Robin Hood of ransomware' wreaks revenge on shady businesses

Posted: 21 May 2020 01:22 PM PDT

A group of hackers is fighting back against online scammers by targeting “scam” companies with ransomware and denial of service attacks.

A new ransomware called MilkmanVictory was recently discovered online and the hackers behind it, who call themselves CyberWare, revealed in a post on Twitter that they created it specifically to send to scammers.

BleepingComputer also spoke to the group who said they have begun targeting companies performing what they refer to as “loan scams”. In these scams, victims are told that they will receive a loan after making a payment to a company but in reality there is no loan and no way for them to get their money back.

This isn't the first time we've seen hackers targeting other hackers as back in March of this year, Cybereason discovered that hackers were modifying existing hacking tools by injecting a powerful remote-access Trojan into them.

Targeting scammers

As part of its new campaign against scammers, CyberWare is sending phishing emails containing links to executables disguised as PDF files. The group is also conducting denial of service attacks to bring down scam company's websites.

The MilkmanVictory ransomware is being distributed as a destructive wiper attack as it does not provide victims with a way to contact the attackers and does not save the encryption key. Instead victims receive a ransom note on their computers which reads: “Hello!, This computer has been destroyed with the MilkmanVictory Ransomware because we know you are a scammer! - CyberWare Hackers :-)”.

Apparently the new ransomware is based on HiddenTear and because of this, if a key is not saved, it can still be decrypted using brute force attacks.

CyberWare claims to have targeted the German Lajunen Loan company with a DDoS attack and emails spreading its ransomware. At the time of writing, the company's website is still down which gives credence to the group's claims.

Google Fuchsia release date, news and rumors

Posted: 21 May 2020 11:36 AM PDT

What exactly is Google Fuchsia, and when can we expect it? In essence, it’s a fusion of the Chrome and Android operating systems (OS). Nobody knows what Google Fuchsia will look like once it’s released, as there’s very little concrete information out there. But, we believe that Google Fuchsia, if and when it finally comes to the light of day, will be the universal Google operating system stretching across all kinds of devices.

Google Fuchsia revolves around the idea of being able to do whatever you want from whatever device you have at the ready. We see hints of this approach in some of Google’s endeavors, like bringing Android Messages and a VR video editor to a wide range of hardware. There are also some Chromebooks, along with the Google Pixelbook, that can run both Android apps from the Google Play Store and an early build of Fuchsia itself – which is also rumored to run Android apps

Even the maligned Google Pixel Slate might actually offer a glimpse at what the future of Google Fuchsia will look like. While the tablet doesn’t give us a clue about when Fuchsia actually comes out, it does provide some kind of union between Chrome OS and a mobile OS. Google changed the UI of Chrome OS to be more palatable on tablet – bringing it closer to a unified OS across different families of devices. Whether it relates to Fuchsia remains to be seen, but we see it as a step in the right direction.

Unfortunately, information around Google Fuchsia’s target release date is hazy. We were expecting Google to announce Google Fuchsia, or Google Andromeda back in October 2017. However, that announcement never came. More than two years later, and there’s hardly any news.

Still, we’re here to give you everything you need to know about Google Fuchsia, from rumors, leaks and speculations to any information Google itself will release. Regardless of what the final product is, or whether or not Google Fuchsia ever makes it to the devices, be sure to keep this page bookmarked, as we’ll update it with any new information we find.

Cut to the chase

  • What is it? An Android-meets-Chrome, multi-device operating system
  • When is it out? An early form is available on the Google Pixelbook now
  • What will it cost? Likely nothing, as is with Android and Chrome

What is Google Fuchsia?

Right now, there appears to be a divide within Google regarding what Fuchsia actually is. While the team working on it says they want Fuchsia to be the ultimate Google OS, running on all of its phones, tablets, laptops and smart home devices – Google’s leadership is still considering it an experiment. That basically means that we’ll just have to wait and see what happens, and what materializes out of all this testing.

What we actually know is that Google Fuchsia is a hybrid OS that is still very much in its development stage. The entirety of Fuchsia OS is comprised of two distinct but connected user interface (UI): a phone-centric one codenamed ‘Armadillo’ and a traditional desktop UI known as ‘Capybara’ internally, according to 9to5Google.

So far, we know more about the mobile version of Fuchsia than the laptop one, but ArsTechnica was recently able to get Fuchsia running on a Google Pixelbook in a very early state. And, it looks like both versions should be capable of running Android apps, much like many Chromebooks in 2019. So, backwards compatibility looks to be something that early Fuchsia adopters can look forward to.

'Fuchsia is going to accomplish much of what Microsoft and Apple already have in Windows 10 and iOS-to-macOS Sierra Continuity, respectively, but in a very Google way.'

Dividing the OS up into two separate UI based on the hardware it’s being used on is a classic Microsoft-inspired move. Windows 10 already scales depending on whether it’s being used with a desktop computer, phone, tablet or game console. In fact, Windows 10’s only unifier is its kernel, the root code that controls most of the OS.

In the case of Fuchsia, that kernel is known as ‘Zircon,’ and it’s built to be consistently upgradeable – in addition to being safe from applications accessing it constantly, adding an extra layer of security and eliminating situations where apps are rendered incompatible with OS updates.

Whether it’s in the mobile or desktop mode, Fuchsia is loaded with Google’s Material design found all through its Android and Chrome OS products. Shadows are a big part of the design aesthetic, using a new Vulkan-based graphics renderer known as ‘Escher’ to do the job. The result is an interface with more depth to its appearance than traditionally flat OS products.

google fuchsia

In addition, Fuchsia is heavily focused on a card-based interface, in which each app you open appears inside one of these cards – plus, you can place multiple apps into a single card. This orients the user around tasks at hand rather than apps. Those apps are expected to look the same regardless of the device because of a new cross-platform mobile app development framework, developed by Google, known as Flutter.

Beyond that, Google Fuchsia revolves around Google Assistant more deeply accessing and working with your apps and information to provide even more actions and insights. Google has referred to these apps and pieces of information as ‘entities,’ according to a GitHub developer page, and they’re all accessible by Google Assistant on Fuchsia. We’ve even seen a recent demo that further demonstrates how deeply ingrained Google Assistant is in Fuchsia.

It also looks like Google will be changing how it gathers analytic data within Fuchsia, according to a report from 9to5 Google. Fuchsia will see the implementation of a new analytic program called ‘Cobalt,’ which will collect information on how you use apps within the OS. Cobalt is supposedly a part of Google’s security-minded approach to the OS, but encryption hasn’t been worked in yet. Nevertheless, we’re sure Google will roll better security into Cobalt eventually.

Google Chrome, or at least an early build of Chromium, is up and running on early builds of Google Fuchsia, according to a report from 9to5 Google. And, while it’s not ready for the limelight, this does mean that the fledgling OS is getting closer to being usable without days of preparation.

Finally, Fuchsia strives to be the best cross-device OS to date. To achieve this, Fuchsia uses a new tool known as ‘Ledger’ by the GitHub community. Ledger, once you’re signed into a Google Account on a Fuchsia device, will automatically hold your place in all installed apps across all Fuchsia devices.

All in all, Fuchsia is Google’s attempt to get the best of Chrome and Android into a single operating system that’s more efficient and seamless both while you’re using it and when you’re away – not to mention in between those states or between devices.

Google Fuchsia release date

Ever since August 2016, we’ve come across a ton of rumors about Google Fuchsia’s release date – and each turned out to be wrong. These rumors usually bubble up right before Google’s big Google IO developer event in California, or when we know a big hardware release is on the horizon.

Back in February, it was revealed that Google’s former head of Android platform security, Nick Kralevich, had left the Android team to ‘define security’ over in the Fuchsia department. Describing it as a “new, experimental operating system,” Kralevich doesn’t hint at any specific launch window. However, it does prove where Google chooses to put its most important resources.

Today, all the speculation points to Google Fuchsia running within the next three years just on smart home devices, with a full public release coming within the next five years. Still, that seems to be a rumor with little foundation – we’d be surprised if we saw it release before 2024 (or actual androids), if it ever actually comes out.

Recent developer messages through the Android Open Source Project do suggest some movement. One of the commits mentions two repos, which the folks at 9to5Google take to be the “incorporation of the official Fuchsia SDK”. Another commit mentions the Huawei Honor Play smartphone, so we could see Fuchsia tested on actual devices soon.

We’ve also seen evidence of other developers working on the platform. Yang Guo from the Node.js project at Google tweeted, looking for someone to help port Node over to Fuchsia, according to a report from Android Police. This suggests that Google is looking to implement full Javascript functionality to Fuchsia, and may point to some progress and maybe toward an eventual release date.

What might help point to some progress for the Google Fuchsia release date, though, is a new hire from Apple. Bill Stevenson, a senior macOS engineer for Apple, announced on LinkedIn that he is joining Google to help bring Fuchsia to market.

At any rate, keep it locked to this page as we draw closer to a possible release date, and therefore might have some new information for you.

What could Fuchsia mean for Android and Chrome – and Windows and macOS?

Word on the street is that Google Fuchsia is Google’s answer to Microsoft and Apple’s united platforms. In turning Android into one of the two biggest smartphone platforms and later popularizing Chrome OS – not to mention G-Suite, Google’s web-based productivity programs – Google has already been developing into a major player on all platforms.

From the sounds of it, Google is trying to accomplish much of what Microsoft and Apple already have in place with Windows 10, iOS and macOS High Sierra – continuity, respectively, but in a very Google way. It’s easy to expect access to Google’s unmatched search and data-tracking at your fingertips – Google Assistant and ‘entities’, anyone? – which it can boast as better than Microsoft and Apple’s, and an interface that evolves to meet the needs of the device from which it’s accessed.

Will this eventually mean the end of Android and Chrome? In name, most likely, but their principles will almost certainly live on – there's too much solid foundation not to build on them. Just look at the Material design language found throughout these early builds of either version of Fuchsia.

The end result – hopefully available in some kind of preview form later this year – will be just one platform for Google to worry about. With Fuchsia, Google will be able to push new updates and features to all versions at once, simplifying support as well as user understanding and experience.

With that, Google will become that much more of a formidable foe to Microsoft and Apple, and that much more enticing an option to Android and Chromebook users all over. Who knows, perhaps it will be enough to make converts from the other side of Microsoft and Apple’s fences.

Boasting an eye-catching aluminum bezel and polygonal stand that looks like a bird’s foot, this massive 34-inch monitor is a marvel to behold. Alienware 25

The Alienware 25 will all but eliminate screen tearing.

If you’re on a tight budget, then this might break the bank – like any Alienware product would. Still, Dell’s 25-inch gaming monitor will all but eliminate screen tearing, and whether you’re using an AMD Radeon VII or an Nvidia GeForce RTX 2080, there’s a configuration for you. With G-Sync or FreeSync taking some of the heavy lifting off the GPU that would otherwise be spent on VSync, the Alienware 25’s 120Hz refresh rate might actually be reasonable. The 1ms response time? Well, that’s just the cherry on top.

BenQ Zowie XL2540

The BenQ Zowie XL2540 gives up dazzling lighting effects for a ridiculous 240Hz refresh rate.

It might seem farfetched, but the BenQ Zowie XL2540 is every bit the gaming monitor that the Asus Predator X34 is. While it may not appear like it from the outside looking in, it does its job incredibly well too, giving up dazzling lighting effects for a ridiculous 240Hz refresh rate and almost-instantaneous 1ms response time. There’s no G-Sync or FreeSync, as this monitor assumes you already have a rig that’s more than capable of eliminating screen tears without any help. Instead, this monitor keeps it simple by providing you with lots of visual presets, an “S Switch” control pod for managing those presets and a pair of adjustable light screens.

MSI Optix MPG341CQR

The MSI Optix MPG341CQR has a super-wide resolution, incredibly fast response time and a viewing angle of 178 degrees.

If you’re searching for a gaming monitor with a super-wide 1440p resolution, incredibly fast response time of 1ms, a viewing angle of 178 degrees and a quick refresh rate, then the MSI Optix MPG341CQR is something you should consider. If not for those, then perhaps for the fact that MSI has decided to go with a VA panel, as opposed to IPS, giving it more contrast and punchier colors. A few bonuses are included, as well: snazzy “Mystic Light” RGD LEDs, USB-C connectivity, an integrated camera and a competitive price.

Best portable monitor 2020: top USB screens for working from home and remote working

Posted: 21 May 2020 11:05 AM PDT

With the continuing spread of the coronavirus (aka COVID-19) across the world, many companies are seeking to accommodate remote working for all employees to help reduce the spread of the coronavirus while also limiting any impact on productivity.

Here we feature the best in portable monitors to spruce up your new home office - but also check out our feature on the best office chairs around today.

Count on the best portable monitor to easily expand your workspace, especially if you use a laptop or work from home, while still keeping things compact. Rather than having to accommodate a big and unwieldy monitor, which often requires its own stand, power supply and a bigger space, portable monitors can quickly and easily plug into your laptop or PC via a USB cable

With the best portable monitors, you quickly and easily have more room to work on without needing to considerably expand your physical area. They afford you the benefit of having a secondary monitor to really improve your productivity and even use one monitor to display a single program full screen, like your email client. And, with many monitor manufacturers putting out thin and light models that are just as good as their full-sized brethren – Apple even lets you use an iPad as a portable monitor, they give you that option to take this multi-screen setup with you wherever you go.

No matter if you're writing, doing graphic design work, coding or working as a call center assistant, having a secondary monitor will give your desktop some breathing room, spreading apps out in a more natural way. So, we went ahead and picked out the best portable monitors on the market. We've even included our exclusive price comparison tool, so you can find the best deal quickly, because we know it's a busy world out there.

The Asus ZenScreen MB16A Portable Monitor is one of the nicest-looking USB monitors we’ve seen, and it comes with a number of features and design considerations that make it an incredibly handy device, and one of the best portable monitors. However, it comes at a price, with the ZenScreen proving to be more expensive than many of the other portable monitors on this list. However, the build and image quality of this screen makes it well worth the extra money. Fans of Asus' ZenBook laptops should be particularly interested in this device, as it has a design that compliments Asus' high-end laptops nicely.

The Asus MB169C+ isn’t quite as portable as Packed Pixels, but its 15.6-inch size makes using it feel more like using a regular monitor. It has a healthy pixel-resolution of 1,920 x 1,080, which is perfect for streaming full HD video, working with two applications side-by-side and even gaming if you have a sufficiently powerful laptop.

The MB169C+ is incredibly simple to use thanks to its USB-C connection, which uses a single cable to transmit video, sound and power. It also comes in a handy protective sleeve that doubles up as a carrying case. Asus’ portable monitor uses an in-plane switching (IPS) display, which brings decent viewing angles making it perfect for watching video with a friend.

Aimed at photographers who need a monitor to take on shoots, the Gechic 1101P features an IPS display like the Asus MB169C+. However, this one is smaller at 11.6 inches and more portable, allowing to be easily attached to a tripod or SLR camera while out in the field.

This full HD display supports 16.7 million colors which can easily be tweaked using the monitor’s onboard color temperature settings, allowing you to get it as close to your camera’s display as possible

The 1101P is also well-connected, featuring support for VGA, micro HDMI and mini DisplayPort. These make it suitable for a number of different use cases – from previewing photos and videos shot on a camera to being used as a normal portable monitor with your laptop.

If you like the sound of the Asus MB169C+ but don’t have a laptop with a USB-C connection, then the Asus MB169B+ is what you need.

This one also connects to your laptop with a single cable, except it uses a regular USB-A port instead. It works with both USB 2.0 and USB 3.0, though you’ll experience noticeably more latency with the former due to its slower data transfer rate.

Still, it features the same alluring slim and lightweight design. Thanks to Asus EzLink tech, which offloads the graphics processing from the PC to dedicated hardware in the monitor, you can even hook up five of them if your laptop has enough USB ports.

This portable monitor from AOC isn’t going to beat either of the Asus models on our list due to its comparatively lower pixel-resolution of 1,600 x 900.

However, its lower resolution means that it’s going to be less taxing on your laptop’s battery life. Taking that into account, and the fact that it’s the largest portable monitor on our list at 17.3 inches, and the E1759Fwu suddenly becomes an interesting option if you’re into streaming video on the move.

And, because it’s a few years old, you’ll pick it up for much less than competing portable monitors. With its thin and light dimensions and glossy black frame, it doesn’t exactly look archaic – it just isn’t as multi-talented as newer and flashier alternatives.

Best external hard drives for Macs in 2020

Posted: 21 May 2020 10:59 AM PDT

Get one of the best external hard drives for Macs instead of customizing that new one you’re in the process of buying to have bigger storage. Upgrading the internal storage on a Mac will cost you a premium, and you’re simply better off buying a more affordable external drive. Even if you have the funds to spend, wouldn’t you rather spend the same amount of money for even more storage capacity?

Besides, if you’ve already bought your Mac and currently trying to upgrade its storage, getting one of the best external hard drives for Mac is your only sensible option. If you don’t know it by now, Macs and MacBooks are not exactly the easiest PCs to upgrade. And, if you’re concerned about portability, don’t be. Some of these external hard drives are not just thin and light, but also designed to be robust so they can handle a few bumps and bangs.

Whether you’re a creative professional who needs a whole lot of space for storing large files, or you simply need an extra hard drive to put all your vacation and family photos in, we’ve got the perfect solution right here. Our picks for the best external hard drives for Mac are simply the best and most affordable way to fix your storage blues.

Western Digital My Passport

Western Digital My Passport offers a good balance between speed, capacity and price.

This is the latest generation of the Western Digital My Passport external hard drives comes in capacities from 1TB to 4TB, and features cloud storage and 256-AES encryption, along with WD's own backup software. While transfer speeds aren't the quickest, due to its USB 3.0 connection, it offers a good balance between speed, capacity and price.

Buffalo MiniStation Thunderbolt

Buffalo MiniStation Thunderbolt keeps the price down.

If you want to make use of your Mac's Thunderbolt port, then this is the best external hard drive for Macs. It provides twice the speeds of standard USB 3.0 drives. It still uses a traditional hard drive, rather than an SSD, and while this means speeds aren't quite as fast as possible, it at least keeps the price down, while offering large capacities. There's also a USB 3.0 port for connecting to computers that don't have a Thunderbolt port.

G-Technology G-Drive USB 3.0

G-Technology G-Drive USB 3.0 protects your data from knocks and drops.

This is one of the fastest high capacity hard drives you can plug into your Mac, with a huge 4TB of storage space that zips along its USB 3.0, eSATA or FireWire connection. The all-aluminium enclosure gives the drive a premium look and feel, while also protecting your data from knocks and drops, and keeping the drive cool when used.

Samsung T3 SSD

Samsung T3 SSD is a super-fast external hard drive for your Mac.

If you really want a super-fast external hard drive for your Mac, then the Samsung T3 SSD is easily one of the best. As it uses a solid state drive, the read and write speeds of this drive are much faster than external hard drives that use traditional hard drives. It does mean the price is higher, but if transfer speed is the most important consideration when looking for the best external hard drive for your Mac, then this is the drive to go for.

Buffalo MiniStation Extreme NFC

Buffalo MiniStation Extreme NFC comes with a rugged case.

With compatibility for both Mac and Windows machines, the Buffalo MiniStation Extreme NFC is very flexible, and comes with a rugged case that's dust and water resistant, along with a built-in USB 3.0 cable. Not only is your data kept protected from knocks and drops with the rugged shell, but it's also got 256-bit AES security features and NFC (Near Field Communication) features as well. This is a great external hard drive for your Mac if you are concerned about keeping your data safe and secure.

Western Digital My Passport Ultra

Western Digital My Passport Ultra features cloud storage and 256-AES encryption.

The latest generation of the Western Digital My Passport Ultra range of external hard drives has landed, coming in sizes from 1TB to 4TB. It features cloud storage and 256-AES encryption, along with WD's own software suite.

It is a good performer when it comes to data transfer speeds but doesn't come near the top of the leaderboard. Unsurprisingly, it doesn't reach the top speeds of solid state external drives, but for external hard drives based on traditional HDDs, this is the drive to consider.

You may have stumbled upon the LaCie Porsche Design Mobile Drive when perusing the Apple website for USB-C accessories. There’s a reason for that: the Porsche Design ships with both USB Type-C to Type-A and USB Type-C to Type-C connectors, making it a worthy candidate regardless of your setup.

It’s expensive for an external hard drive, don’t get us wrong, especially if you’re in the market for the top-end 4TB option. On the other hand, this is an HDD that could theoretically output speeds of up to 5Gbps, if it weren’t hindered by the limits of SMR (Shingled Magnetic Recording) technology. With MacBooks coming with USB Type-C connections, this is an excellent - and stylish - external hard drive that makes the most of this speedy new port.

iStorage diskAshur 2TB

iStorage diskAshur 2TB is encrypted by the 256-bit AES protocol.

If you're worried about people getting access to your data if your external hard drive is stolen, than you'll like the iStorage drive here. If someone tries to tamper with your iStorage drive, you can configure it to self-desturct. What's more, the data is encrypted by the 256-bit AES protocol, with multiple forms of protection in place to ensure the bad guys don't get in no matter how persistent. When you consider all that extra security, the prices won't scare you away either. It's more pricey than the other drives of its capacity, but the extra security it offers will be well worth it for many people.

The best keyboards of 2020: top 10 keyboards compared

Posted: 21 May 2020 10:47 AM PDT

There’s a lot that the best keyboards can do for you besides decking out your rig. It’s not just the big gamers playing the best PC games for hours on end that require a fast and reliable keyboard with all the bells and whistles. Even if what you do on your computer all day long is simply typing up emails and documents for work, these keyboards can actually change your experience for the better – not to mention, save your wrists from a lifetime of pain.

The simple fact is, having an excellent keyboard can make a huge impact in your computing life. These keyboards offer the right bounce, travel and tactile feedback for a much more comfortable and less fatiguing experience. Better yet, they really deliver when it comes to speed, responsiveness and accuracy. And, they also come with a feature set that regular keyboards don’t have like n-key rollover so that each keypress is correctly detected no matter how many keys you press.

The benefits to comfort, speed, reliability and convenience you gain with one of these peripherals easily justifies the asking price, which isn’t much considering what you’re getting. Whether you need one of the best gaming keyboards or something that’s ideal for multi-tasking and creative work, we have the best keyboards of 2020 for you right here.

The best keyboards of 2020 at a glance:

  1. Roccat Vulcan 120 Aimo
  2. Corsair K83 Wireless Entertainment Keyboard
  3. Topre Realforce 104UBS Silent variable
  4. Filco Majestouch-2 Tenkeyless
  5. Logitech Craft
  6. PFU Happy Hacking Professional 2 (HHKB2)
  7. Microsoft Modern Keyboard with Fingerprint ID
  8. Leopold Fc660c
  9. Unicomp Classic 104
  10. Das Keyboard Prime 13
  11. Logitech K780

Roccat Vulcan 120 Aimo

It has become the norm for keyboard manufacturers to implement their own custom keyboard switches, and Roccat – with the Vulcan 120 Aimo – is no different. While this keyboard is primarily marketed as a gaming keyboard, its Titan Switches are tactile enough to be satisfying, while still bouncing back quickly enough to be comfortable to type on for extended periods. And, we’d be remiss to not mention the looks – the Vulcan 120 Aimo looks like a science fiction keyboard, we love it.

If you have a home theater PC, you might be frustrated by the lack of keyboards that explicitly appeal to your use case. Luckily, there’s a keyboard for you – the Corsair K83 Wireless is a fantastic entertainment-focused keyboard. Not only is it light and portable, it also has a bevy of entertainment functions that’ll make life easier in your living room. And, with its wealth of connectivity options, including Bluetooth and 2.4GHz wireless through a dongle, you can use it with many different platforms. However, it’s not great at gaming, so keep that in mind.

Realforce

As long as you don’t mind missing out on some of that signature ‘thock’ sound that’s associated with regular Realforce keyboards, opting for a silenced model like the 104 UBS offers some solid benefits. Hitting the 104 UBS’s keys produces sound on par with a membrane keyboard, so it’s going to be great if you work in a busy office or a shared bedroom. The ‘dampened’ feel of Topre’s silenced switches can feel kind of like typing on sandpaper compared to a non-silenced board, but we found that it’s worth the trade-off if you need a quieter keyboard.

  • This product is only available in the US and UK. Australian readers: check out a fine alternative in the Razer Blackwidow Chroma V2.

Filco

Filco's keyboards tend to be built like tanks, and the Majestouch TKL is no different. This space-saving mechanical keyboard features a compact tenkeyless design that has less than 1cm of space between the edge of the keys and the keyboard. Its durability doesn't simply allow it to stand up well to knocks and scrapes – it has a positive impact on its typing feel too. You can hammer away on it at speed, even bottoming out to your heart's content, and the Majestouch 2 will take every bit of punishment.

We’ve seen all kinds of keyboards over the years here at TechRadar, from stylish tenkeyless keyboards to RGB-laden gaming behemoths, but something has always been missing – a focus on creatives. Thankfully, with the Logitech Craft, this is no longer the case. Not only is this a sturdy, tactile and attractive keyboard but it also features a unique dial on its top left corner, which will help creatives expedite their workflow. This dial’s utility will vary depending on the application, from simply controlling the volume on the desktop, to changing levels in various tools in Photoshop. If you spend a lot of time creating content on your PC, the Logitech Craft is one of the best keyboards you can buy today.

HHKB2

The PFU Happy Hacking Professional 2 has somewhat of a cult following in the keyboard scene, and it’s not hard to see why. This keyboard is aimed at coders, but it’s fantastic for all you writers out there, too. It forgoes traditional arrow keys, instead making use of function keys and key combinations to get that stuff done. It will take a minute to get used to, but once you get that out of the way the small size is a huge benefit, as you’ll be able to take it anywhere you go. Plus, that sweet ‘thock’ sound of the Topre switches is a wonder to behold.

  • This product is only available in the US and UK at the time of this writing. Australian readers: check out a fine alternative in the Das Keyboard Prime 13

You just need to look at Microsoft’s Surface devices to know that they’re kind of killing it when it comes to design, and the Microsoft Modern Keyboard with Fingerprint ID takes things to a whole new level. If you’re running Windows 10, and you’re into the Surface aesthetic, this is easily one of the best keyboards out there. Not only does it feel great, but it also features biometric security, by including a discrete fingerprint scanner right next to the “Alt” key. It is an expensive device, but as with everything Microsoft, you can be sure you’re getting what you’re paying for.

Read the full review: Microsoft Modern Keyboard with Fingerprint ID

FC660C

Leopold's Fc660c is more portable than the Realforce 87u, but less so than the lighter and more compact HHKB2. However, the Fc660c benefits from its extra heft and feels like the more solid board. Despite having the same 45 gram actuation force as the HHKB2, the Leopold's keys feel slightly weightier - somewhere nearer to 50 grams. It results one of the most satisfying "thock" sounds on a Topre board.

  • This product is only available in the US at the time of this writing. UK and Australian readers: check out a fine alternative in the HyperX Alloy Elite

Unicomp

Remember those old IBM Model M keyboards? Well, that’s what the Unicomp Classic 104 seeks to emulate. Available in both USB and PS/2 versions, it uses a buckling spring switch that takes more effort to press than just about every other modern switch. You’re rewarded for this hard pressing with a tactile response that feels like the classic mechanical keyboards of old, along with a noise that will drive everyone around you mad.

Best keyboard

Some keyboards just ooze class, and the Das Keyboard Prime 13 is one of them. Its features a solid aluminum top panel for added rigidity and a very minimalistic look. With Cherry's MX Red or Brown switches under the keycaps, you're given a choice between linear and non-linear offerings with a range of actuation points.

It's a great option for media enthusiasts thanks to side lit media control and the inclusion of white backlighting is another bonus. It's not the most affordable keyboard on our list, but if you're looking for something a little bit more premium, Das is the way to go.

Logitech K780

With its latest keyboard, Logitech is targeting smartphone and tablet owners who prefer to use their device while sat at a desk. And, if you were a fan of the predecessor, the K380, the Logitech K780 should be right up your alley, especially with its added number pad. This keyboard still has the ability to pair with three devices using Bluetooth or wireless, so you can swap between all your gadgets on the fly. And, thanks to its comfortable rounded keycaps, it’s still a pleasure to type on. The keyboard’s base is the star of the show, however, as it can hold mobile devices up to 11.3mm thick in an upright position. This places them within arms’ reach to make anything from replying to WhatsApp messages or reading a digital magazine easier than ever.

How to determine the best keyboard for you

It goes without saying that if you demand the look and feel only mechanical switches can provide, rather than those that are slim and stealthy, we suggest perusing our best gaming keyboards round-up instead.

Gamers prioritize the actuation that clicky feeling mechanical keyboards bring, whereas traditional home and office users are more about practicality. That said, the sheer magnitude of sound produced by a lot of mechanical keyboards is offputting to some. For those folks, we have some membrane keyboards to recommend as well.

Best processors 2020: the best CPUs for your PC from Intel and AMD

Posted: 21 May 2020 10:46 AM PDT

If you want a powerful PC, one of the best processors on the market is the way to go. The faster and more powerful your CPU is, the better your computer’s performance and power efficiency will be. And, you’ll certainly see and feel the difference, whether you’re only browsing the web and streaming movies after work or actually taking on processor-hungry tasks on a daily basis.

Lucky for you, now’s a great time to invest in a powerful processor. Thanks to the fiery competition between Intel and AMD, with AMD rolling out its Ryzen 3rd generation processors, and Intel releasing its Coffee Lake Refresh and Ice Lake chips, the CPU market is teeming with the best processors with the most competitive prices we’ve seen to date. You can hardly throw a stone without hitting an impressive processor that does the job and more.

To help you find the best processor for your needs, we gathered the top CPUs 2020 has to offer. Whatever your budget is and however demanding your computing needs are, you’ll find something here that will suit you.

AMD Ryzen 9 3900X

The AMD Ryzen 9 3900X isn’t just AMD’s best mainstream processor right now; it’s also currently the king of all mainstream processors. With multi-threaded performance that destroys everything in its path to start, you won’t find a processor more impressive without stepping up to the HEDT market. Sure, there are some workloads where the Intel Core i9-9900K will still come out better, like with old games that are completely single threaded. However, thanks to this chip, the gap is definitely starting to narrow.

Read the full review: AMD Ryzen 9 3900X

AMD Ryzen 9 3950X

The highest tier in the Ryzen 3000 series is the performance powerhouse you’re looking for, if you want something for heavily threaded computer work. Besides high-end gaming, the Ryzen 9 3950 also blasts through processing tasks. It’s expensive, but for a mainstream processor that can go toe-to-toe with HEDT processors, that’s hardly a surprise. And, it’s also well worth the price, if you need its level of performance. Just remember that it may take a bit to keep cool so be sure to follow AMD’s guidance.

Read the full review: AMD Ryzen 9 3950X

AMD Ryzen 5 3600X

With more threads than the Intel Core i5-9600K, this mid-range graphics card delivers impressive multi-threading performance. However, the AMD Ryzen 5 3600X doesn’t just stop there: it takes that budget-minded stage of performance to a new level, with its increased IPC (instructions per clock) performance and a higher clock speed while staying at the same price point. It also stays competitive in even the most intense single-threaded applications.

Read the full review: AMD Ryzen 5 3600X

AMD Ryzen 3 3100

Budget-minded consumers who missed out on all the 3rd-generation Ryzen excitement the first time will appreciate AMD’s latest attempt in the entry-level sphere. There’s no denying that the AMD Ryzen 3 3100 is appealingly cheap, but it does so without compromising on performance. In fact, this chip delivers a performance that could almost rival that of processors double its price, without sucking up much power. And, it’s an excellent choice for budget gamers who are looking for something that can handle 1080p gaming.

Read the full review: AMD Ryzen 3 3100

AMD Ryzen 3 3300X

It’s releases like the AMD Ryzen 3 3300X that really push gaming PCs forward. This processor may not technically beat the likes of Ryzen 9 3900X and the Intel Core i9-9900K, but its excellent performance, coupled with its affordability, brings downs the barrier to entry on heavy multi-threaded performance. Suddenly, people don’t have to break the bank to experience what it’s like to have top-end hardware powering their PCs. Is it a wonder that the AMD Ryzen 3 3300X is one of our favorite CPU releases in 2020?

Read the full review: AMD Ryzen 3 3300X

Intel Core i5-10600K

Mid-range buyers will appreciate the fact that they actually don’t have to shell out quite a bit of cash for Intel’s hyper-threading technology. With Intel’s Core i5-10600K offering, it’s possible to have it for much less than $500. This chip may lack PCIe 4.0 support and has a higher power consumption, but it makes up for those in spades. Besides hyper-threading, this processor also delivers superb multi-core performance as well as improved single-core performance. What’s more is that it’s got great thermals to keep that pesky heat down.

Read the full review: Intel Core i5-10600K

AMD Ryzen 7 3700X

The single-threaded performance of the AMD Ryzen 7 3700X admittedly still falls behind Intel, but what matters most in video editing and rendering is how a chip does with multi-threaded workloads. If you’re building a computer that can handle your video editing demands, this chip is an absolute beast and our top pick for video editing. That’s not all: this AMD chip offers impressive performance and a Wraith Spire cooler at a very affordable price.

Read the full review: AMD Ryzen 7 3700X

AMD Ryzen Threadripper 3960X

Launched alongside the even more potent Ryzen Threadripper 3970X, the AMD Ryzen Threadripper 3960X may have the same core count as its predecessor. However, it comes with a brand-new architecture that delivers performance gains as well as PCIe 4.0, making it among the best Threadripper chips yet. The 3960X delivers dramatically improved single-threaded performance and has successfully reduced its predecessors’ idiosyncrasies that affect their own performance. It may come with a higher price tag and require the TRX40 motherboard – not to mention, a powerful cooler – but it’s certainly worth the fuss if you can maximize its skills to your advantage.

AMD Athlon 300GE

Whether you’re looking for a processor for your media center or for your desktop PC, the AMD Athlon 300GE is among the best value performers you can find on the market today. It’s reliable and surprisingly fast for what it can do. It’s never going to deliver a breathtaking performance, but for a processor in the budget space, it’s definitely going to impress you.

AMD Ryzen 5 3400G

With a noticeable, if small, performance advantage over its predecessor, AMD’s Ryzen 5 3400G is a capable option for your home theater PC and budget gaming computer. That means that it’s an affordable alternative to folks who don’t quite take gaming as seriously as the big gamers, touting a solid 720 and a fairly decent 1080p gaming performance.

How to watch Gangs of London: stream the gangland drama online anywhere

Posted: 21 May 2020 10:34 AM PDT

Up for a journey into the hidden heart of the UK capital? Then Sky's hard-hitting and record-breaking new crime drama is what you need in your life - read on to find out how to watch Gangs of London from anywhere in the world, including free streaming details for every episode.

This week, that means it's episode 5 airing on Sky - and it has been lauded by critics as the best in the series, so we know you won't want to miss it.

Created by The Raid director Gareth Evans and his cinematography partner Matt Flannery, this big-budget Sky/HBO Cinemax co-production is far from the straight-to-video fare we've come to expect from British gangster films.

The story takes off as crime lord Finn Wallace (Colm Meaney) is shot dead under mysterious circumstances, causing the network of alliances between London’s underworld to be be ruptured.

Amidst the turmoil, Wallace’s heir Sean sets out to avenge his father and mentor, whatever the cost. He's played by Joe Cole, who you may recognize from Peaky Blinders - despite the London-setting, it's not the former West Ham United footballer. Also on the cast is Michelle Fairley as Marian Wallace, and it's another stellar outing from the actress perhaps best known as Catelyn Stark in Game of Thrones.

Keep read as we explain how to watch Gangs on London online no matter where you are in the world - including the best free viewing options.

How to watch Gangs of London for FREE in the UK

How to watch Gangs of London from outside your country

As Gangs of London is a Sky Atlantic exclusive, anyone from the UK who's currently abroad won't find it being aired simultaneously in places like the USA, Canada or Australia. Moreover, trying to tune into Sky Atlantic like you would from home will likely be impossible because of geo-blocking restrictions.

We know that this might not be a likely scenario for many, due to coronavirus travel restrictions, but the fact is people are still being required to travel - and some are even regrettably stuck abroad during this difficult time.

Fortunately, there is a solution in the form of a VPN. This nifty bit of software changes your IP address so that you can access all the content you normally would at home, from anywhere in the world.

However, note that some services require you to verify local credit card or cable subscription details before gaining access, so make sure you have these to hand before signing up for anything.

Read on and we'll tell you how to watch Rick and Morty season 4 online for free - including where you can stream all of part 2 anywhere, including the all-new episode 8 this week.

Yes, the bizarre show has now returned to help us get through some equally bizarre times. The part 2 trailer promised us all the unpredictability and madcap adventures we've come to expect from the show, including manga-style superhero outfits, electrocutions, and light sabres. Take your Samsung TV outdoors with this weatherproof QLED display

Posted: 21 May 2020 10:22 AM PDT

Samsung has announced a new series of weatherproof 4K QLED TVs that will launch today in the US and Canada, and later this year in Germany, Australia and New Zealand.

Dubbed ‘The Terrace’, the series is part of Samsung’s lineup of lifestyle TVs like The Frame, The Serif and The Sero that was introduced at this year’s CES.

Unlike the other Samsung TVs, though, The Terrace takes some specs from Samsung’s mid-range QLED TVs – like their 2,000-nit peak brightness, 120Hz panels and HDR-compatible QLED screens – and encases them in an IP55 rating enclosure that’s only around 59mm deep.

In order to get content to the TV, Samsung says The Terrace has a built-in HDBaseT receiver as well as Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. The TV also uses Samsung’s Tizen operating system with Samsung TV Plus that offers over 120 channels of free shows and movies.

Samsung says the series will be available in 55-, 65-and 75-inch models that will cost $3,499 (around £2,800, AU$5,300), $4,999 (around £4,000, AU$7,600) and $6,499 (around £5,300, AU$9,900), respectively.

Outdoor movie night? Don’t forget the speakers

Alongside The Terrace, Samsung is rolling out a series of outdoor-ready soundbars, appropriately dubbed The Terrace Soundbar.

Like The Terrace, the soundbar is IP55 weatherproof and was made by the same audio lab in California that produced the award-winning Samsung M650 Soundbar and contains a lot of the same features like the distortion cancelling technology.

The soundbar can either be mounted to a wall or directly to The Terrace, and can be connected to the TV via Bluetooth for a cord-free finish.

The Terrace Soundbar is on sale today for $1,199 (around £980, AU$1,800).

Couldn't get a beta key? Valorant will launch on June 2 for the rest of us

Posted: 21 May 2020 10:16 AM PDT

Riot Games announced today that Valorant, their highly-anticipated 5v5 team-based shooter, will officially launch on June 2.

The latest game from the League of Legends developer has been in closed beta since April, but that hasn't stopped the game from dominating the esports conversation for weeks now.

Invitations to the closed beta test were given out to those who hooked up their Riot Games accounts with their Twitch accounts and who watched Valorant Twitch streams over the last few weeks. Naturally, that's a good way to get eyeballs on your game, and the game generated a hell of a lot of buzz in very short order. So much so, it's drawn in a number of established esports players from rival Overwatch.

If you haven't been a part of Valorant's closed beta, don't worry, everyone starts fresh on June 2, according to Riot Games. Riot Games has also been working to upscale their infrastructure in preparation for the game's general release.

What can we expect on launch day?

According to Riot Games, things could be a bit dicey.

"New datacenters are already being stood up to service player demand in areas where latency isn’t meeting our standards," the company said in a press release. "On our current short-term roadmap is to get new game server deployments in Warsaw, Madrid, London, Atlanta, and Dallas. We’re also not satisfied with latency in Colombia, Argentina, and Eastern Europe—looking at options there."

The company is hoping to get most players to below 35ms ping on their servers, but some regions like India and the Middle East will have to wait for datacenters close enough to achieve that kind of latency. The game will still launch worldwide on June 2nd though, high ping or no.

"You’ll have higher latencies than we’d like," the company said, "but we figured you’d want to play the game as soon as possible."

Given the anticipation around Valorant, that might be the understatement of the year.

Best Intel processors 2020: the best CPUs from Team Blue

Posted: 21 May 2020 10:05 AM PDT

Get that new gaming PC you’re building up and running with one of the best Intel processors 2020 has to offer. If you’re looking to choose among the best processors to buy, there are no better chips for gaming PCs than Intel.

For years, Intel processors have been some of the best for gaming, thanks to their high IPC (instructions per clock) performance paired with high clock speeds. However, you’ll find Intel processors in more than just a gaming rig. Intel Basin Falls Refresh processors currently rule the HEDT (high-end desktop) space, with high-performance processors (at an equally high cost) that are perfect for serious creatives and professionals. And, even though the debate between AMD Vs Intel is raging hotter than ever, the recently-launched Intel Comet Lake-S is taking the fight to the extremely popular AMD Ryzen processors in the desktop domain.

No matter what kind of CPU you’re looking for, Intel has you covered. Let’s take a look at all the best Intel processors 2020 has to offer. Spend less time shopping around and more time building. With our price comparison tool included, you’ll even score the best deals available.

Intel Core i7-10700K

Regarded as among the best gaming CPUs on the market right now, the Intel Core i7-10700K not only offers hyperthreading, with 5.1Ghz overclocking on all its 8 cores, but it’s also takes the great things about the i9-9900K and improves on its failings with higher clock rates, better thermal performance and a more affordable price. It may require a beefier cooling solution, but it’s still the chip to beat if you’re looking to upgrade to the 10th-generation and have the money to spare.

Intel Pentium Gold G5400

Whether you’re building a home theater that doesn’t require a chip with a lot of power or you’re building a PC on a tight budget, the Pentium Gold G5400 is a good Intel processor to consider. With its new affordable price tag and a great light multi-threaded performance, this one is the best choice at its price point. Pair it with a powerful graphics card, and you’ll be good to go.

Intel Core i9-10980XE

With a sheer price drop, a higher boost clock and some performance improvements over the i9-9980XE, the Intel Core i9-10980XE is a truly worthy successor of the Extreme Edition line. That refined 14nm process not only affords it better performance, but also lower power consumption. Better yet, it has that sheer overclocking capabilities like no other. It’s still plenty next to its rival AMD chips, but if overclocking is a huge factor to you, this one’s worth its premium price tag.

Home Chef hacked, eight million users have data breached

Posted: 21 May 2020 10:03 AM PDT

The US-based meal kit and food delivery service Home Chef has announced that it suffered a data breach after a hacker sold 8m of its user records on the dark web.

As reported by BleepingComputer, a hacking group called Shiny Hunters was recently selling the user records of eleven companies on a dark web marketplace from $500 to $5,000 depending on the number of records each database contained.

Home Chef was one of the eleven companies and the hackers claimed to have 8m of its user records available for sale for just $2,500. They also provided a sample of the type of information available in the database for potential buyers.

This information included users' email addresses, encrypted passwords, the last for digits of their credit cards, gender, age, subscription information and more.

Home Chef data breach

Home Chef has now officially acknowledged that it suffered a data breach in a data security incident notice posted on its web site, which reads:

“Protection of customer data is a top priority for Home Chef, and we work hard to safeguard our customers’ information. We recently learned of a data security incident impacting select customer information, including names and emails, as well as limited customer account information and encrypted passwords. We are taking action to investigate this situation and to strengthen our information security defenses to prevent similar incidents from happening in the future.”

According to Home Chef, affected customers' had their email addresses, names, phone numbers, encrypted passwords and the last four digits of their credit card numbers exposed. Other account information such as frequency of deliveries and mailing addresses may have also been compromised.

Although the passwords leaked in the data breach were encrypted, hackers could still be able to decrypt them which is why all Home Chef customers should change their passwords immediately.

Bundesliga live stream: how to watch every match as Germany restarts top-tier football

Posted: 21 May 2020 09:56 AM PDT

Germany's Bundesliga restarted on Saturday, May 16 and there's now some much-needed light at the end of the tunnel for football fans all over the world. As the first major European league to resume its 2019/20 season following the Covid-19 pandemic, all eyes on the title race in Deutschland - and we know you're as excited as we are to see quality live sport aired at the weekends, just like it used to be. So, let's kick-off the run-in already and explain how to live stream the Bundesliga and watch every match from anywhere.

As a quick primer, the Bundesliga is Germany's top-tier domestic football league and things are delicately poised as the fixture list resumes this May. When the coronavirus forced the league to stop play at the beginning of March, Bayern Munich sat atop the Bundesliga table but they're being hotly chased by Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig.

Borussia Mönchengladbach also lurk dangerously, as do Bayer Leverkusen. It's safe to say that this year's Bundesliga season could well go down to the wire and there's plenty of drama left - not just for fans of German football, but for lovers of the beautiful game everywhere.

With that in mind, here's how to watch a Bundesliga live stream no matter where you are in the world, including free viewing options. Follow our guide below and you'll never miss a goal again - or pay a penny you don't have to.

How to watch Bundesliga football from outside your country

If you're abroad and can't bear to miss out on the big Bundesliga restart, don't worry. While you may initially encounter a problem watching your usual domestic coverage in the form of geo-blocking, there's an easy solution to this common annoyance.

It's called a VPN and it's a clever bit of software that relocates your device back to your country of origin - thereby allowing you to regain access to the services you normally use (and almost certainly pay for) back home.

How to get a FREE Bundesliga live stream in Germany

Sky Sports has the broadcast rights to the Bundesliga in Germany and it's going big on the restart, announcing that Saturday mid-afternoon fixtures for the first two weekends will be available to watch for free - both online and on TV - in Deutschland and neighbouring Austria.

This means its never been easier to watch the Bundesliga for free! Matches will be available to watch for free on German TV on the Sky Sports News HD channel, but even more conveniently online via the German Sky Sports website.

The Sky Sports News HD Bundesliga live stream is like a constant highlight reel, cutting between matches at the most opportune times so you never miss a moment of the action.

The eligible fixtures for Saturday, May 16 are:

  • Borussia Dortmund vs Schalke
  • TSG Hoffenheim vs Hertha BSC
  • RB Leipzig vs Freiburg
  • Fortuna Düsseldorf vs SC Paderborn
  • FC Augsburg vs VfL Wolfsburg

Anyone from Germany currently abroad may find they can't access the streaming services they normally would at home. This is because of geo-blocking, but as we've said there's a very easy solution in the form of a VPN.

VPNs aren't foolproof, though, and content can still get blocked even if you're relocated your device back home. Based on our experience, this is the exception rather than the rule, but it's worth being aware of - and one of the main reasons we recommend ExpressVPN, as it offers 24/7 customer support to help you solve any server woes you may encounter.

Alternatively, try entering your browser's private or Incognito mode - this is often all it takes to fix remote connection issues.

Intel Comet Lake release date, news and features

Posted: 21 May 2020 09:39 AM PDT

Intel Comet Lake mobile processors are now out in the world, finally making their way into the best Ultrabooks in late 2019. And now in 2020, they’re bringing the fight to AMD Ryzen 4000, with chips making their way to gaming laptops and workstations.

Keeping track of Intel’s releases is already confusing enough – looking at you, Cannon Lake – and its 10th-generation Comet Lake processors have really taken things to a new level. Designed alongside Intel’s Ice Lake processors for laptops, these chips were released around the same time as Ice Lake, with the two altogether making up Intel’s 10th-generation Core lineup. The only major difference is the manufacturing process, with Ice Lake being the first 10nm processors Intel has put out in the mainstream and part of Project Athena, and Comet Lake being yet another iteration of the 14nm Skylake architecture.

On top of that, there are also the Comet Lake-S processors for desktop. After being the subject of speculation for months, these desktop processors are now officially launched – led by the Intel Core i9-10900K and the surprisingly robust for the price i5-10600K. And, they are now on the latest PCs, with Asus and MSI being the first ones to unveil Intel Comet Lake-S Z490 motherboards.

Since there’s already a mouthful of information out there about Intel Comet Lake, let us help you make sense of it all. We’ve broken Intel Comet Lake range down for you, covering everything from rumors and speculations about future additions to the lineup to all the official news from Intel. Keep this page bookmarked, as we'll update it with any new information that comes our way.

 Cut to the chase

  • What is it? Intel’s 10th-generation mobile platform
  • When is it out? Both mobile and desktop processors are out now
  • What will it cost? Depends on the laptop

Intel Comet Lake

We still don't know when we'll actually see Comet Lake-S desktop chips.

Intel Comet Lake release date

Intel pushed out its 10th-generation Comet Lake processors for laptops back in August, with the actual laptops filtering out over the following months. On top of those, Intel has announced early April the full lineup of Comet Lake-H processors, which will be the high-performance chips that will be found in gaming laptops this year. That means we will be seeing those chips out in the wild in the next few months.

As for the Comet Lake-S desktop chips, Intel launched them on April 30, and they’re now available for purchase. It won’t be long until we’ll see them inside many PCs soon. In fact, the latest Alienware Aurora, R11, already has the i9-10900KF chip inside.

Intel Comet Lake

We might not see Intel launching its latest flagship mainstream desktop processors before Q4.

Intel Comet Lake price

Now that the Comet Lake processors for laptops are out, the price tag for each chip is also finally available. We’ve listed them out for you below so you can decide whether or not to upgrade. These are Intel’s recommended price for every Comet Lake chip:

  • Intel Core i7-10710U – $443 (about £340, AU$635)
  • Intel Core i7-10510U – $409 (about £315, AU$585)
  • Intel Core i5-10210U – $297 (about £230, AU$425)
  • Intel Core i3-10110U – $281 (about £215, AU$405)

With laptop pricing, though, it’s important to keep in mind that these aren’t prices that consumers will ever see. Instead, it’s a suggested price that Intel gives to its distributors, which can charge above or below this price to laptop manufacturers. These prices will generally be worked into the overall price of the laptop, but these numbers can still give a decent idea of which segment of the laptop market each chip falls into.

As far as Intel Comet Lake-S processors, these are Intel’s recommended prices for each:

  • Intel Core i9-10900K – $488 (about £395/A$765)
  • Intel Core i9-10900KF – $472 (about £380/A$740)
  • Intel Core i9-10900 – $439 (about £355/A$690)
  • Intel Core i9-10900F – $422 (about £340/A$660)
  • Intel Core i7-10700K – $374 (about £302/A$585)
  • Intel Core i7-10700KF – $349 (about £280/A$545)
  • Intel Core i7-10700 – $323 (about £260/A$505)
  • Intel Core i7-10700F – $298 (about £240/A$465)
  • Intel Core i5-10600K – $262 (about £215/A$410)
  • Intel Core i5-10600KF – $237 (about £190/A$370)
  • Intel Core i5-10600 – $213 (about £170/A$335)
  • Intel Core i5-10500 – $192 (about £155/A$300)
  • Intel Core i5-10400 – $182 (about £150/A$285)
  • Intel Core i5-10400F – $157 (about £130/A$245)
  • Intel Core i3-10320 – $154 (about £125/A$240)
  • Intel Core i3-10300 – $143 (about £115/A$225)
  • Intel Core i3-10100 – $122 (about £98/A$190)

These are about on par with Coffee Lake Refresh prices below, with some differences here and there that are pretty negligible.

  • Intel Core i9-9900K – $488 (£519, AU$899)
  • Intel Core i7-9700K – $374 (£409, AU$659)
  • Intel Core i7-9700 – $323 (about £250, AU$450)

  • Intel Core i3-9320 – $154 (about £118, AU$215)
  • Intel Core i3-9300 – $143 (about £110, AU$199)
  • Intel Core i3-9100 – $122 (about £90, AU$170)
  • Intel Core i3-9100F – $122 (about £90, AU$170)

Intel Comet Lake

Now that the Comet Lake processors for laptops are out, the price tag for each chip is also finally available.

Intel Comet Lake specs

Comet Lake is yet another iteration of Intel’s 14nm manufacturing process. This means that there isn’t much improvement in the way of power efficiency, and thermals will probably start to ramp up. We haven't got a chance to test each of these processors yet, but we expect the difference over 8th-generation Whiskey Lake chips to be pretty minor – aside from the Intel Core i7-10710U, of course, which boasts is a 6-core (12-thread) processor with a boost of up to 4.7GHz.

We've got all the specs of the Intel Comet Lake Mobile chips here:

  • Intel Core i7-10710U – 6-cores, 12-threads | 12MB Cache | 1.1GHz base / 4.7GHz boost
  • Intel Core i7-10510U – 4-cores, 8-threads | 8MB Cache | 1.8GHz base / 4.9GHz boost
  • Intel Core i5-10210U – 4-cores, 8-threads | 6MB Cache | 1.6GHz base / 4.2GHz boost
  • Intel Core i3-10110U – 2-cores, 4-threads | 4MB Cache | 2.1GHz base / 4.1GHz boost

These may look very similar to Whiskey Lake, but with some higher clock speeds. The biggest differences here, though, are the inclusion of Wi-Fi 6 compatibility and Thunderbolt 3 on the die.

As far as Comet Lake-S desktop processors go, there’s a noticeable increase in cores, threads and turbo speeds that’s reflected across the new Comet Lake-S lineup. What's perhaps most notable is the Core i7-10700K, which still has that massive 125W TDP, but offers 8 cores and 16 threads with a 5.1GHz turbo. That’s a higher spec than the 9900K

Here are the Comet Lake-S processors specs, with a noticeable increase in TDP across the board – even the Intel Core i5-10600K has a 125W TDP – which means increased heat:

  • Core i9-10900K: 10 Cores, 20 threads | 3.7GHz base, 5.3GHz boost | 125W TDP
  • Core i9-10900: 10 cores, 20 threads | 2.8GHz base, 5.1GHz boost | 65W TDP
  • Core i7-10700K: 8 cores, 16 threads | 3.8GHz base, 5.1GHz boost | 125W TDP
  • Core i7-10700: 8 cores, 16 threads | 2.9GHz base, 4.8GHz boost | 65W TDP
  • Core i5-10600K: 6 cores, 12 threads | 4.1GHz base, 4.8GHz boost | 125W TDP
  • Core i5-10600: 6 cores, 12 threads | 3.3GHz base, 4.8GHz boost | 65W TDP
  • Core i5-10500: 6 cores, 12 threads | 3.1GHz base, 4.5GHz boost | 65W TDP
  • Core i5-10400: 6 cores, 12 threads | 2.9GHz base, 4.3GHz boost | 65W TDP
  • Core i3-10320: 4 cores, 8 threads | 3.8GHz base, 4.6GHz boost | 65W TDP
  • Core i3-10300: 4 cores, 8 threads | 3.7GHz base, 4.4GHz boost | 65W TDP
  • Core i3-10100: 4 cores, 8 threads | 3.6GHz base, 4.3GHz boost | 65W TDP

We’ve had a chance to test both the Intel Core i9-10900K and the Intel Core i5-10600K. A benchmark leak hinted that the Intel Core i9-10900K will deliver an almost 30% leap in performance. Unfortunately, while it does come with two extra cores over 2018's Core i9-9900K, along with boost clocks that reach 5.3GHz across one or two cores, it actually loses ground to the 9900K in terms of raw gaming performance.

It’s the Intel Core i5-10600K that actually proved to be an impressive contender, especially next to AMD’s affordable offerings. It delivers excellent multi-core performance and an improved single-core performance, making it a great value for mid-range consumers, especially those looking to do more than just gaming.

Not that this came as a surprise. We’ve already gotten a preview of how these might compare to AMD Ryzen 3000, which shows that Intel will have to offer some competitive prices for its Comet Lake-S chips to keep up with AMD. Leaked benchmarks for the i7-10700K, i5-10600K and i5-10600KF show off their single-core performance, unsurprisingly outmatching their respective AMD rivals.

Civilization VI is now free on Epic Games Store – could Borderlands: The Handsome Collection be next?

Posted: 21 May 2020 09:33 AM PDT

Civilization VI is the latest high-profile PC game to be given away by the Epic Games Store, following hot on the carjacking heels of Grand Theft Auto V.

Sid Meier’s strategy epic is another pretty incredible freebie which is available to grab now, and will be until May 28. All you need to do is head on over to the Epic Games Store, where you must have an account and have turned on two-factor authentication.

Civilization VI was released four years ago to considerable acclaim, with many critics praising the depth of its strategy, and indeed our sister site PC Gamer announcing that it was the ‘ultimate digital board game’ no less.

And while Civilization VI might have previously set you back $60 or £50 at the recommended price, you can now get it for nothing, which is obviously a pretty massive steal for anyone with a passing interest in strategy games yet to pick it up.

Leak comes good

Those of you who have been following leaks around the Epic Games Store might recall that a purported list of the next free games was floated around on Reddit recently, although it was widely considered to be fake (and we’ve got to admit, it did look and seem somewhat dodgy).

However, that list contended that after GTA V we would get Civ VI on May 21, and obviously that’s exactly what has happened. So, that being the case, while we are still rather cautious about treating the rest of this leak as gospel, if it is correct, the next freebie arriving on May 28 will be Borderlands: The Handsome Collection. Ark Survival Evolved will allegedly follow that on June 4.

Epic must be getting a lot of folks signing up for accounts with free games of this calibre, for sure, particularly given the amount of people that have a good deal of time on their hands at the moment due to coronavirus lockdowns.

The store also has a big sale on at the moment with a lot of reductions on various titles, and a $10 (£10) off coupon on top of those discounts (plus the coupon can be repeatedly applied).

Google Maps update adds new wheelchair-friendly feature - here's how to get it

Posted: 21 May 2020 09:30 AM PDT

A new Google Maps update is bringing a feature to aid those in wheelchairs, as it will now list accessible places within the app.

Available starting from May 21, 2020 and rolling out gradually, the new "Accessible Places" feature will be an option users will be able to turn on, "to have wheelchair accessibility information more prominently displayed in search results and in Google Maps."

The update arrives in line with Global Accessibility Awareness Day, which aims "to get everyone talking, thinking and learning about digital access/inclusion and people with different disabilities."

If you opt to turn Accessible Places on, wheelchair accessible locations with be highlight by a wheelchair icon.

At launch, the new Accessible Places feature on Google Maps has accessibility information for more than 14 million places around the world.

How to get 'Accessible Places' on Google Maps

Initially, Accessible Places for Google Maps is gradually rolling out for users in Australia, Japan, the United Kingdom and the United States from May 21. Google says support for more countries is on the way, but hasn't provide a timeline or any further details.

To get wheelchair accessibility information more prominently displayed in Google Maps, follow these steps:

  1. Visit the Apple App Store (iPhone) or Google Play Store (Android) and update Google Maps to the latest version
  2. Open the Google Maps app on your device
  3. Go to Settings, select 'Accessibility', and turn on 'Accessible Places'

Accommodation for Covid-19 responders

Google has added another new feature to Maps and Search, with key and essential workers now able to search for safe, discounted accommodation in the US and UK.

It means these workers can easily find hotels with special policies for Covid-19 responders – like free or discounted rooms.

Typing in "hotels for essential workers in New York" for example, or simply "hotels in New York" will now bring up a new filter option ("Covid-19 responder rooms"), allowing you to narrow the results.
