Microsoft Edge update wants to kill off web spam

Posted: 11 May 2020 01:16 PM PDT

Browser notification dialog boxes are an annoying way for websites to push their content or even spam on users which is why Microsoft Edge is now giving users the ability to hide them.

Google first introduced browser notifications for Chrome back in 2013 and other browser makers quickly followed suit. These notifications pop up when a user visits a website for the first time and ask if they would like to sign up to receive notifications regarding new content.

Unfortunately though, spam websites have begun to abuse this feature by forcing users to accept to show browser notifications before allowing them to play a video, download a file or even view a site's content.

If a user does accept the subscription, these scam sites then begin sending a steady stream of unwanted advertisements for online dating sites, browser extensions, adult sites, games and sometimes even malware.

Hiding browser notifications in Edge

Microsoft Edge has debuted a new feature called “Quiet notification requests” that allows users to block all browser notification dialogs from being displayed.

Interested users can test out this feature for themselves in the Microsoft Edge Beta 83 by opening Edge settings and going to the Site permissions / Notifications section where they can enable Quiet notification requests.

With the feature enabled, Microsoft Edge will hide all browser notification dialogs and will instead display a small bell icon in the address bar. To see a notification, users can click on the bell which will show a dialog that allows them to decide if they wish to allow notifications or not.

By blocking browser notification dialogs, Microsoft will effectively kill off a great deal of web spam and make browsing the internet less annoying for Edge users. While Quiet notification requests are still in beta, expect them to get rolled out in a stable release of the software giant's Chromium-based browser soon.

Best small business routers 2020: top routers for work

Posted: 11 May 2020 01:07 PM PDT

If you're looking for the best small business routers money can buy, then you've come to the right place. In this guide we look at the best routers for small and medium-sized businesses. Any of them are also perfect for home offices as well.

When looking for the best small business router for your needs, you don't have to worry about it being able to handle huge amounts of network traffic, but you'll still need something that has enough power to handle a number of employees and devices accessing the network 24/7.

Modern routers now often come with dual or even triple band connectivity, as well as a slew of other features usually found on far more expensive enterprise-grade models, while costing considerably less.

The complexity and requirements of running a wireless network these days mean that the best small business routers now have a much more varied feature set, as well as including hardware that’s often found in computers.

The best small business routers should be quick to set up and easy to use and maintain, which means you won't need a dedicated IT team or administrator, which is good news for smaller businesses. All the powerful features found on this list of best small business routers will be easily accessible through an easy-to-use user interface, accessed either through a PC or mobile device.

The best small business routers on this list have all been carefully picked by us due to their security, support, remote access, business grade VPN, WAN redundancy, connectivity options and scalability features, which are more important to business users than things like raw speed, value or QoS features.

Best small business routers

Asus has a reputation for manufacturing great consumer products and the Taiwanese firm – known for its laptops and motherboards – has been trying its hand at wireless products. The BRT-AC828 is its only business router and the device ticks a lot of boxes, even for small businesses looking for more than 10 simultaneous connections.

Granted, it is excruciatingly expensive but packs the sort of features you’d never expect from a router like an M.2 slot to plug in an SSD to convert it into a mini-NAS. There’s a lot more here including support for RADIUS, the ability to aggregate four 1Gb Ethernet ports into a virtual 4Gb one (it has a mighty eight Gigabit Ethernet ports in all) and even support for LTE as a backup connection to improve resilience – the router already has two 1Gbps WAN ports that can be aggregated or used independently.

As you’d expect from a top of the range router, it offers 4x4 MU-MIMO and theoretical speeds of up to 2.6Gbps with open plan coverage up to 100m (albeit on the 2.4GHz band). Asus has also partnered with Trend Micro to offer a built-in security package called AIProtection.

Best small business routers: Netgear Orbi Pro overview

If you work in an office, and you’re ready to bring your networking into the modern age with one of the best routers for businesses, you seriously need to check out the Netgear Orbi Pro. It's a modular Wi-Fi mesh system, but it makes some design and performance changes that specifically cater to the business user. It’s not cheap, but if you run a business where you can’t afford anyone slowing down due to slow Wi-Fi, it’s worth every penny.

Netgear Orbi WiFi 6

If your small business is ready to jump on the Wi-Fi 6 bandwagon, the Orbi WiFi 6 is your best bet. It’s not by any means a casual purchase, with its steep price tag, but if you’re looking to upgrade to a faster and more reliable router to cover a massive space – like which makes it ideal for medium size businesses, or any business that has a large office full of internet-connected devices – then this one’s absolutely worth the money.

Plus, it’s easy and straightforward to setup, making it great for people who don’t have too much experience with Wi-Fi networks.

Asus RT-AX88U

Asus RT-AX88U has 8 LAN ports.

The Asus RT-AX88U has all the bells and whistles that you could want out of a small business router, including Wi-Fi 6 compatibility.

And, it’s because it offers so much while resting on the lower end of the current Wi-Fi 6 router price range, it makes it one of the best small business routers money can buy right now.

One advantage of this router for small businesses is that it comes with 8 LAN ports. At twice the amount the most other routers carry, the RT-AX88U can save you from having to buy an Ethernet switch.

Best small business routers: Netgear Nighthawk X10

Technically speaking, the Nighthawk X10 is a consumer router but like the Asus model above, it offers features that you will usually find on business routers. As technically advanced as most routers on this list, it is rated at 2600Mbps using 4x4 MU-MIMO and has plenty of LAN ports – seven Gigabit ones, in fact. You can aggregate a pair of them to reach 2Gbps and there’s even a 10G LAN SPF+ connector for NAS access (assuming you’ve got a device that supports this technology).

Add in a pair of USB 3.0 ports and some powerful hardware (quad-core ARM processor clocked at 1.7GHz, 1GB RAM and 512MB storage) and you can see why this Netgear router will appeal to businesses as well as enthusiast-level consumers.

Its most intriguing feature, though, has to be support for 802.11ad which is a short range, high-speed connectivity that requires line of sight to work properly. Also known as WiGig, it operates in the 60GHz spectrum and aims to replace wires altogether.

One unexpected goodie included with the router is a 6-month subscription to Amazon Cloud Drive (double check which one, though, as Amazon killed the ‘unlimited’ tier mentioned in the marketing literature) and that’s a great bonus for backup purposes.

Best small business routers

The Synology RT2600ac is what you get when you fuse a traditional wireless router with a network-attached storage device or NAS (well, it gives you a bit more besides, too). The company is mostly known for its NAS boxes and while the modem doesn’t boast the beefiest specs or even a conventionally attractive shell like most of the competition, the RT2600ac packs a ton of features (like built-in VPN and the ability to aggregate two WAN ports) that make it worth your while.

While it only has 4GB of storage built-in, you can connect an external hard drive and configure your own cloud service similar to Google Drive or Microsoft OneDrive. You can even download a selection of NAS-grade apps like a VPN client and server. Unfortunately, the app selection is sparse at the moment, and the ecosystem needs better community support – which hopefully it’ll get going forward.

Though it’s not exactly fool-proof in terms of its setup process and the more complex functions it offers, the Synology RT2600ac is much more accessible than most NAS devices. Bear in mind that this is only Synology’s second attempt at devising a router of its own, so despite some shortcomings here, there’s plenty of room to improve.

AMD takes shots at Nvidia with expanded FidelityFX toolkit and GPUOpen

Posted: 11 May 2020 12:43 PM PDT

AMD has announced the relaunch of GPUOpen, which now boasts a brand-new website and four new FideltyFX effects optimized for AMD Navi graphics cards

GPUOpen, which AMD debuted in 2016, is a collection of open-source GPU technologies and specifications that developers can use in video game development.

The company today announced that it has overhauled the four-year-old website with a “modern look and feel”, giving developers a simple-to-use resource for accessing its GPUOpen tools and technologies, along with tutorials and samples and presentations.

In order to celebrate the launch of the long-overdue redesign, AMD announced that it’s also releasing new GPUOpen tools and technologies every day this week.

These RDNA-optimized effects will equip developers with more advanced tools for implementing high-quality post-process game effects, and will exist in contrast to Nvidia's more exclusive GameWorks technologies like PhysX and HairWorks.

Eyecandy everywhere

The biggest part of the program is the expansion of the FideltyFX toolkit, which was introduced last year with Content Adaptive Sharpening (CAS). AMD has today added four new effects, including Stochastic Screen Space Reflections (SSSR), Combined Adaptive Compute Ambient Occlusion, (CACAO), Luminance Preserving Mapper (LPM) and, Single Pass Downsampler (SPD).

As per Team Red’s announcement, SSSR will enable high-quality reflections with minimal overhead, CACAO will help improve the appearance of objects based on their exposure to ambient light, LPM will offer up superior HDR and wide color gamut content for games, and SPD generates texture MIP levels using asynchronous compute for optimal performance.

Additionally, AMD has released two new demos, which are available for download today. The first, FEMFEX, is Team Red’s open-source CPU library for deformable material physicals that “enables game developers to take physics realism to the next level”, while TressFX will allow for the creation of GPU-accelerated realistic hair, fur rendering and simulation technology in games.

To round out its GPUOpen relaunch week, as AMD calls it, the company will be hosting its first-ever virtual developer event on Friday. The “Let’s Build” event will play host to many of the presentations Team Red had planned for the now-postponed Game Developers Conference (GDC).

Sony’s 2020 portable Bluetooth speaker lineup brings the bass with side-firing subwoofers

Posted: 11 May 2020 11:18 AM PDT

Sony’s annual Bluetooth speaker upgrades are rolling out this week as it introduces its new Sony SRS-XB23, SRS-XB33 and SRS-XB43 speakers to the world.

The big changes to the portable speaker lineup include the removal of the strobe LED lights from last year in exchange for less-aggressive pulsing LED strips and new passive radiators on the sides that Sony says will help the speaker sound clearer and punchier in the low-end.

Like last year’s lineup, the 2020 Extra Bass Bluetooth speakers are IP67 waterproof, dustproof, rustproof and shockproof, making them great travel speakers, but will instead use a USB Type-C connector for charging instead of microUSB.

All the models will have Sony’s Party Connect mode that allows you to string together up to 100 speakers and the XB33 and XB43 have a 24-hour battery life instead of the 12-hour battery life found on the XB23.

Let there be light (and sound!)

While the light show is nothing new for Sony’s Extra Bass Bluetooth speakers - it’s been around since 2017 – the move to side-firing subwoofers (more specifically, passive radiators) is a substantial improvement.

According to Sony’s press release, “The layout of the speakers’ side passive radiators is optimized to reproduce clear bass while a rigid and lightweight Mica Reinforced Cellular (MRC) cone and dust cap contribute to the sound quality.”

Even better, the passive radiators are featured on every model in the lineup all the way down to the $99 (around £80, AU$150) SRS-XB23 Bluetooth speaker, which could serve as some decent competition to the class-leading Ultimate Ears Boom 3.

The Sony SRS-XB33 and SRS-XB43 are a bit pricier, coming in at $149 (around £120, AU$230) and $249 (around £200, AU$400) respectively, but do add extra mid-range drivers and tweeters so expect better sound if you're willing to shell out more money.

All the speakers in the lineup are available to pre-order starting today on Sony's website and should be available to purchase in-store in the very near future.

Best powerline adapters in 2020: top picks for expanding your home network

Posted: 11 May 2020 11:10 AM PDT

In the current climate, where many of us are now working from home, buying the best powerline adapter you can is an essential purchase. These are handy devices that plug in to your home's power supply and turns it into a high-speed network.

They are particularly useful if you have a Wi-Fi network that doesn't reach throughout your home or office. The best powerline adapters on this page pass your network data through the wiring within your home, so no distance – and no amount of walls – will affect the strength and speed of your connection.

The best powerline adapters not only ensure that every device in your home or office has access to the internet, they can bring speeds that are not too far off standard wired networks – but without the need to trail Ethernet cables throughout the building.

The best powerline adapters are also incredibly easy to install - just plug one into a power socket by your router or modem, and connect it via an Ethernet cable. Then, place a second adapter where you want to supply the network or internet to, and connect any devices to the second adaptor.

Some Wi-Fi adapters also include Wi-Fi antennae for bringing wireless networks into difficult to reach parts of a building.

Over the years powerline adapters have evolved, and the technology they use these days offer even greater speeds than ever before. So, read on to find out what our picks are for the best powerline adapters.

Best powerline adapters at a glance:

  1. TP-Link AV2000 Powerline adapter
  2. Asus 1200Mbps AV2 1200 Wi-Fi Powerline Adapter
  3. TP-LINK AV600 Powerline Adapter Kit
  4. Devolo dLAN 1200+ WiFi ac powerline adapter
  5. Devolo dLAN Duo 500 Powerline Adaptor

TP-Link AV2000 Powerline

The TP-Link AV2000 takes the award for fastest power line adaptor, with a maximum speed of 2000Mbps - though of course actual speeds will be lower. Still, it offers fantastic speeds, along with built-in dual band wireless ac networks and a pass through socket.

In the starter kit you'll get two adapters, one has a single Ethernet port, which you should use to connect to your modem or router, and the second one has two Ethernet ports for connecting wired devices.

Asus 1200Mbps AV2 1200 Wi-Fi Powerline Adapter

Asus may not be the first company that comes to mind when you think about networking devices, but it makes some very good products - such as the Asus 1200Mbps AV2 1200 Wi-Fi Powerline Adapter.

As the name suggests this is a very fast powerline adaptor that is also able to broadcast a Wi-Fi network as well. Unlike other powerline adapters with Wi-Fi, the Asus 1200Mbps AV2 1200 Wi-Fi Powerline Adapter has external antennae, which allow you to angle them for increased coverage - though it does mean the units themselves look a little bit ugly compared to some of its competitors.

TP-LINK AV600 Powerline Adapter Kit

If you're looking for a nice, cheap but reliable powerline adaptor, than the TP-LINK AV600 is a great choice. It's a lot less money than many of the adapters on this list, but it still manages to offer plenty of features.

For example, it can broadcast Wi-Fi, and with a Wi-Fi clone button, you can easily extend your existing wireless network. it also features two Ethernet ports, and the second adaptor in the set includes a pass through socket so you don't lose out on a power socket when using the adaptor. While the 600Mbps top speed isn't as high as others on this list, it's still enough to transfer big files and stream media around your home.

Devolo dLAN 1200+ WiFi ac

The Devolo dLAN 1200+ WiFi ac is one of the fastest powerline adapters on the market, able to reach speeds of 1.2 gigabits a second - though you should note that you won't often get those kinds of speeds, as there are numerous factors that can affect powerline speeds.

Still, this is a very fast powerline adaptor, and the fact it can also broadcast dual-band wireless ac networks makes this a very versatile powerline adaptor. The adaptor also has a pass through power port, which means you won't lose a power socket - just plug other devices into the adaptor itself.

Devolo dLAN Duo 500 Powerline Adapter

This is an excellent entry-level power adaptor that does a very good job at transmitting your network traffic over your powerlines. It doesn't boast the highest speeds, nor does it have Wi-Fi or a passthrough socket, but it does the job well considering the price, and its low cost means it's easy to add adapters to your network in the future.

Best PC for photo editing 2020: top desktops for Photoshop

Posted: 11 May 2020 11:07 AM PDT

If you're a photographer looking for the best PCs for photo editing, then you've come to the right place. On this page you'll find top computers that we've carefully picked to provide professional photographers (and keen hobbyists) with the power needed to handle photo editing software like Photoshop.

As you'll be working with high resolution photos, the best PCs for photo editing usually come with a dedicated graphics card, rather than a less powerful integrated GPU, and while you won't need an expensive high-end graphics card (unless you want to do video editing or 3D rendering and modelling as well), it's worth buying a PC with a decent mid-range or higher graphics card, so your PC can keep up with your workload.

When buying the best photo editing PC for your needs, you should also make sure it has enough RAM, as this allows you to have a number of programs and images open at once. We recommend at least 8GB of RAM for a modern photo editing PC.

You'll also want a high capacity hard drive for storing your photos on, we'd recommend 1TB or higher. The larger your photo collection is, the more space you'll need. The good thing about PCs is that you can add extra hard drives reasonably easily (especially compared to laptops), but by buying a photo editing PC with plenty of storage space already will save you having to fiddle about installing extra hard drives later on.

If you'd like something a bit more portable, then make sure you check out our pick of the best laptops for photographers and photo editing.

  • In search of a photo book to store your edited prints?

Best PC for photo editing at a glance:

  1. Apple Mac mini 2018
  2. Lenovo ThinkCentre M900
  3. Microsoft Surface Studio 2
  4. Apple iMac Pro
  5. Lenovo Yoga A940
  6. iMac (27-inch, 2019)
  7. HP Pavilion Wave
  8. Intel Hades Canyon NUC

The new Mac mini was a long time coming, but it was well worth the wait, as Apple has packed it with some brilliant modern components, including the latest 6-core processors from Intel, along with support for up to 64GB RAM and loads of storage as well, all in that small and stylish body we've come to love. It's perfectly powerful enough for photo editing, and small enough for photographers to carry around with them. The only disappointment is that it does not come with discrete graphics, but Intel's integrated UHD Graphics 630 aren't too shabby, and you can also plug in an external GPU for extra graphical oomph.

The Lenovo ThinkCentre M900 is an excellent desktop PC for photo editing, as it combines speed and power with an excellent build quality and reliability which is essential for PCs used for heavy duty image manipulation. Best of all, the Lenovo ThinkCentre M900 comes in a range of configurations, with the top-end model boasting a huge amount of power. This flexibility lets you build a Lenovo ThinkCentre M900 that suits your needs, and there's plenty of room to upgrade and expand this desktop in the future.

Surface Studio 2

The Surface Studio 2 ups the power significantly, making it a much more future-proof device. (Image credit: TechRadar)

If you’re looking for an incredibly powerful, yet stylishly designed, all-in-one PC that’s not made by Apple, then Microsoft’s brilliant Surface Studio 2 will be for you. It comes at a price, but for build quality and performance, you’ll not want to look any further, especially if you work with photo editing applications. Microsoft's all-in-one PC fits comfortably on a desk, and it's built-in screen makes your photos look fantastic, even before you've edited them. As it run Windows 10 you get a huge range of comparible photo editing apps as well.

If you're a professional photographer and digital creative, then the iMac Pro is one of the best PCs money can buy. This is a seriously powerful all-in-one that was released last year with cutting edge tech, and a choice of powerful Intel Xeon W processors, bags of RAM and hefty graphical processing power. All of this in an iconic Apple design. If you have the budget for it, the iMac Pro is one of the best PCs for photo editing money can buy. However, for some people, you may find it has a level of power that you do not require, so read on for more modest (and affordable) PCs for photo editing.

Lenovo Yoga A940

Lenovo Yoga A940 is plenty powerful to meet the needs of creative professionals.

Lenovo’s latest all-in-one offering isn’t as powerful as Apple’s premium AIO, the iMac Pro, or even the recently updated iMac, which now offers a 9th-generation Intel Core configuration. After all, the 8th-generation chips and Radeon RX 560 graphics are aging at this point. However, it is still plenty powerful to meet the needs of professional photographers who can't afford Apple's more pricey machines. It's one of the best PCs for photo editing thanks to its screen that offers 100% Adobe RGB support and Dolby Vision, plus a stylus and dial as well, for better control over your photo editing work.

iMac (27-inch, 2019)

If the iMac Pro above is too expensive (and offers a level of performance that you simply don't need) but you want an Apple all-in-one, then the standard iMac is more than capable of helping you with your photo editing. While the iMac 2019 doesn’t feature a touchscreen or an adjustable stand, the option for a 4K P3 wide color gamut display means it will accurately display your photos. This year's model also offers upgraded components that make it an even better productivity machine for photographers.

HP Pavilion Mini

Though at first you might confuse it for a fabric-woven Mac Pro refresh, the HP Pavilion Wave is anything but. This compact Windows machine packs in 6th-generation Intel Core processors and optional discrete AMD graphics with a uniquely integrated Bang & Olufsen speaker. Wrapped in a handsome fabric exterior, this is the perfect PC to have on the desk. If you love listening to music while you edit your photos, then this is a brilliant – and stylish – PC to consider.

If you’re looking for a great desktop experience for photo editing, but don’t have a lot of space, look no further than the Intel Hades Canyon NUC. In this tiny bare-bones PC, you have an insanely powerful 8th-generation Intel Core i7 processor, and discrete-class Radeon graphics – once you throw in some RAM and storage, you've got a small and easily portable PC that can handle photo editing with ease. If you often travel around and want a powerful and dependable PC for photo editing, then this is definitely worth considering.

Best laptop for programming in 2020: top picks for coders, developers and sysadmins

If you’re looking for the best laptop for programming, you’ve come to the right place. We found all the best laptops for software developers like you, whether you’re trying your hand at HTML, CSS, JavaScript or VB.

Before you go through are list, bear in mind that are a few things you need to think about before you buy the best laptop for programming.

First, you’re going to need one of the best processors, as that horsepower goes a long way when you’re compiling code. Most modern laptops will feature plenty of cores, threads and high clock speeds, but you should focus on getting the fastest processor you can afford.

Then there’s the memory. You absolutely need at least 8GB, and it needs to be fast. Think about storage as well: one of the best SSDs is essential, as it will shave minutes off your project with all the files and apps you’ll use.

You won’t necessarily need the fastest graphics chip on the market, as modern Intel hardware comes with integrated graphics that are more than good enough for anything you’ll encounter while programming. However, if you want to do some gaming in your down time, go for it.

Oh, and do yourself a favor and make sure you’re getting one of the best keyboards. As programming involves a lot of typing, you need a keyboard with excellent travel and superior comfort. And, a high resolution display will help make sure that it's easy on the eyes, as you’ll be spending a lot of hours and then some staring at it.

Google Pixelbook

Yes, a Chromebook (or two) has made our best laptop for programming list. That’s because Google Pixelbook is powerful (and beautiful) enough to contend with the Surfaces and MacBooks of the world. Admittedly, the ChromeOS is not as good a place to program as Windows or macOS. However, the Pixelbook’s support of Android makes it a must-own laptop for any Android developer. The fact that this laptop succeeds the now discontinued Google Chromebook Pixel, which was designed by and for Google’s own developers, should give it some street cred in the eyes of coders.

Sodinokibi ransomware has got even nastier

Posted: 11 May 2020 10:58 AM PDT

A new feature has been added to the Sodinokibi  ransomware that allows it to encrypt even more of a victim's files including those that are opened and locked by another process.

Databases, mail servers and some other applications will lock files that they have open to prevent other programs from modifying them. By locking these files, the programs prevent the data they contain from being corrupted as a result of two processes writing to a file at the same time.

Ransomware applications are also unable to encrypt locked files without first shutting down the process that locked them in the first place. For this reason, ransomware will try to shut down database servers, mail servers and other applications that have the ability to lock files before encrypting a computer.

Version 2.2 of the Sodinokibi ransomware now contains a feature that allows it to use the Windows Restart Manager API to close processes or shut down Windows services which keep files open during encryption.

Sodinokibi revamped

The cybercrime intelligence firm Intel471 provided more details on how the Sodinokibi (REvil) ransomware is using the Windows Restart Manager to encrypt even more files in a new report, saying:

“One of the more interesting new features of REvil version 2.2 is the use of the Windows Restart Manager to terminate processes and services that can lock files targeted for encryption. If a process has an open file handle for a specific file, then writes to that file by another process (in this case, a ransomware) it will be prevented by the Windows operating system (OS). To circumvent this, the REvil developers have implemented a technique using the Windows Restart Manager also used by other ransomware such as SamSam and LockerGoga.”

The Windows Restart Manager API was originally created by Microsoft in order to allow Windows PCs to easily install software updates without first performing a restart in order to free files that the update will replace.

Now that Sodinokibi is using the software giant's API, victims will be able to more easily decrepit files after paying a ransom but more of their files will end up being encrypted by the ransomware.

How to watch Normal People: stream the new show online from anywhere

Posted: 11 May 2020 10:11 AM PDT

Normal People is a strong candidate for unexpected TV hit of the year. The transition of Sally Rooney's 2018 must-read novel to a critically-acclaimed 12-part series produced by Hulu and BBC Three has been something to behold - especially for the pessimists out there. But then with hugely respected Irish indie director Lenny Abrahamson (Garage, Frank) at the helm of the show, what else would you expect? Don't miss another moment of the drama - here's how to watch Normal People online and stream every episode right now, no matter where you live in the world.

The show follows the rollercoaster relationship of Irish teenagers Connell (Paul Mescal) and Marianne (Daisy Edgar-Jones). They attend the same secondary school - or high school - in County Sligo, and later spend their university years together at Trinity College Dublin.

Things are far from straightforward between them, though, as Marianne comes from a wealthy family who Connell's mother cleans for - and the two also blossom socially at different times. Connell is a big shot Gaelic football star at high school but becomes a fish out of water at university. Marianne, on the other hand, finds her feet at precisely the same time.

We won't give too much away, but it's safe to say that first the book and now the TV show put the insecurities of young people under the microscope in an illuminating way, sparking conversations about a number of important issues including depression, suicide and abuse - please bear this in mind before watching.

An instant entry into the best Hulu shows this May, read on as we explain all the easiest ways to watch Normal People online for free - stream the show in Ireland, the UK, US, Australia and many more countries by following the simple steps outline below in our guide.

How to watch Normal People online from abroad

The coronavirus has stalled holidays and postponed work trips indefinitely, but international travel will resume one day - and you may even be stuck outside your country of origin, for whatever reason. If and when that's the case, you could be forgiven for wanting a taste of home comforts, especially during these difficult times.

If that means using the streaming services you normally would, geo-blocking can prove to be a major obstacle - but fortunately there's an easy solution. It's called a VPN and it's a handy trick that lets you get around digital borders and will allow you to watch Normal People by changing your IP address to your nation of residence. But which VPN is best for you?

The Mandalorian season 2: release date, Baby Yoda, Boba Fett, Ahsoka Tano and what we know

Posted: 11 May 2020 10:04 AM PDT

The Mandalorian season 2 will release in October 2020, so you don't have to wait long for the return of Din Djarin and his charge, The Child, in the Disney Plus Star Wars TV series. In fact, The Mandalorian has been so successful that a third season is reportedly already in the works.

But what do we know about the future adventures of Baby Yoda and company? Quite a lot, actually. Production on the show is all done, which should insulate the show from coronavirus-related disruption: post-production effects work is being completed remotely. In fact, Disney's CEO Bob Chapek has reportedly confirmed that season 2 of the Star Wars TV show will not be delayed.

Most recently, it's been reported that Boba Fett will feature in The Mandalorian season 2. On Star Wars Day, too, it was revealed that directors Robert Rodriguez (Battle Angel Alita) and Peyton Reed (Ant-Man) will be directing episodes of the next season. We've also seen a credible report suggest that The Clone Wars icon Ahsoka Tano will appear in The Mandalorian season 2, played by Rosario Dawson.

Here's what we know The Mandalorian season 2 release date, the Darksaber tease at the end of season 1, returning cast and the latest information on season 3.

The Mandalorian season 2 release date: October 2020

The official Mandalorian season 2 release date is October 2020, which Disney confirmed in its earnings report in February. It's apparently been confirmed by Disney's Bob Chapek that the show won't be delayed by the health crisis.

Season 2 was already in the works when season 1 started releasing on Disney Plus – confirmation of a second season came from creator Jon Favreau after just one episode was released.

Favreau revealed a little more on Friday December 27, with a tweet confirming that the new season would be coming in Fall 2020. Only later was the specific month of October revealed by Disney.

Filming on season 2 wrapped as of March 2020. Post-production is now in the works on the show, with effects teams working from home.

The Mandalorian season 2 cast should feature Boba Fett and Ahsoka Tano

It's been reported by THR that Boba Fett will appear in season 2 of The Mandalorian, played by Temuera Morrison, who previously played Jango Fett in Attack of the Clones. It will be a guest-starring role, apparently, but this presumably means Boba Fett has escaped his fate in the Sarlacc Pit. He's not the only Star Wars character from the past making an appearance this year.

A report from Slashfilm suggests that Rosario Dawson will play The Clone Wars favorite Ahsoka Tano in The Mandalorian season 2. This would mark the character's first appearance in live-action. The outlet reports that two sources verified the info, but that Lucasfilm or Dawson's representatives wouldn't comment on it. Variety, too, confirmed the report, saying it's a guest-starring role.

Speaking to Variety, Dawson explains how excited she would be for such a role. "That's not confirmed yet," she said, "but when that happens I will be very happy." She went on to say "The two universes, Star Trek and Star Wars. I get in those two, I'm telling you, man, that's it. I will just retire." It seems like it's fair to say that if Dawson doesn't play Ahsoka Tano, it wasn't her decision.

The Clone Wars mastermind Dave Filoni was asked about Ahsoka's rumored appearance in The Mandalorian season 2, too, but wouldn't be drawn on details. "The great thing about the character is she's proved herself and earned her place among the Star Wars leads out there. So whatever the future holds, who knows? But for now, we'll get to see this ending of Clone Wars and see how that goes."

But in terms of confirmed cast news, Micheal Biehn is a huge addition for season 2 (via The Hollywood Reporter). Known famously as Kyle Reese in The Terminator and Corporal Hicks in Aliens, this is Biehn's first major role in more than a decade. We'll have to wait for any concrete details on his character, however, but the rumor is he'll be another bounty hunter.

The Mandalorian season 2 story: the search for Baby Yoda's homeworld and Darksaber action

George Lucas had a rule that Jedi Master Yoda's species and home planet weren't to be disclosed, back when he was in charge of Star Wars. Now that Disney is in charge of Lucasfilm and Star Wars, though, it's likely that this has changed, as everything suggest The Mandalorian season 2 will focus on the search for “the Child” – aka Baby Yoda’s – home.

During the season 1 finale, the Mandalorian Armorer on Nevarro tells the Mandalorian (real name Din Djarin) that because Baby Yoda is a foundling (and therefore probably not, as previously speculated, a clone), “By creed it it is in your care.” She then adds that, “You have no choice, you must reunite it with its own kind.”

Unfortunately for Mando, however, the Armorer didn’t have any information on where he might find them: “This you must determine,” she teases.

But as ever in Star Wars, there’s a degree of ambiguity here – and the identity of who the Mandalorian is actually looking for may come down to your own point of view. Perhaps Mando is, as it seems at first glance, looking for the homeworld of Yoda’s species. Or maybe he’s simply looking for Jedi who survived the Emperor’s Order 66 purge in Revenge of the Sith, some three decades earlier.

Why the confusion? In the Outer Rim worlds that provide the setting for The Mandalorian, the Force exploits of the Jedi are just myth – indeed, the Mandalorian simply says of Baby Yoda’s Force abilities that “it can move objects with its mind”.

“I know of such things,” the Armorer reveals. “The songs of aeons past tell of battles between Mandalore the Great and an order of sorcerers called Jedi that fought with such powers.” Crucially, when Mando asks if Baby Yoda is an enemy, the Armorer states: “Its kind were enemies but this individual is not.”

So seeing as Mandalore’s battles were with the Jedi, rather than specifically with Yoda’s species, this implies that Mando’s new bounty may actually be the Jedi...

Or maybe the Mandalorian will settle for simply finding out Baby Yoda's name. Apparently he has one, and Disney CEO Bob Iger told The Star Wars Show that he knows what it is – not that he's giving anything away. Speculation over Yoda's name continues.

Of course, we'll see more of Moff Gideon in season 2 of The Mandalorian, probably looking for revenge after the battle at the end of season 1. "Major, major, epic, epic lightsaber action happening on this show," the actor said at Fan Expo Canada (via Comic Book). Whoever Gideon is fighting with the Darksaber, though, won't be Mando or (heaven forbid) Baby Yoda. Either way, this means we'll see another character wielding a lightsaber in season 2.

The Mandalorian season 2: spin-offs may be in the works, and season 3 is reportedly confirmed

In an earnings call, Disney's Bob Iger hinted at more characters being introduced in The Mandalorian, with possible spin-offs being set up. He teased it as, "more coming from The Mandalorian thereafter, including the possibility of infusing it with more characters and the possibility of taking those characters in their own direction in terms of series".

The exact phrasing suggests spin-offs will focus on newer characters, rather than existing ones. We're sure a lot of fans would argue Gina Carano's Cara Dune would be a good fit...

One actor rumored for a role in season 2 is WWE star Sasha Banks. Who she'd be playing, though, is yet to be confirmed.

The Mandalorian season 3, too, appears to be in the works already. Variety confirmed that Jon Favreau is deep into writing season 3, with Lucasfilm's art department beginning work on the next set of episodes already.

The Mandalorian season 2: the Darksaber explained

Above: clips from The Clone Wars featuring the Darksaber.

When Moff Gideon cuts himself out of his stricken TIE Fighter at the end of The Mandalorian season 1 finale, he uses a blade that sounds much like a lightsaber, but looks rather different to the weapons we’re used to seeing in the hands of Jedi and Sith. More sword-like in shape, with a black blade surrounded by a bright glow, it should, however, be familiar to viewers of Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels. Because unless we’re very much mistaken, this looks like the legendary Darksaber.

This unique weapon is a key part of Star Wars – and particularly Mandalorian – lore. Originally created by Tarre Vizsla, the first Mandalorian warrior to join the Jedi order, it became a symbol of power on the planet of Mandalore. At the conclusion of Star Wars Rebels (set two years before the events of Star Wars: A New Hope) it ended up in the hands of Bo-Katan Kryze, who was deemed the rightful heir to the Mandalorian leadership.

But how did such an important weapon end up in Moff Gideon’s hands? We do know that at some point between the end of Rebels and Return of the Jedi, the Empire carried out the so-called “Great Purge”, all but wiping out the Mandalorians. We also know that Gideon was an officer in the Imperial Security Bureau (ISB) during the Purge, so could have obtained the Darksaber from Bo-Katan at that time. (If that does turn out to be the case, it’ll be intriguing to find out if Bo-Katan survived – she was played by Battlestar Galactica’s Katee Sackhoff in both The Clone Wars and Rebels, so this could be a chance to get a fan-favorite actor into the show.)

Alternatively, the Darksaber could have been in the possession of the Mandalorian “Tribe” living underground on Nevarro throughout The Mandalorian season 1 –Gideon may simply have obtained it when his Imperial remnant wiped out most of the Mandalorians in hiding. This seems less likely, however – surely the surviving Armorer would have protected such an important weapon with her life.

The Mandalorian season 2: Jon Favreau will direct an episode

Despite being the creator and main writer of The Mandalorian season one, Iron Man director Jon Favreau didn't direct a single episode – it didn't hurt the show at all, but season 2 will benefit from his input. "I didn’t get a chance the last time around because I was doing Lion King," Favreau mentioned to EW. "So I'll step in for one of them."

George Lucas has been on the show's set, too, resulting in this amazing photo:

What's more, it's rumored that Peyton Reed (Ant-Man, Yes Man) will direct two episodes. This comes from Charles Murphy, but he admits that he has no secondary source to corroborate his information. Another rumor doing the rounds in February 2020 contended that James Mangold (Walk the Line, The Wolverine), but Mangold later debunked them.

Taika Waititi has confirmed he will not return as director for season 2. During an Instagram Live session, the Jojo Rabbit and Thor: Ragnarok director said "I'm not directing any of the episodes of The Mandalorian because I was doing another film, a soccer film with Michael Fassbender. After Jojo Rabbit I decided to make a sports film, something I’ve never done, about a sport I knew nothing about and I still don’t."

The Mandalorian season 2: Original Trilogy characters rumored to appear

According to Deadline, “Insiders have hinted that several established characters from the Skywalker saga’s feature films mythology will make appearances during the show’s sophomore season.” Jon Favreau’s release date tweet above showed a picture of a Gamorrean, one of the so-called Pig Guards from Jabba’s Palace in Return of the Jedi, but we suspect that – if this insider's rumors are accurate – they’re referring to someone who’s a significantly bigger deal in the saga than that.

While Jabba the Hutt, Darth Vader and the Emperor are dead (or so the galaxy believes…) and Luke Skywalker is unlikely to crop up away from the saga that bears his name, there are plenty of big names in the Star Wars universe who’ll be operating around the time of The Mandalorian. It's set five years after the destruction of the second Death Star in Return of the Jedi, after all. Original trilogy survivors Han Solo, Princess Leia, Chewbacca, Lando Calrissian, C-3PO, R2-D2, and even Rebel legends Wedge Antilles, Admiral Ackbar and Nien Nunb could all cross paths with the Mandalorian and Baby Yoda.

But we’d be much more interested to see General Hux’s dad, Brendol – a former Imperial officer who was instrumental in the formation of the First Order – or even (SPOILER ALERT) Rey’s parents. Now that we know they lived in hiding – pretending to be “nobody” before giving Rey away – any new glimpses at their backstory could enhance what we learned in The Rise of Skywalker.

Perhaps most likely, however, is the reappearance of various bounty hunters hired by Darth Vader to capture the Millennium Falcon in The Empire Strikes Back. IG-88, Zuckuss, Dengar, Bossk and 4-LOM are still theoretically looking for work in the time of The Mandalorian season 2, and definitely operate in the same hives of scum and villainy as our friendly neighborhood Mando.

Maybe we’ll even see a return for the legendary Boba Fett… Yes, he was last seen being swallowed by the Sarlacc in Return of the Jedi, but the bounty hunter did manage to escape 1000 years of digestion in the old Expanded Universe “Legends” stories, a plot that could be ported over into official canon. And there’s also been plenty of speculation online that the mysterious figure on Tatooine who finds the body of the deceased Fennec Shand in Chapter 5, “The Gunslinger”, may be Fett himself – the jangling spurs might just be a clue...

And even if the owner of the spurs isn't Fett, one particularly interesting theory suggested on Inverse suggests it could be a member of the family – Ailyn Vel, his daughter in the Legends stories. Could this be the identity of this mysterious Funko Pop! Vinyl figure?

Disney Gallery: The Mandalorian will kill the time until season 2

As we wait patiently for the tiniest scraps of Mandalorian cast and story details, perhaps we'll get some in an upcoming documentary all about the flagship Disney Plus show. Set to land for Star Wars Day 2020 (May 4, in case you didn't already know), Disney Gallery: The Mandalorian is an eight-part documentary series set to give us a behind-the-scenes look at how the show was made, from idea to screen.

Eight episodes is quite a lot, so we're expecting this series to dive pretty deep. Favreau said "Disney Gallery: The Mandalorian is an opportunity for fans of the show to take a look inside and get to see a different perspective, and perhaps a greater understanding, of how The Mandalorian came together and some of the incredibly talented contributors throughout season 1." Who knows, maybe we'll get a taste of season 2 too.

The Mandalorian is the best slice of Star Wars in years

We can't wait for a second season of The Mandalorian. A couple of less thrilling episodes in the middle of season one aside, the simple storytelling and stylish imagery of this show made it a satisfying glimpse at a different side of the Star Wars universe. Creator Jon Favreau has plenty on the table to pay off in season 2.

Microsoft now protects Office 365 users from Reply-All email chains

Posted: 11 May 2020 09:50 AM PDT

After announcing that it would add protection against reply-all email chains last year, Microsoft has rolled out a new feature to Office 365 customers to do just that.

An email storm typically occurs when a member of a large email distribution list, such as a company wide email at a large organization, replies to all of the recipients using the reply-all feature. This can inadvertently trigger a DDoS attack that has the potential to take down the email servers used to deliver the huge amount of replies sent during the storm.

Email storms occur quite frequently and Microsoft itself suffered two of these incidents in January and March of this year. The first involved 11,500 of the company's employees while the second was much larger and included more than 52,000 employees.

During last year's Microsoft Ignite conference, the software giant announced that it would begin working on a new feature to help prevent reply-all email storms on Office 365 Exchange email servers and the new feature has now begun to roll out to Office 365 users worldwide.

Reply All Storm Protection

According to Microsoft, its Reply All Storm Protection feature is currently able to block all email threads with over 5,000 recipients that have generated more than 10 reply-all sequences within the last 60 minutes.

Once the feature gets alerted that an email storm is occurring, Exchange Online will block all replies in an email thread for the next few hours in order to help servers prioritize actual emails while working to shut down the reply-all email chain.

Microsoft plans to continue working on the feature in the future and the company has promised to add controls for Exchange admins to allow them to set up their own email storm detection limits. The Exchange Team provided more details on how the feature will work and on its plans for future updates in a blog post, saying:

“Initially the Reply All Storm Protection feature will mostly benefit large organizations who have large distribution lists. When the feature detects a likely reply all storm taking place on a large DL it will block subsequent attempts to reply all to the thread and will return an NDR to the sender. The reply all block will remain in place for several hours. Over time, as we gather usage telemetry and customer feedback, we expect to tweak, fine-tune, and enhance the Reply All Storm Protection feature to make it even more valuable to a broader range of Office 365 customers.”

If you’re looking for a 15-inch Chromebook that will give you the most bang for your buck, look no further.

Lenovo Yoga Book cheap laptops deals sales

If you're looking for a Lenovo laptop, the Lenovo Yoga Book, and the Windows 10 version of it in particular, is the sort of futuristic fodder you would find in an episode of Black Mirror. It has a keyboard that doubles as a Wacom touch panel and, best of all, it’s cheap as hell. Now, of course, that comes with the caveat of a weak Intel Atom processor, but the rest of the Lenovo Yoga Book should go down in the history books. Lenovo laptop deals are often worth a look, even if you're just browsing, as they offer a decent range of prices and specs.

Asus X102BA laptop deals sales price

With its slick lines and a slim silhouette, the Acer Chromebook 14 makes for a subtle, snazzy laptop. Although its display isn't the most attractive we've seen, it’s still acceptable for full HD. On top of that, the keyboard and trackpad adhere to the principle of ‘it just works.’ The battery life is satisfactory as well despite falling a bit south of Acer's 12-hour claim in real-world use.

Cheap laptop deals under $200: how much storage do you really need?

One of the first things we often check when shopping for cheap laptops is the amount of storage on offer. As shoppers, we've become accustomed to comparing prices and models based on the number of gigabytes next to the model name. However, there may be more to it than that, especially when you're browsing the cheaper shelves. You may also need to pay attention to your operating system when picking up a laptop deal under $200.

A 16 or 32GB Windows laptop, for example, likely won't suit many even for lighter browsing. That's because Windows takes up considerable space on the hard drive by itself, especially when updates are taken into account. A Chromebook, however, runs on Chrome OS - a lighter operating system designed to run on cloud-based services from Google Chrome. Not only will you have to save space for updates, but you'll also make far more use of the limited space that you do have if you're storing most of your work online.

That means, if you're looking for cheap laptop deals under $200, you'll want to make sure you're picking up enough room to house any future updates on a Windows machine, or you're happy using a Chromebook.

How much are good laptop deals?

Shopping for laptop deals between $50 and $200 will usually have you looking at the excellent range of Chromebooks on sale right now. Typically running Chrome OS, these budget laptop deals will see you through everyday web browsing, emails, and some light streaming for eye wateringly low prices. You'll be picking up anything from a 16GB SSD to a 64GB hard drive, but you'll also be looking to utilize the cloud for more storage.

If you're punting a bit higher than $200, you'll be opening yourself up to more RAM, moving from 4GB to 8GB in most models, meaning your cheap laptop will be able to open programs faster, generally retrieving information and multi-task in a more streamlined manner. You'll also be picking up far more storage for your cash, with prices this week including either a 128GB or 256GB SSD. This SSD further streamlines your storage, acting as a lightning-fast drive to keep everything you need instantly attainable.

Once you search for laptop deals above $400, you may well start to find 16GB of RAM on offer as well as a few models with a 512GB SSD. Along with improved processors, that means exceedingly fast storage potential, keeping your cheap laptop zippy however many programs you have open. Laptops above this price range are also better suited to media editing than cheaper models.

Not quite what you're looking for? Maybe our other laptop articles will have what you need:

The Mandalorian season 2 release date will not be delayed, Disney confirms

Posted: 11 May 2020 09:26 AM PDT

You can still expect to see The Mandalorian season 2 on Disney Plus this October, because Disney's CEO Bob Chapek has apparently told CNBC that the series will not be delayed by the pandemic. That's according to a tweet from CNN's Frank Pallotta, who was tweeting out key points from the interview with Chapek.

Here's a link to the interview on CNBC, but here's what Chapek said on the matter. "Take for example Mandalorian. Mandalorian was shot before Covid really hit. And so we've been in post-production, and there will be no delay with Mandalorian."

An October release date for The Mandalorian's follow-up year was confirmed during a Disney earnings call in February, but a lot has happened since then.

Ever since the global health crisis hit the world of TV and film, it's been unclear what impact this would have on upcoming shows that finished filming but required extensive effects and audio work after the fact. Star Trek: Discovery season 3 is being slowed down by the challenges of remote working, for example.

Look forward to the return of Baby Yoda on Disney Plus later this year, then.

The challenges of remote effects work

The Mandalorian is facing logistical challenges on finishing its many effects shots. In an interview with Variety, animation supervisor Hal Hickel said a typical season of the show features just less than 4000 effects shots, more than you'd see in a summer blockbuster. Right now, that's being worked on remotely.

"We're in the middle of that tsunami now, but we’re going to get it all done, people are going to get their Baby Yoda, I promise."

Other shows that have finished filming, but are still in post-production, include The Umbrella Academy season 2 on Netflix. The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, another Disney Plus original, didn't finish filming before the crisis kicked off.

Best tablet 2020: the top tablets you can buy right now

Posted: 11 May 2020 09:22 AM PDT

If you're looking for the best tablet you can buy right now, you've come to the right place. We've tested, reviewed, then listed the top 10 tablets you can buy in 2020, to help you decide on your next slate of choice.

Picking the best tablet is a complicated job as a good slate acts as a powerful laptop replacement for work, entertainment, and communication, all while remaining easy to carry around.

We've looked at all the factors we think you'll be interested in such as how great its display is, how long it lasts in terms of battery life, how fast it is to use, and if it supports a reliable keyboard.

This list is constantly changing as new products come out. There's the brand new iPad Pro 2020 series plus the Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 Lite that may both land in the ranking below. We haven't completed our full reviews of either yet, but we expect both of those products to sit in the list once we've finished them.

Below you'll find our ranking of the very best tablets, and hopefully you'll be able to find a slate that is suited to you.

Best tablets of 2020 at a glance:

  1. Apple iPad Pro 11 (2018)
  2. Apple iPad Pro 12.9 (2018)
  3. iPad 10.2 (2019)
  4. iPad Air (2019)
  5. iPad Mini (2019)
  6. Samsung Galaxy Tab S6
  7. iPad Pro 10.5 (2017)
  8. Microsoft Surface Pro
  9. Samsung Galaxy Tab S4
  10. Asus ZenPad 3S 10

iPad Pro 11 (2018)

The iPad Pro 11 is the best tablet you can buy today. It's expensive for sure, but it's Apple's most powerful tablet and furthers the 2-in-1 design ethos if you spring for the keyboard cover folio.

It has a laptop-like experience in design and performance, and the new Apple Pencil magnetically clips onto the frame of the new iPad Pro. With superb speakers and a great new screen-to-body ratio, it's hard not to fall in love with the finely crafted hardware design.

However, there are setbacks for the iPad Pro 11 that you should be aware of. iPadOS is better than previous versions of Apple's tablet software when you're trying to multitask and perform laptop-like tasks, but it is far from perfect.

Another strictly mobile challenge: it doesn't have a headphone jack. If you want the standard 3.5mm jack in a computer-like device, you'll want to spring for an actual computer or some other tablets.

Everything about the iPad Pro 11 makes it the best tablet experience if you're looking for an Apple-made slate - you'll just need to swallow the high price and keep in mind that it's not a true laptop replacement.

Read the full review: iPad Pro 11

iPad Pro 12.9 (2018)

The iPad Pro 12.9 (2018) isn't the very best tablet but it's not far off with its huge 12.9-inch screen. We haven't ranked it in the top spot mostly down to its extraordinarily high price.

Its like a giant digital canvas that fills your needs whether you need a personal workstation, easel, portable cinema, book-shaped loudspeaker, music mixing desk, or a range of other functions.

However, it's also extremely expensive, and doesn't feel like such a step up from the iPad Pro 11 (2018) as its higher price would suggest.

With it's unrivaled processing power, massive display, snappy operating system, and the fact you can use it with the Apple Pencil and Smart Keyboard, it's definitely a tablet you should consider if you've got money to burn – but you can do better if you're on a budget.

Read the full review: iPad Pro 12.9 (2018)

iPad 10.2 (2019)

For the average person, the iPad 10.2 is arguably the best choice for a tablet right now. It may not be the most powerful tablet on sale, but it's incredible value.

The iPad 10.2 replaces the very similar iPad 9.7 (2018) that featured a slightly smaller display - you can probably work that out from the names - but sports relatively similar spec for an affordable price. This isn't as high-tech as the iPad Pro models above, but it's still a remarkably useful tablet.

It comes with iPadOS right out of the box giving you all the latest features you'd expect from a tablet, plus it works with Apple Pencil and there's a Smart Keyboard you can also use to make this a productivity device.

It also has the same luxurious metal unibody as the rest of Apple's iPad range, though notably it's ever-so-slightly thicker than the other models of the tablet range at 7.5mm.

Battery life on this iPad is strong, it doesn't cost as much as a lot of other products in this list and it comes with a capable chipset powering it too. It's hard to go wrong if you're looking for an everyday tablet that doesn't have to sport the very best power and features.

Read the full review: iPad 10.2 (2019)

iPad Air (2019)

If you're looking for a good compromise between Apple's new Pro tablets and the base iPad 10.2, this is it. It's compatible with Apple's excellent Smart Keyboard Cover and priced right for students looking to take notes on a powerful laptop.

It does have Apple Pencil compatibility like all of Apple's newer tablets, but it's not the best tablet for artists.

The Pro versions support Apple Pencil Gen 2 with extra gesture features and magnetic charging. This iPad Pro 10.5 sticks with the older Gen 1 Pencil and has just two speakers instead of four. But everyone should be fine with the fast A12 chipset.

Read the full review: iPad Air (2019)

iPad Mini (2019)

Apple doesn't have a foldable phone, but if it did it might look something like the iPad mini 2019 when unfolded. It hasn't really changed since the last version almost four years ago, but it doesn't need to: we love the small size.

You can flip open the smart cover, scribble some notes, and toss it in a bag without too much worry.

Yes, the design is a little dated and there are thick bezels outlining this screen, but the price is right for a portable tablet with a lot of power. You really shouldn't consider buying any other small tablet on the market (notice: it's the only one on our best tablet list).

Samsung Galaxy Tab S6

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 is the best Android tablet available now – it's the newest slate from Samsung's Tab S line, and it comes with all the cutting-edge features you'd expect for such a premium device.

There are two rear cameras, which is impressive for a tablet, as well as a high-end processor and best-in-class AMOLED display, so it's a useful piece of kit. It also comes with an S Pen stylus for notes, doodles or sketches, and you can buy a smart keyboard for a laptop-like experience.

There are a few issues with the Galaxy Tab S6, like the lack of a headphone jack and an iffy user interface, but if you're looking for the best tablet and don't want an iPad, this is your best bet.

Read our full review: Samsung Galaxy Tab S6

iPad Pro 10.5

The iPad Pro 10.5-inch is one of the best tablets for anyone who wants a serious upgrade, even though the cheaper iPad 10.2 remains good enough for most people.

Apple's iPad Pro 10.5 has standout features that give it a productivity boost, including Apple Pencil and Smart Keyboard compatibility. With iPadOS on board this tablet is even a suitable laptop replacement for certain consumers.

The new ProMotion screen adds an impressive layer of fluidity to daily use and the smaller bezels means you're getting far more display in a footprint not much bigger than the iPad Pro 9.7.

It's an iPad for the professionals - but also one that media munchers will adore using.

Microsoft Surface Pro

Can a tablet really replace your laptop or home PC? That's still up for debate, but the best tablet trying to make that happen is the Microsoft Surface Pro. We’re surprised Microsoft has refrained from calling this the Surface Pro 5, as it's a big upgrade on the 4 - although it is rather expensive, like many tablets in this list.

It does a fine job with the full blown version of Windows 10, an integrated kickstand and optional keyboard attachment.

Great for for creative professionals, students and everyday folks alike, this is a top choice and one of the best Windows laptops we've reviewed.

Best tablet: Samsung Galaxy Tab S4

Samsung Galaxy Tab S4

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S4 is an upgrade over the Galaxy Tab S3 with an expanded 10.5-inch screen size and longer battery life, but it comes at a higher price and with a lofty promise to do so much more.

We really like the idea behind Samsung Dex for its desktop interface, but it's non-touch-friendly UI, performance issues, and questionable optional keyboard case prevent it from being a true desktop replacement.

If you're looking for a premium Android tablet the Galaxy Tab S4 used to top the billing, but it promises more than that and just doesn't deliver on everything. Don't get us wrong, the Tab S4 is indeed better than the Tab S3 and it's dropped in price since launch, but it's not the most premium Android tablet, with the Tab S6 higher in this ranking

Read the full review: Samsung Galaxy Tab S4

The Asus ZenPad 3S 10 isn't the most high spec tablet you can buy, but it's remarkably good for the price and that's a low price compared to a lot of other products you've read about on this list.

The super bright and beautiful display on the front of the device is one of the best you'll find on an Android tablet, and it costs a lot less than the two Samsung devices you've read about above.

Don't go for this if you're looking for top-end spec, but it's an option if you don't want to spend much and you want a slate just to play around with a few apps and watch videos.

How to watch Euro 96: complete England schedule and online streaming from anywhere

Posted: 11 May 2020 08:43 AM PDT

Football's socially distancing its way home this week, with ITV hosting a complete re-airing of the 1996 European Championships this May. Here's how to watch Euro 96 and stream every classic England match online for free no matter where you in the world today - plus the full ITV Hub Euro 96 match schedule.

Whether this is a blessing or a curse will depend on how stoical you're able to remain about football. On the one hand, it's a great way to soften the blow of Euro 2020 being delayed until next year. On the other hand...many of us know all too well how Euro 96 ended for England and the 14 other teams who failed to lift the trophy at Wembley that summer.

Yet whatever the result, Euro 96 still holds a special place in the hearts and minds of many fans.

Maybe it's because it was the last time England hosted a major international football tournament. Maybe it was that Gazza goal. Maybe you simply liked singing along to 'Three Lions', the ultimate footballing anthem, as warbled by Baddiel, Skinner and The Lightning Seeds - which somehow just seemed to perfectly capture the Cool Britannia mood at its peak.

Or maybe, it's because you're a German and you know how this all ends. Whatever the case, we're all one now - and any football on TV is a good thing.

With that in mind, here's how to watch Euro 96 Relived on ITV and stream every classic match online for free - starting with England vs Switzerland.

How to watch Euro 96: England vs Switzerland on ITV and online with ITV Hub

How to watch Euro 96 Relived online from abroad

While anyone in the UK will find it easy to watch Euro 96 Relived on ITV this May, footy fans elsewhere in the world may struggle to tune in because of geo-blocking.

If this is the case, anyone from the UK who's currently abroad and holds a valid TV license in Blighty could consider using a VPN. This nifty bit of software changes your IP address so that you can access all the content and services you already pay for back home - but from anywhere in the world.

Euro 96 on ITV: complete schedule and times

Whether you want to relive the heroics of a particular country or just want to see some bloody football on your TV, here's the full schedule for ITV's Euro 96 replay this May - remember that if geo-blocking stops you from tuning in as you normally would at home, utilising a quality VPN should help you get back to the goals in no time at all.
