse movie-watchers within a bubble of sound. It’s not only relegated to cinemas though; an increasing number of home audio gadgets, including soundbars, wireless speakers, and hi-fi systems incorporate Atmos technology to achieve a similar effect in your living room.

It’s viewers with this kind of kit that Sky is targeting with its increasing roster of Atmos-enabled shows.

Building the studio

Built over the last year, Sky’s new Dolby Atmos mixing studio has been a labor of love for the broadcaster’s audio team manager, John Cochran, who told us that he “jumped at the chance” to create the new space.

Sky’s partnership with Dolby began long before this however, with Sky Sports launching the virtual surround sound technology in 2019 for its Premier League football coverage – in the years since then, Sky’s Dolby Atmos output has evolved to Rugby, pay-per-view boxing, as well as original drama.

Atmos makes perfect sense in the arena of live sports, where it can transport you to the game, with the cheers of the crowd coming at you from all angles. But how can the technology bring a comforting painting program to life?

Portraits Artist of the Year hosts Joan Bakewall and Stephen Mangan with jazz star Courtney Pine

The art of subtlety

For Dolby’s head of home content engineering, Rob France, it’s all about conveying the beauty of a space – something the Battersea Arts Centre has in spades.

“We have so many lovely spaces that sound beautiful when we’re in them – and stereo and 5.1 don’t bring about that naturally beautiful sound,” he explains.

“What we want to do is bring about that feeling of being there – and the interesting thing about Portrait Artist of the Year, is that it’s fundamentally a visual show; it’s about people painting portraits.”

It may not be the kind of show you’d expect to benefit from Dolby Atmos, but as France explains, having audio at the forefront of the viewing experience “really helps to put the viewer in that space and give a sense of what the contestants hear around them” – and that gives viewers at home an insight into the pressures they face by performing in that pressured environment.

Jodie Kidd sits for a portrait in season five of Portrait Artist of the Year

Sound designer Finn Curry explains that the use of multidirectional dialogue combined with the echoic nature of the Arts Centre gives the audio “a rich feeling” by “enhancing what’s already there”, rather than adding fantastical effects that would detract from the show itself.

He says, “the program has a gentle feeling of time passing, with people talking about the way they paint” – and it’s his job to enhance these hushed snippets of dialog, as well as giving prominence to the reverberant sound of the hosts giving instructions to the contestants.

As the hosts interject, their voices naturally bounce around the walls of the Arts Centre – something that is lost in traditional stereo sound.

With Dolby Atmos, their voices are given a sense of height, reverberating around the studio as they would in the space itself – this provides a true sense of immersion for the viewer, making you feel as though you are in the hall with them.

This also makes it easier to understand how the contestants may be feeling; as the judges tell them that they can begin painting, their voices cut through the hushed chatter and subtle background music, and you feel the nervous anticipation of the artists as they pick up their brushes.

It’s not just about adding drama; the use of Dolby Atmos means that you can hear sounds that may not normally come across so clearly; the sound of brushes on canvas, pencil scratching on paper, and the mixing of paints on a palette.

The difference is subtle, but noticeable, and these seemingly minor sonic details build up to create a truly immersive viewing experience; you could easily lose yourself in the gentle ambience of the show.

More and more soundbars are getting support for Dolby Atmos, like the Samsung HW-Q90R (pictured)

Looking to the future

Portrait Artist of the Year may sound stunning in a Dolby Atmos-certified studio, but what about viewers at home? Isn’t Sky spending an awful lot of time appealing to just a handful of viewers who have access to Atmos-compatible equipment?

According to Cochrane, it doesn’t matter if there are only a few people out there with Dolby Atmos soundbars and speakers – to him it’s totally worth the effort for Sky “to do the best we can”.

After all, the more shows, films, and video games that support Dolby Atmos, the more likely it is that consumers will start to invest in this kind of equipment – and for Cochrane, there’s no genre that couldn’t benefit from the audio technology.

“I think Dolby Atmos has a tremendous breadth of application, whether it’s television, theatre, or exhibitions.”

With Sky, as well as streaming platforms like Netflix and YouTube, increasing its Dolby Atmos output, it’s now down to viewers to make a choice between standard sound, and breathtaking immersion.

The latest iOS 13.1.1 patch should fix your Siri and battery life problems

Posted: 29 Sep 2019 06:30 AM PDT

Whenever a new version of iOS (or Android) gets pushed out, it's typically followed by a flurry of smaller patches designed to fix whatever problems the major update has caused – and that's proving to be the case with iOS 13.

Apple just released iOS 13.1.1 for iPhones, which should fix problems you may have been having with poor battery life, as well as problems that have surfaced in regards to restoring iPhones from a backup.

On the newest iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 Pro models, iOS 13.1.1 improves Siri recognition requests, Apple says – owners of the latest handsets had been reporting problems with Siri ignoring them.

At the same time, Apple has released a corresponding update for iPads with iPadOS 13.1.1. It looks as though the two mobile operating systems will be upgraded in tandem for the foreseeable future.

Patch happy

Getting iPhones and iPads updated is of course a breeze these days, but if you are putting off the notification alert telling you iOS 13.1.1 is ready and waiting, we'd recommend getting it installed at your earliest opportunity.

The latest patches also address problems that have been reported with third-party keyboards, slow syncing in the Reminders app, and Safari search suggestions.

To force an update on your iPhone, open up Settings, tap General, and then choose Software Update. At the rate Apple is going we might well be up to iOS 13.1.2 by the time you read this.

The iOS 13 roll out has been unusual, in that a number of key features were held back by Apple for the iOS 13.1 update, which arrived a week after iOS 13. Now that 13.1.1 is here, let's hope bugs and issues are kept down to a minimum.

One simple light makes all of the difference on the 2019 Chevy Blazer

Posted: 29 Sep 2019 06:00 AM PDT

Tech advancements in cars tend to jump forward in major leaps, and then slowly improve over time. One example of that is an automated liftgate, which I tested for the first time in a Ford Escape a few years ago. Carrying a heavy load of groceries in one hand and a laptop bag in the other, you can kick your foot under the rear of the car and the liftgate will pop open.

The problem is that it’s hard to know where you can kick your foot, and for someone borrowing the car (or, say, testing it for a week as a journalist), you may not even know the feature exists or that it is available at that trim level.

2019 Chevy Blazer

In a recent test of the 2019 Chevy Blazer, I found one simple light in the back of the vehicle – unique to the Blazer, as far as I know – helped me use the liftgate feature. It was particularly useful at night when it’s not obvious where the rear bumper is even located.

Automated liftgates debuted at a time when something like that seemed almost magical. Showing it to a few friends way back in 2013 with the Escape, I remember them standing around with shocked looks not knowing how it worked. (In truth, it’s a simple motion sensor that detects your foot.) A few even tried it and laughed about how cool it all seemed.

Lighting the way

Fast forward to 2019 and it seems like every other car these days use an automated liftgate. I’ve seen it on several Ford and Chevy models lately. On the Blazer, it’s enhanced by a simple light that shines down on the group showing the Chevy logo.

When you approach the car, the Blazer senses the keyfob in your pocket automatically and turns on the lights all around the car, including the one below the liftgate. It’s much easier to see the bumper and kick your foot under that area, and it’s also a signal to any new driver or someone borrowing the car that this feature is available.

After several tests, I realized how useful it is to always push your foot under the same area. You can do the same maneuver again to close the liftgate.

2019 Chevy Blazer

This points to a trend with automated cars and future autonomous driving. Signaling is an important part of tech advancement in cars – letting drivers know what is available with subtle cues. Let’s say future cars will be able to open the door when you approach or by a voice command. A tiny light in a display on the side of the car or also pointing down to the ground indicating that this is possible will help. It will make adjusting to robots easier.

Other interface cues will guide drivers – say, a pulsing icon in the dash that lets the driver know it’s OK to use full automation mode because there isn’t too much traffic, or some kind of holographic display to help you adjust the settings for automated mode.

These cues will be far more important as we enter an age of more robotics and automation. In cars from just a few years ago, we didn’t need these tips and clues, because the vehicles were not that advanced. As more automated features debut, especially ones that we’ve never seen or used before, it will be much more important for automakers to guide us.

The EMUI 10 update elevates your Huawei P30 Pro to new levels of speed and user-experience

Posted: 29 Sep 2019 05:45 AM PDT

A couple of months ago the experience on the Huawei P30 Pro was elevated with the release of EMUI 9.1 that brought key visual and performance upgrades. It’s about to get even better with Huawei’s latest version of EMUI which is based on the freshly minted Android 10. As we’ve said in our review, the P30 Pro sets a new standard for the entire mobile industry. Its four rear cameras are quite simply astonishing, along with an eye-catching design and plenty of power.

Today we’re going to compare EMUI 9.1 with Huawei’s latest version EMUI 10 which runs on top of Android 10. Now, EMUI 10 is still in beta and it’s not the final version but we have it running on the P30 Pro and we wanted to show you some comparisons between EMUI 9.1 and talk about what’s changed in EMUI 10 and the new features you can expect if you have a compatible Huawei smartphone.

We’ve got two P30 Pros here - one running EMUI 9.1 and another on EMUI 10.0 beta. We’ve seen EMUI go through quite a few design upgrades over the past couple of years but EMUI 10 is perhaps the largest visual overhaul yet.

If we go to Settings, you’ll see that it’s not just one long list anymore as on EMUI 9. On EMUI 10 menu items are grouped into lists, which is overall better to look at and makes it easy to find what you’re looking for. Text is also more spaced out, less cluttered and overall easier on the eye.

Another noticeable change is on the notifications panel. EMUI 10 moves away from the old fashioned cramped rows of notification icons and instead uses a nicer translucent background with larger notification icons that have circular backgrounds and toggle animations so you can clearly see what settings are enabled at a quick glance. It’s still customizable as before and you can add any setting you wish to the notification tray.

But one of the big changes and features of EMUI 10 is an Enhanced Dark Mode which is slightly different from the way it’s used in Android 10. Huawei’s implementation is more system wide meaning once you turn Dark Mode on under Display settings, it’ll force all compatible apps that support it to automatically switch to Dark Mode. You’ll also notice that Enhanced Dark Mode doesn’t just invert colors from black to white which would be quite harsh but uses a variety of grey, black and whites to produce a dark theme that won’t strain your eyes.

Pleasant aesthetics and visual elements being easy on the eyes is a common theme across this latest version of EMUI - one you will see as soon as you unlock the phone. On EMUI 9 you’ll see icons are smaller and close to one another but on EMUI 10, icons have been refreshed. Huawei’s proprietary app icons also have a better and low saturated color scheme. Icons in general have a more rounded look and are spaced out, which gives it a nice, modern feel.

Another small touch we love are the animations that are added to simple tasks like tapping on icons, or closing apps. For instance, when you tap on an icon in EMUI 10, it depresses it into the screen kind of like pressing a button. When you’re closing an app, the app screen minimizes and moves along with your finger and then settles back to where its app icon is. When you’re switching between apps, you’ll see similar animations - tapping on an app screen and moving it around has a springboard like animation which varies depending on the amount of force you apply in each tap. It makes things seem a lot more fluid and responsive and makes the OS look and feel like a premium experience.

EMUI 10 will also tweak the Always On display setting. On EMUI 9 the text that’s displayed is plain white but on EMUI 10 you will be able to add colors and themes that will change according to the time of day. Unfortunately, it’s not available on the beta version, but we expect this feature to appear when the full version launches soon.

The camera app in EMUI 10 also looks different to EMUI 9. The shutter button is revamped and Huawei’s also tweaked the typography. Switching between modes you’ll see that each mode’s name flashes in a big font to clearly show which mode you’ve chosen. On night mode you’ll notice that a countdown in seconds comes on the screen instead of loading wheel around the record button, The zoom slider has also been tweaked to where a tap turns it into a slider and magnified numbers show what level you’re at. In EMUI 9, tapping on the zoom slider just switches between a set of pre-set levels. This way it’s easier to find the zoom level you’re looking for.

Apart from visual changes, there are a bunch of speed and performance boosts that are coming to EMUI 10. Copying files is going to be faster, and you’ll notice next to no lag when multitasking - even while running demanding apps -  and gaming remains a smooth buttery experience as ever.

Those are the new features you can expect on EMUI 10. Huawei’s major focus has been on tweaking visual elements and boosting performance to keep things running smoothly. EMUI 10 beta will roll out on the P30 Pro soon and will be rolling out on other Huawei devices like the Mate 20 and Huawei Nova 4 in the coming weeks.

AMD Ryzen 9 3900X CPU remains hard to buy – with prices now seriously jacked up as a result

Posted: 29 Sep 2019 03:56 AM PDT

AMD’s Ryzen 9 3900X CPU remains seriously difficult to find, for those looking to buy the 12-core processor, and as a result, in the very few places this CPU is available at all – and indeed where it isn’t, but has pre-order prices – retailers are jacking up the asking price.

This is the case in both the US and the UK, sadly, as we scan across online prices and availability levels this morning at the time of writing.

In the US, the Ryzen 9 3900X launched with an official price of $499, but it’s now selling at $579.99 at Newegg – although it’s out of stock currently – and it was selling at $569.99 at Micro Center (although there, the price has actually been removed, and the CPU is now listed as ‘unavailable online’).

You can get the 3900X at Newegg from a third-party marketplace seller, but it will cost you an eye-watering $799.99. Similarly at Amazon.com, it’s out of stock with the retailer itself, and you can only get it from marketplace sellers with the cheapest option currently ready to ship being $739.99.

This is, as Tom’s Hardware clarifies, not anything to do with AMD, of course, but the decision of the retailers themselves to bump up prices knowing that there’s a (much) greater demand than supply.

Best Buy is a rarity in that it appears to have stuck to the official $499.99 price, although that’s somewhat meaningless right now as it is – surprise, surprise – out of stock. Still, all credit to this retailer for not hiking the price tag up.

So you might want to keep your eye on Best Buy for when the 3900X does come back in stock, if you’re after this 12-core beast. There’s no indication of when stock might be replenished, although interestingly, in the questions and answers section, there’s the following comment: “Word on the street is that October 1, 2019 is when Ingram Micro, a big distributor, will have the Ryzen 9 back in stock.”

Those are the musings of a punter, though, not a Best Buy employee, so take that with a very generous spoonful of caution.

Similar story

In the UK, it’s a similar story. When the Ryzen 9 3900X first emerged, prices were generally pitched around the £499 level, or that was certainly the asking price at Overclockers.co.uk.

However, at the time of writing, that retailer is asking £559.59, although naturally there’s no stock, and you can only pre-order.

Scan and eBuyer are both asking a few pennies under £532, so that doesn’t look quite so bad, but again, they’ve got no units to sell right now. However, the latter does state that stock should be available on October 4, so fingers crossed that pans out for those keen to get one of these new Ryzen 3rd-gen chips.

As for Amazon UK, it does actually have stock – at least via Amazon EU Sarl, but the bad news is the price is a staggering £788.34 (at the time of writing, as with all these prices). Third-party marketplace sellers do have the Ryzen 9 3900X available, with the cheapest being £548.40.

Stock levels of the 3900X have always been thin on the ground, right from the off. However, given the slight aforementioned indications that there could be an easing of the stock situation in both the US and UK next week, in early October, we can but hope the situation might change sooner rather than later.

But with AMD admitting to stock issues in terms of getting the incoming flagship Ryzen 9 3950X on shelves – it should have been out now, but has been delayed to November – that hope might sadly be overly optimistic.

If nothing else, we can certainly hope that AMD will be making sure stock levels are broadly more healthy and robust in time for Black Friday sales, which of course comes in November (to be precise, November 29).

Patriots vs Bills live stream: how to watch today's NFL football from anywhere

Posted: 29 Sep 2019 03:01 AM PDT

Week 4 of the 2019-2020 NFL season is here and this weekend we’ll get to see the New England Patriots take on the Buffalo Bills. This is a game you don’t want to miss as both of these AFC East teams are currently undefeated. Luckily we’re here to make sure you catch every minute of today’s game - see how to get a Patriots vs Bills live stream regardless of where in the world you are.

Last weekend, the Patriots faced off against the Jets and earned their third victory in a row this season with a final score of 3-0. While the Jets are certainly an underdog, Bill Belichick’s Patriots have been playing exceptional defense and the team has not allowed a single offensive touchdown throughout the first three weeks of this season. Could the Buffalo Bills put an end to this streak?

As the defending NFL champions, the Patriots performance so far this year is to be expected. However, the same thing can’t be said about the Bills. The Bills are also going into today’s game 3-0 but their successful run has taken some national media by surprise. Last week the team took on the Cincinnati Bengals in front of a sold out New Era Field crowd and managed to win the game 21-17 thanks to Frank Gore’s 1 yard run for a touchdown with just under two minutes left in the fourth quarter.

Whether you’re a Patriots fan in New England, a Bills fan in Buffalo or just want to see the two teams currently tied for first place in the AFC East face off, we’ll show you how to live stream the Patriots vs Bills from anywhere in the world so you don’t miss a single play.

Future iPhones could use the Apple logo as a notification light

Posted: 29 Sep 2019 02:30 AM PDT

Future iPhones could make use of subtle color-changing decorations on the back of their casings, according to a recently filed Apple patent – maybe even turning the Apple logo on the phones into a notification light.

The patent, as spotted by AppleInsider, is for "Electronic Devices with Adjustable Decoration". That essentially means extra layers on top of the phone case that can be controlled by the operating system.

Included in the patent details are mentions of incoming communications or calendar alerts, which might change the appearance of different parts of the case. These decorations could also be used to give feedback from the camera.

The filing says that the final application of the technology "may include a logo", which suggests some kind of dynamic Apple logo on the next batch of iPhones. That's actually a rumor that's been floating around for years now.

The light fantastic

While we've focused on iPhones so far, the patent could just as easily apply to MacBooks and other Apple hardware as well. MacBooks of years gone by did have illuminated logos on the lid, but this was effectively killed off by the 2016 MacBook Pro refresh.

Before you get too excited about a color-changing iPhone case, remember that this is just a patent application: tech companies file these applications all the time, and they don't necessarily always end up featuring in actual products.

Still, it's one way that Apple might try to change up the look of the 2020 iPhones and the ones that follow - imagine a flashing Apple logo telling you about an incoming call while your phone is flat on a desk and muted.

The iPhone design hasn't changed an awful lot in the last two years, which suggests a more significant shift could be happening next year – among the rumors we've heard so far is talk of a display with a 120Hz refresh rate.

Second-hand TV sales are huge and growing faster than first-hand in UAE

Posted: 28 Sep 2019 11:25 PM PDT

If you are planning to buy a TV, this is the best time to buy as it is a buyers’ market.

While Gitex Shopper is taking place, other online retailers such as Noon.com is having its Big Yellow Sale, LuLu ‘s Digitech and Amazon’s Tech Bazar simultaneously.

Isam Arshad, research analyst at Euromonitor International, said that the TV market is not growing in the UAE this year.

Even after the prices of OLED TVs have come down, he said that it is still expensive.

“As a lot of expats are leaving and going back, they are selling their TVs online. So, the second-hand TV market is huge and growing faster than the first-hand sale and people can get it at almost half the price on certain models,” he said.

Deepak Babani, executive vice-chairman at Eros Group, said that there are multiple reasons for the fall in TV demand.

“Most people are using mobile phones to watch TV content. People buying multiple TVs for their homes are shrinking. The need for a replacement is limited as long as you have a 4K TV. The price difference is higher and the picture quality is negligible,” he said.

South Korean TV manufacturer – LG – has been out of the market this year and Babani said that the impact hasn’t been felt at all.

“The demand is very subdued and people are ready to take whatever brand is available. The price drops are severe due to a fall in Chinese TV panel exports to the US, so there is an overproduction of panels,” he said.

Pankaj Kumar, head of omnichannel retail at Jumbo Electronics, said that TVs are in better position than last year. Last year, he said the fall in value used to be in double digits but this year, it is in single digits.

Wearables are fastest growing category

Then the next question arising is which segment is growing among the consumer electronics this year.

Arshad said that smartwatches are the only category that is growing the fastest this year, followed by smartphones.

Smartwatches, including smartbands, is growing for health and wellness reasons, fuelled by Apple, he said and added that it is expected to grow by 10% in value this year.

According to research firm International Data Corporation, the top five companies – Xiaomi, Apple, Huawei, Fitbit, and Samsung – continued to push forward with new products and promotional campaigns during the second quarter, collectively capturing 65.7% of the market, an almost 12-point gain from last year.

The total market in the second quarter increased by 28.8% to 34.2m compared to 26.6m a year ago.

However, Arshad said that mature products such as laptops, digital cameras, and LCD TVs will be benefitting from manufacturers’ push for premium features and technological improvements. The category taking the biggest hit in value is the imaging devices by 13%, followed by laptops by 5% and LCD TV by 2%.

“TVs and laptops are not going away anytime soon, as the products’ relatively high prices help companies maintain their profit margins and revenues despite selling fewer units than portable consumer electronics,” he said.

Online retailing revs up

For 2019, the overall consumer electronics market is expected to reach AED 14b in value compared to AED 13.4 billion last year. Out of this, online retail is expected to be worth AED150m.

“Yes, internet retailing is the fastest-growing consumer electronics retail channel for 2018-19 GR at 12%. Internet retailing will account to be 23% of all retailing by 2024 for consumer electronics,” he said.

Furthermore, he said that online is growing in double digits and the UAE market is more dependent on online rather than brick and mortar sales.

“If the internet was down for a day, online retailers will lose millions. That is the state of the market. People are buying even groceries online. Going to a mall or retail store to buy consumer electronics is a painful and stressful routine.

“Online purchasing makes it easy and consumers have deep trust in online purchasing due to the excellent service. Online retailers are ready to take back the product, without any questions asked, even if you have used it. Just go online and click for return. They will come to your home or office and take the product,” he said.

Errol Spence Jr vs Shawn Porter live stream: how to watch tonight's boxing online from anywhere

Posted: 28 Sep 2019 04:12 PM PDT

Boxing's welterweight division is something of a mess right now, with four different champions currently holding titles.

But all that's about to change with a run of unification battles, the first of which is tonight with IBF champion Errol Spence Jr and WBC belt holder Shawn Porter set to go head-to-head (Manny Pacquiao (WBA) and Terence Crawford (WBO) are strongly rumoured to be locking horns early next year).

Which fighter will take a major step to being crowned the best in what is currently one of boxing’s most intriguing divisions? With our handy guide below, we'll tell you how simple it is to get a Spence Jr vs Porter live stream no matter where you are in the world.

Younger and more highly regarded, with a 25-0, 21 KO record, Spence fights for the first time since March when he retained his IBF title in dominant style during a 12 round shutout of the previously unbeaten Mikey Garcia.

Porter (30-2-1, 17 KOs), is more of a brawler who is at his best when trading blows at close range. He'll be defending his prized WBC title which he won from Danny Garcia last year. While that fight rejuvenated Porter's career, he'll need to be at his absolute best to pull off a shock against his much respected Texan opponent tonight.

To catch everything online, you've come to the right place. Read on to find out how to stream Spence Jr vs Porter live anywhere in the world.
