Apple : Sony’s 8K TV pricing is tempting, but can it take on Samsung?

Apple : Sony’s 8K TV pricing is tempting, but can it take on Samsung?

Sony’s 8K TV pricing is tempting, but can it take on Samsung?

Posted: 22 May 2020 02:09 PM PDT

[Update: We now have official pricing from Sony UK on the Sony ZH8 – the 75-inch model will cost £5,999 while the 85-inch comes in at £8,999.]

The Sony Z8H is set to be the company’s flagship 8K TV for 2020 – unavoidably, given it’s the only Sony 8K TV releasing this year. Confirmation of its pricing, though, brings up the awkward question of how the Z8H can compete with the multiple 8K sets already being put out by other TV brands; namely, Samsung and LG.

The Sony Z8H comes in a 75-inch and 85-inch size, costing $7,000 / £5,999 for the former and $10,000 / £8,999 for the latter.

Considering that last year's Sony Z9G model started at $13,000 / £14,000, it's a massive saving – roughly half the price – which makes it all the more incredible that other TV brands are still undercutting it.

That’s because both Samsung and LG have pushed forward with multiple 8K TVs for their 2020 lineups, with both offering three distinct models to choose from.

While that variety may make it harder to choose an 8K set, it does enable both TV makers to offer a range of price points, making Sony’s single 8K model look positively uncompetitive in comparison.

This year’s new Samsung TVs include the flagship Q950TS QLED, the slightly less fancy Q900TS, and Q800TS – all of which feature 8K resolution. The cheapest Q800TS model also starts at just $3,499 / £3,999 (around AU$5,300), which is a fraction of the amount that Sony’s Z8H will cost.

Unlike Sony, Samsung is also offering all three of its 8K sets at 65-inch sizes, inevitably bringing down the cost and making an 8K purchase more feasible for countless more homes.

LG, on the other hand, has the advantage of being the only major TV brand to offer an 8K OLED – the LG Signature ZX – which will be the go-to for those with the cash to splash, starting at £24,999 (around $30,100 / AU$51,000) for an 88-inch model.

LG’s 8K LCDs, however, are comparable in price with Sony, with the LG Nano99 retailing at £5,499 (around $6,800 / AU$11,300) for a 75-inch display, and an additional 65-inch model expected in June to lower that cost further.

8K resolution still has an image problem, with many viewing it (perhaps fairly) as an unnecessary technology for today's TV viewers. While we’re expecting good things when we get to review the Z8H ourselves, LG and Samsung are both doing more to normalize the market and offer more practical buying options.

LG offers the only 8K OLED, but good luck affording it

Lost in an 8K sea

The question of which 8K TV to get is still an issue that won’t affect many in 2020, given the relatively small size of the market. With Samsung and LG pushing hard on both price, variety, and the model sizes available – not forgetting Samsung’s astonishingly small 55-inch 8K QLED from last year – Sony’s single offering could well be left out in the cold.

That would be a shame, because the Sony Z9G – the company’s debut 8K set – was startlingly impressive, with the upscaling ability, vivid HDR, and capable viewing angles to make it a hugely sensible 8K purchase. Unless Sony finds a unique selling point for its own brand of 8K, though, this year may well see it fall behind the machinations of the competition.

VPN downloads soar following new China law

Posted: 22 May 2020 01:03 PM PDT

VPN downloads in Hong Kong have soared following the news that China will propose a new national security law that will give it even greater control over the city.

NordVPN, Surfshark and ProtonVPN are just a few of the VPN providers whose apps are quickly moving up the charts in the top free apps section in the Google Play Store in Hong Kong.

Unlike in China where residents rely on VPN services to get around the country's Great Firewall, Hong Kong currently maintains an open internet with few restrictions on free speech online. Many foreign social networks and services including Twitter, Facebook, YouTube and more that are blocked in China are legal in Hong Kong, though residents fear they may not be for long.

China's new national security law is expected to pass when the country's parliament holds its annual meeting from May 22 to May 28. Privacy advocates are concerned that the law could lead to increased surveillance and censorship in Hong Kong, hence the rush by residents to download VPNs.

Surge in VPN downloads

According to NordVPN's head of public relations, Laura Tyrell the company's VPN app was downloaded 120 times more on Thursday than it was the day before. However, she noted that spikes in demand for VPNs are not unusual especially when a government announces an increase in surveillance, internet restrictions or other types of constraints. NordVPN saw similar spikes in sales in the US when the it repealed net neutrality and in the UK when the law dubbed 'The Snoopers' Charter' was passed.

At the same time, Surfshark reported a 700 percent surge in sales in Hong Kong. In a blog post, cybersecurity adviser at the company, Naomi Hodges explained that Hong Kong residents feel threatened by the new law, saying:

“We saw an incredible surge of user growth in Hong Kong directly after the official statement was made public. It’s clear that the people in Hong Kong feel their freedom is being directly threatened.”

Within 48 hours of the announcement of China's new national security law, the number of people visiting ProtonVPN in Hong Kong increased by 1000 percent, marking one of the largest spikes the company has ever seen. Founder and CEO of ProtonVPN, Dr. Andy Yen explained in a press release that he started the company's VPN service to defend users' fundamental rights, saying:

“We created ProtonVPN, and ProtonMail before that, in order to defend fundamental rights such as democracy, privacy and freedom of speech. We believe that the citizens of Hong Kong, just like all people around the world, should have the right to exercise these freedoms. Proton has an office in Taiwan so we feel solidarity with our user community in Hong Kong, and a duty to help uphold our shared values."

How to watch BGT 2020: live stream Britain's Got Talent online anywhere free

Posted: 22 May 2020 12:20 PM PDT

Forget your real world woes and get stuck into some classic light weekend entertainment  - courtesy of ITV, Saturday nights, and the 14th series of Britain's Got Talent. Our guide explains how to watch this week's BGT auditions and stream Britain's Got Talent 2020 live from the UK - and nearly anywhere else in the world - for free.

Simon Cowell, David Walliams, Alesha Dixon and Amanda Holden are all back behind the judges' desk this year, while Ant and Dec return to host BGT all the way from the the auditions to the live shows.

While the competition's early stages were all completed before the coronavirus lockdown and will air as normal, this year's live shows have been postponed by ITV - potentially as far back as the winter - due to the Covid-19 pandemic

A promo clip released ahead of the new series revealed a string of hopefuls set to appear on the show, including a daredevil motorbike riders, dancing gymnasts and a Donald Trump lookalike in pink tights. It gets said a lot, but we really can't wait!

Last year's winner was 90-year-old singing sensation Colin Thackery who has gone on to release his own album and performed on The Royal Variety Show in front of members of the Royal Family. Not bad!

Which would-be stars will be plucked from obscurity to super-stardom this time round? Find out by following our guide below to stream Britain's Got Talent 2020 live online – no matter where in the world you are, we'll show how to watch BGT anywhere for free.

How to watch BGT live: stream Britain's Got Talent 2020 for free in the UK

As in previous years, Britain's Got Talent will be shown in the UK on ITV1. That means you'll be able to watch the show live via your TV aerial connection or online using the ITV Hub website. The ITV Hub app is also available for Android and iOS smartphones and tablets and will also let you watch ITV content on the go, including Britain's Got Talent 2020.

And if you ever miss a few episodes, don't panic as all previous instalments will be available on catch up via the service. Viewers with a recent smart TV should also be able to find a dedicated ITV Hub option within its apps. The service is free to use - however, you will need to register with ITV before being accessing show and hold a valid TV license.

Alternatively, there's also online streaming TV service TVPlayer.com, which has all of the UK's freeview channels including ITV in one place. This means you can catch the show on TV, computer, tablet and smartphone for free if you're in the UK - or subscribe to TVPlayer Plus if you want to record it and watch later.

How to watch Britain's Got Talent live anywhere in the world

For those outside of the UK that don't want to miss a second of the Britain's Got Talent auditions, your best bet is a VPN. This means that if you've mismatched a holiday or you're temporarily out of the country on worj, don't panic - you can still get your BGT fix, you just need an internet connection.  Yeah, we know - a trip to Bognor sounds positively exotic right now, but normality will one day resume and who knows? You may be one of the hundreds of thousands of Brits currently stranded abroad.

Once you get the right VPN you can enjoy a secure and speedy connection, even on open Wi-Fi networks like hotels, enabling you to tune in and watch BGT online for free just like you would at home. Even if you're not that tech-savvy, don't worry - getting a VPN is super simple and we've outlined how to do it in three easy steps below.

The best VPN for China 2020

Posted: 22 May 2020 11:21 AM PDT

It's no wonder that VPNs are so popular in China - while the 'Great Firewall of China' is starting to look less imposing than it once was, there's still massive blocking in place for residents of (and visitors to) China.

Yep, the the aggressive state blocking of certain websites by the China government has eased somewhat in recent months. But if you've had to travel to the country in the last few years - either for work or leisure - you'll be well aware of how tight the state continues to keeps its internet - and now it's threatening to residents of Hong Kong, too. That's why getting the best VPN has become invaluable for residents and visitors to obtain access to restricted online content.

The use of a Virtual Private Network has become a more and more commonly used method for expats and those in academic circles in China to get around the state's very strict policies regarding online content. So if you're looking to access a restricted website then downloading a VPN in China is a solid solution.

Of course the country isn't happy about the use of VPN software, enacting a ban last year - although it remains unclear how (or indeed, whether) users will be punished for using an ‘unauthorized’ software. But many VPN providers are continuing to sell to people within China and we’ve picked out five top-notch efforts for your use.

The best China VPN 2020 - Get 3 months free with an annual plan

ExpressVPN is one of the most popular VPNs in China, and it’s a go-to provider for many because it deftly navigates around the Great Firewall. Express' wide array of server locations is a big plus, with Hong Kong, Taiwan and Japan-based servers being especially relevant in this case.

ExpressVPN offers consistent and reliable performance, with smart dedicated apps for most devices including routers. For any trouble that might occur, there’s round-the-clock live chat and email support available from China (the website is not blocked).

This provider actively monitors its network for China accessibility and ensures that its software stays ahead of the censors’ efforts to block connections. Under the hood, ExpressVPN uses obfuscation protocols and advanced technology to provide the best possible experience for users in China.

The 30-day money-back guarantee at least gives you some fall-back, and the year-long plan provides the best value for money. The packages available are:

NordVPN has dedicated an entire team to the pursuit of getting around website blocking in countries like Saudi Arabia, Iran and, yes, China. It actively monitors connectivity and then works to carry out any necessary actions to bypass any new blocks.

It's that kind of commitment to bypassing the Great Firewall that makes Nord such an attractive option. It has obfuscated servers in nearby territories such as Japan and Hong Kong, with its Double VPN feature for further anonymity still available in Taiwan. Those local servers should mean more stability and speed when you're logging in from China.

Live chat support isn't as available as with some other VPNs, but query submissions online are answered pretty quickly. Handy if you run in to any problems. And if you're still a bit unsure about whether NordVPN is right for you, there's a 30-day money-back guarantee.

Surfshark - China VPN

Largely thanks to its great value price points and user-friendly interface, British Virgin Islands-based Surfshark has really risen up our rankings of late. And it has certainly improved its Firewall of China fighting credentials, too.

Like any good VPN these days, Surfshark has loads of servers - over 1,000, in fact - making it a great choice for making a location change to an IP address somewhere else on the world. And if that sounds like something that would be complicated to do, fear not...Surfshark is among the best around for keeping things simple and straightforward, with easy-to-follow buttons ans instructions like its 'Quick connect' function.

If privacy and security while in China are your major concerns, then Surfshark lives up to that requirement, too. It includes OpenVPN UDP and TCP, IKEv2 security protocols, AES-256 encryption, and a kill switch in place in case your connection fails. There's also a private DNS and a double VPN hop for additional security.

Despite the low pricing, Surfshark makes its service available to unlimited simultaneously connected devices. Very impressive value.

One of the main advantages of VyprVPN is its proprietary Chameleon security protocol which can help bypass VPN blocking, scrambling OpenVPN packet metadata to ensure it’s safe from the tendrils of deep packet inspection.

VyprVPN is a tier-1 VPN network, which means the outfit owns all of its servers. There are enough of them to ensure good performance (14 are located in Asia), along with solid support for mobile operating systems, and 24/7 live chat for troubleshooting.

The much-praised Chameleon protocol is excluded from the basic plan, which offers three simultaneous connections. On top of that, it is expensive, and there is no refund, but you do have a 30-day money back guarantee. Despite the cost, what’s on offer here could well be worth paying for – your best bet is the annual Premium plan to make sure you get the benefit from Chameleon, and save the most money. The packages available are:

Hotspot Shield - China VPN

In VPN circles, Hotspot Shield is probably best known for its market-leading free version. But it's clearly been putting in the hard yards to improve its premium version, too, and it has managed to get around all the blocking attempts in China.

It may sound like something out of an 80s action film, but Hotspot's 'Catapult Hydra' protocol is one of its MVP features and helps the service perform at an extraordinary speed - even when we tested some of the farthest out server locations. Handy if you're in China but are looking to connect back to the US, UK or pretty much anywhere else it has a server location.

How to choose the best VPN for China

Dealing with this level of censorship of the net is far from easy, but some VPNs are willing to tackle the problem, having proven methods of maintaining uptime in a difficult online climate. Obviously you need to look for a capable provider in this respect, and pick out a reliable VPN, too.

Choosing one with high quality customer support is also important, for when downtime does rear its ugly head. And obviously the number and range of available servers (particularly those in Asia) will help you obtain a better, faster connection. Tight security and privacy is, as ever, a primary consideration as well.

Note: China’s official ban on VPNs came into effect on March 31 2018, but at the time of writing, we haven’t received notice from any VPN providers acknowledging that their offerings will be affected.

Best business monitors of 2020: the top displays for remote working

Posted: 22 May 2020 11:04 AM PDT

With the current spread of coronavirus (aka Covid-19), many companies are already making arrangements to accommodate remote working, to help reduce the spread of coronavirus while also helping to limit the impact on productivity.

Here we feature the best in business monitors - but also check out our feature on everything else you need to set up your home office - including the best office chairs.

Getting your hands on the best business monitors could be one of the most important purchases you can make today.

Anyone who spends their day working at their PC, staring at a monitor for hours on end, knows that having one of the best monitors with the highest quality is extremely important - and an excellent business monitor will satisfy this need.

Offering bright, clear and accurate colors is one requirement for the best business monitors. If you work in the creative industry where color and image accuracy is paramount, such as photo editing or video editing, then you'll certainly need a monitor that supports a variety of industry standards.

But, of course, the best business monitors are also capable of high resolutions for more workspace and better productivity. To further boost your productivity, some of the best business monitors also offer an ultra-wide 21:9 (or even higher) aspect ratio, which gives you even more space to work on.

We've listed below some of the best business monitors we could find, across a number of needs and budget requirements - check out the selection below.

Best business monitors at a glance

  1. Dell UltraSharp UP3218K
  2. Asus Designo Curve MX38VC
  3. BenQ PD3200U
  4. Philips Brilliance 499P9H
  5. Asus MB169B Plus
  6. BenQ GW2270H
  7. Acer V276HL
  8. LG 25UM58-P
  9. AOC U2879VF
  10. MSI Prestige PS341WU

The Dell UltraSharp UP3218K is the best business monitor we've ever tried, however it won't be for everyone. The huge 32-inch screen and 8K resolution makes it perfect for photographers and video editors, and the amount of screen real estate that high resolution offers makes it an excellent productivity tool. The screen is professionally calibrated so it looks amazing out of the box, but be warned: this is a very expensive monitor. Depending on your business, this will either be a brilliant buy, or an expensive folly.

Asus Designo Curve MX38VC

Ultrawide monitors have been around for a while: they’ve constantly made it on folks’ the best monitors list for a few years now, in fact. These wide monitors are lifesavers when it comes to productivity, and they’re only increasing in popularity. The Asus Designo Curve MX38VC, however, takes it to the next level. Not only does this monitor have a massive 3,840 x 1,600 resolution, but with USB-C compatibility and a Qi wireless charger built into the base, it’s going to be a workplace companion you won’t want to live without. It’s a tad pricey, and doesn’t feature HDR, but that’s a worthy sacrifice, especially for professionals.

If you're a design professional looking for a monitor that provides you accurate colors, a range of features, professional calibration and a decent price, then the BenQ PD3200U is definitely worth considering. At 32-inches this is a large screen, but it means the UHD resolution of 3,840 x 2,160 doesn't make things too difficult to see or use. It has a no-nonsense design, plenty of features, such as a dark room mode and a mode that makes using CAD programmes easier to view, and the price is also very tempting. If you have a desk big enough to hold it, the BenQ PD3200U could be the best business monitor for you.

If you're looking for an excellent productivity monitor that offers you huge amounts of space to work on, without having to resort to multiple monitors, then you'll want an ultra-wide monitor. The Philips Brilliance 499P9H takes ultra-wide to an extreme, offering a huge 32:9 aspect ratio over 49-inches of screen. It gives you a huge desktop to work on, which makes it an excellent choice for people who work with multiple apps open at once. It's a huge monitor that won't fit on everyone's desk, but it can actually save you space, as it means you don't have to have multiple monitors all hooked up to your PC at once.

Asus

When you think about a monitor, you don't just consider the screen, but also the cables and stand. In terms of the latter, the MB169B Plus is different – it is a portable USB-powered monitor which means that you can power it using a single USB 3.0 cable. It stands out thanks to a smart case that is an adjustable stand and a protective sleeve at the same time. With a full HD resolution and a 15.6-inch screen size, it will prove to be an invaluable accessory for those looking for extra real estate to work when away from their desks, or a presentation monitor for a small team. Bear in mind that you should be able to add a few to your PC should you wish.

benq

BenQ offers the most affordable full HD monitor with an HDMI connector and it doesn't look that bad. The company embraced the Bauhaus "less is more" philosophy to deliver "a celebration of minimalist" lifestyle. Those are their words, not ours. It has some standout features though; one that reduces flicker (PWM technology) and a low blue light mode which may help with headaches and sleeping disorders. The stand design gives it a more expensive feel and its three ports (including two HDMI ones) are worthy of a mention, as is the two-year warranty and the VESA wall mounting option.

Acer

To tackle spreadsheets without having to squint, a large screen is recommended and this Acer monitor will give you acres of space (nearly twice that of the ViewSonic monitor) for not a lot of money. It has a low response time, a VESA bracket, three ports including a DVI one and a three-year warranty. As expected it comes with a number of Acer features like the glare-reducing ComfyView and the Adaptive Contrast Management which modifies contrast in real-time. The stand and the bezel could do with some improvement but overall, it is a keenly priced monitor that will provide businesses with plenty of display area without an enormous outlay.

LG

Widescreen monitors have become mainstream, thanks to a gradual decrease in their prices, allowing businesses to fully embrace the concept of having a monitor that is far wider than it is high. The common perception is that gamers are the only ones to benefit from this. In truth even creative professionals and spreadsheet crunchers will appreciate the form factor. With a 21:9 aspect ratio, this affordable LG monitor can display 2560 x 1080 pixels on its 25-inch display. It offers splendid colour reproduction – thanks to the AH-IPS panel – and some cool features like Picture-in-Picture. Uniquely at this price, it offers two HDMI 2.0 ports but no other legacy ports.

AOC

This 4K monitor from AOC can display more than 8 million pixels at 60Hz, and is proof that ultra-high resolution displays are coming down in price while gaining some very useful features. This one for example comes with AMD's Freesync technology which reduces tearing. It also has a 1ms response time, 60Hz refresh rate and can even do Picture-in-Picture thanks to its four ports (including a DisplayPort and an HDMI 2.0 one). Sadly, it doesn't come with any VESA mount but at least its design and factory certified calibration make up for this.

MSI Prestige PS341WU

The MSI Prestige PS341WU is a cut above the 4K norm.

If you’re looking for a monitor that’s a cut above the 4K norm, then you’ve got the MSI Prestige PS341WU. Showing up any impeccable 4K monitor is by no means an easy feat, but this monitor does so with the huge 5K2K native resolution (and 21:9 ultrawide aspect ratio) of its luscious 34-inch IPS screen. It doesn’t come cheap, but it does have a great feature set to make up for that, including a Nano IPS panel with DCI-P3 color gamut, HDR support and comprehensive connectivity. All that packed in a beautiful white aesthetic, and you’ve got yourself one of the best business monitors of 2020.

How to watch Trolls World Tour: stream the new movie online anywhere

Posted: 22 May 2020 10:59 AM PDT

Is your living room ready to rock? You'd better check now, because Queen Poppy and her friends are back! The blockbuster sequel to one of 2016's biggest movies, the new Trolls film was released to VoD services early this year because of You Know What - so read on to find out how to watch Trolls World Tour and stream it online from anywhere.

Yes, the coronavirus pandemic has meant that the intended theatrical release of Trolls World Tour was canned - but the beat very much goes on for this music-focused follow up, as Poppy (Anna Kendrick) and Branch (Justin Timberlake) discover that they’re one of six different Troll tribes scattered across the world.

Each of the tribes are loyal to six different genres of music, but when a member of the hard-rock trolls attempts to destroy all other kinds of music, Poppy, Branch, and their new friends have to try and save the day.

Like the first Trolls movie, World Tour has a hit-packed soundtrack and features the single "The Other Side" by SZA and Justin Timberlake, along with new songs and classic tracks performed by Anna Kendrick, Anderson .Paak, HAIM, Kelly Clarkson, Dierks Bentley, and Rachel Bloom. We reckon kids and parents alike will be singing along in no time.

Alongside the likes of James Corden and Kunal Nayyar returning to voice familiar favorites Biggie and Guy Diamond, the likes of Sam Rockwell, Jamie Dornan, Mary J Blige, and the Prince of Darkness himself Ozzy Osbourne, all lending their dulcet tones this time out.

Read on to find out how to watch Trolls World Tour online and stream it from anywhere on earth - our guide explains all in language that's easy to understand.

How to watch Trolls World Tour from outside your country

While many of us are no doubt still at home, you may find yourself abroad during these unprecedented times - or in the near future, when restrictions are further lifted and global travel resumes in earnest. Unfortunately, when it comes to watching your usual streaming services from other countries, this isn't always possible due to annoying geo-blocking restrictions.

How to watch Normal People: stream the new show online from anywhere

Posted: 22 May 2020 10:45 AM PDT

Normal People took many people by surprise when it debuted earlier in the year, quickly establishing itself as a serious candidate for TV show of the year. The seamless transition of Sally Rooney's 2018 must-read novel to a critically-acclaimed 12-part series produced by Hulu and BBC Three has been something to behold - especially for the pessimists out there. But then with influential Irish indie director Lenny Abrahamson (Garage, Frank) at the helm, what else would you expect? Don't miss another moment of the drama - or catch up today if you haven't yet seen it. Here's how to watch Normal People online and stream every episode right now.

The show follows the rollercoaster relationship of Irish teenagers Connell (Paul Mescal) and Marianne (Daisy Edgar-Jones). They attend the same secondary school - or high school - in County Sligo, and later spend their university years together at Trinity College Dublin.

But while they're instinctively drawn to one and other, it's far from just craic between them. Marianne comes from a wealthy family who Connell's mother cleans for - and the two also blossom socially at different times. Connell is a big shot Gaelic football star at high school but becomes a fish out of water at university. Marianne, on the other hand, finds her feet at precisely the same time.

We won't give too much away, but it's safe to say that first the book and now the TV show put the insecurities of young people under the microscope in an illuminating way, sparking conversations about a number of important issues including depression, suicide and abuse - please bear this in mind before watching.

An instant entry into the best Hulu shows this May, read on as we explain all the easiest ways to watch Normal People online for free - stream the show in Ireland, the UK, US, Australia and many more countries by following the simple steps outlined below in our guide.

How to watch Normal People online from abroad

The coronavirus has stalled holidays and postponed work trips indefinitely, but international travel will resume one day - and you may even be stuck outside your country of origin, for whatever reason. If and when that's the case, you could be forgiven for wanting a taste of home comforts, especially during these difficult times.

If that means using the streaming services you normally would, geo-blocking can prove to be a major obstacle - but fortunately there's an easy solution. It's called a VPN and it's a handy trick that lets you get around digital borders and will allow you to watch Normal People by changing your IP address to your nation of residence. But which VPN is best for you?

The best gaming PC 2020: top desktops for PC gamers

Posted: 22 May 2020 10:25 AM PDT

It’s never been a better time to splurge on the best gaming PCs. Games have been pushing the boundaries of what a great looking and immersive title means, and to really get the most out of the best PC games, you’ll want a beast of a machine. Even if you’re not playing competitively, if you want to turn up the graphics without severely hampering gameplay, you’ll need something with some serious muscle.

Luckily, there are quite a few battle stations on that market that come with the newest and most cutting edge components, whether it’s Nvidia’s Super RTX graphics cards or AMD’s Navi cards. They can boot up and run graphics-intensive AAA games without so much as breaking a sweat. Not all of the best gaming PCs are expensive either, so it is possible to take one home without emptying out the bank account, as some of the best processors and best graphics cards come with a surprisingly reasonable price tag.

With all the options available these days, it’s easy to get overwhelmed. Let us help you decide with our selection of the best gaming PC. Whether it’s a budget option, one in a small form factor, or something with a spaceship-like design, there’s something for everyone.

Alienware Aurora R9

With Alienware Aurora R9, the manufacturer took things to a whole new level.

Alienware has a knack for concocting form factors you won’t see anywhere else, which makes its gaming laptops and desktops more appealing than their rivals. With Alienware Aurora R9, the manufacturer took things to a whole new level, design-wise. More importantly, it boasts configurations touting the most powerful internals right now. HP Omen Obelisk

This rectangular monster is definitely worthy of its moniker as it boasts lots of power.

This rectangular monster is definitely worthy of its moniker as it boasts lots of power… more than enough, in fact, for most gamers’ needs. When you’ve the funds for an upper-tier configuration, you’ll get a behemoth. Unfortunately, budget minded buyers will have to be satisfied with gameplay at medium settings, since the lower end models don’t pack the same firepower. Still, because of its high upgradability and tool-less design, such buyers are only an upgrade or two from the best gaming experience on Ultra or Max settings either. Plus, we’ve honestly seen more expensive machines for those specs.

It’s downright impressive how much power the MSI Trident A Plus boasts under the hood, especially considering its slim and small-ish form factor. The self-proclaimed most compact gaming desktop right now isn’t all talk, it walks the walk too with its 5.1 x 15.06 x 15.6-inch size. For superb performance, it offers 9th-generation Intel Core processors, up to Nvidia GeForce RTX 2080 graphics card and 16GB of memory. While it’s not necessarily kitted out, it still spells sheer power. This small yet mighty gaming PC also delivers 4K gaming experience, customizable Mystic Light RGB LED design and the Silent Storm Cooling 3.

Dell G5 Gaming Desktop

The Dell G5 boasts 9th-generation Intel chips as well as Nvidia's most powerful gaming GTX and RTX graphics cards.

A unique chassis coupled with a price to beat, Dell’s latest in its G series gaming PCs is a solid contender in budget gaming. The Dell G5 boasts 9th-generation Intel chips as well as Nvidia’s most powerful gaming GTX and RTX graphics cards, starting with an i3 processor and the GTX 1650 to handle many powerful games without burning a whole in your pocket. Of course, if you’ve got more case to spare, it’s VR ready configurations are also on hand, though even those are absolutely affordable.

Intel Ghost Canyon NUC

Intel’s NUC has come a long way from its humbler beginnings. For example, while the previous Hades Canyon didn’t come with a RAM or storage, the newer Ghost Canyon has both. In fact, not only does it have more offerings now in terms of specs, but it’s also highly configurable so you can personalize it to your liking before hitting that buy button. With 9th-generation Intel Core chips, up to 64GB of memory and up to 4TB dual storage, we’re all for it. The only catch is that it's pricier now as well. The lower configurations are still quite affordable, and a terrific option for the budget-conscious. However, you may want to stay away from the highest configurations.

Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080 release date, price and specs: all the RTX 3080 rumors

Posted: 22 May 2020 10:12 AM PDT

Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080 might only be a rumor right now. However, with it and the RTX 3000 line supposedly coming this year, speculation has ramped up for the next-generation of GPUs from Nvidia. Leaks about Nvidia Ampere have been rampant, with many speculating that it might be the graphics architecture for this upcoming slate of GPUs.

Even though Nvidia recently announced Ampere for Data Center with no mention of PC gaming or GeForce – much in the same way it did when Nvidia Volta preceded the Nvidia Turing graphics cards – that doesn’t mean that we won’t actually see the GeForce RTX 3080 this year.

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang has already said that the 7nm Ampere microarchitecture will be used for all of its next-generation graphics cards. That presumably means that the next GeForce cards will be Ampere-based as well and that the Q3 2020 release theory holds water. With AIB partners said to be clearing out their stock to prepare for an Nvidia Ampere launch and a new report saying that both AMD and Nvidia will release their next generation graphics cards in September, it’s definitely likely we’ll be seeing these cards on the shelves by October.

Since we’re only months away now from the RTX 3000’s rumored release date, there have been more detailed leaks and rumors popping up. There have been leaked benchmarks, such as an Nvidia GPU with 33 teraflops of theoretical floating point performance or one with 124 compute units, giving us clues as to what the Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080 might look like. Even a top-of-the-line consumer offering has been leaked, which could be the RTX 3080 Ti. We might be looking at the future of gaming on PC coming in 4K.

We’re keeping abreast of all the rumors, leaks, speculation and gossip, and will continue to update this page. Keep it bookmarked to learn what’s in store for Nvidia’s upcoming line of GPUs.

Cut to the chase

  • What is it? The next Nvidia GeForce flagship
  • When is it out? Possibly in August 2020
  • How much is it? Likely around the same price as the Nvidia GeForce RTX 2080

RTX 3080 rumors

RTX 3080 release date

For a while, the rumor mill was suggesting that we're going to see the next GeForce lineup make an appearance at GTC, or the GPU Technology Conference in March. But, Nvidia has since canceled its ‘exciting’ GTC graphics card revelations. Since then, Nvidia has officially announced the Nvidia Ampere for Data Center. And, as expected, it did so before the RTX 3000 lineup, just like when it launched Volta in May 2017 more than a year before Turing.

Luckily, it doesn’t seem like we have to wait until 2021 to get a glimpse of the next generation RTX cards. In the past, Nvidia GeForce lineups have been about two years apart. For instance, the Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 dropped back in May 2016, with the GeForce RTX 2080 succeeding it in August 2018. The time between the GTX 980 and GTX 1080 was a bit shorter, with the former arriving in September 2014. Still as a general rule, we've been able to historically count on there being a new lineup of graphics cards every couple of years.

Tweaktown has reported that Nvidia plans to unveil the Ampere GPU architecture in August this year and launch it in September at Computex 2020. This is highly likely, as it’s similar to how Nvidia launched Turing at Gamescom back in August 2018, and would mark a straight 2-year cycle for the current-generation cards. Furthermore, AIB partners are said to be clearing out their stock now, allegedly in preparation for an Nvidia Ampere launch in Q3 2020.

We’ve also heard that the Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080 Ti, which may be up to 40% faster than its predecessor and run with hugely fast boost clocks of up to 2.2GHz as well as 18Gbps video memory, could launch by the end of 2020. With how these things typically go, we won't actually know when the RTX 3080 is on its way until Nvidia is ready. In fact, we won't know if it'll even be called the RTX 3080.

RTX 3080 rumors

RTX 3080 price

Because we're so far out from a potential GeForce RTX 3080 release, we obviously have no idea how much it will cost. But, that doesn't mean we can't do a bit of speculation about it.

Nvidia Turing graphics cards saw a large price jump over their Pascal predecessors, and we'd almost expect the same to happen with whatever comes next. However, we have heard some rumors that suggest that the next-generation graphics cards will be more affordable. That said, this rumor revolves around another rumor that the cards will be manufactured using Samsung 7nm EUV (extreme ultraviolet) manufacturing process. We'd take that one with a grain of salt.

One thing that absolutely needs to be taken into consideration when talking about RTX 3080 price is 'Big Navi'. When Nvidia Turing hit the streets it was basically completely unopposed by AMD. Even when Team Red dropped the Radeon VII in February 2019 it was totally incapable of dethroning the RTX 2080. Competition has definitely heated up since then, though.

Both the Radeon RX 5700 series and the Radeon RX 5600 XT have caused Nvidia to drop prices in response, and the threat of 'Big Navi' supposedly beating the RTX 2080 Ti by 30% could force Nvidia to drop its prices to compete. Still, we won't know the RTX 3080's price until we see Nvidia lift the veil – or at least until more substantial leaks surface.

RTX 3080 rumors

RTX 3080 specs

We have seen a lot of really vague speculation and rumors surrounding supposed RTX 3080 specs, but there are some constants: that it’ll be 7nm and will be faster than the RTX 2080. That second one should be super obvious, of course – why would Nvidia put out new graphics cards if they're not significantly faster?

The other rumor, the 7nm manufacturing process, is much more interesting. If you've been following the AMD vs Intel smackdown over the last year, you're probably aware that one of the things that's kept AMD on top of the CPU world is the fact that it's been able to fully adopt 7nm while Intel, at least when it comes to desktop, being stuck at 14nm. If Nvidia is able to adopt a 7nm manufacturing process for the RTX 3080, AMD won't have such an easy time dunking on it.

If these rumors are actually true, it would mean that Nvidia could significantly boost performance - up to 50% according to some rumors - while boosting power efficiency significantly. When combined with DLSS, which will absolutely be a part of whatever graphics cards Nvidia puts out next, could potentially lead to 4K graphics cards being available in the mid-range sector for the first time.

Exactly how much faster and more powerful the RTX 3080 would be, it’s too early to tell. However, there’s a Nvidia GPU with a whopping 33 teraflops, 24GB of memory and 1.11GHz clock that was recently spotted in a benchmark. While this card may be too powerful to be the RTX 3080, it could also hint towards what the Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080 may look like.

We have even seen some more specific spec leaks, notably one from hardware leaker KittyCorgi, who suggests that Nvidia's next-generation flagship could potentially come with up to 20GB of VRAM. Of course, this is a leak we'd take with a hefty dose of salt, but it could potentially prove our theory that the next graphics architecture Nvidia announces will in fact be for professionals. The Quadro RTX 6000, for instance, packs 24GB of GDDR6 - but it also costs $4,000 (£4,066, AU$6,999).

Right now, if we had to put our money down, we'd suggest that these leaked specs are for an Nvidia Quadro or Tesla card, or maybe even the follow-up to the Nvidia Titan V. Whatever the GeForce RTX 3080 looks like, we seriously doubt we've seen it yet.

Meanwhile, a massive leak from Moore’s Law is Dead reveals a GA102 GPU that will theoretically be Nvidia’s top-end Ampere consumer offering. It’s highly likely going to be named the RTX 3080 Ti, and looks to be an out-and-out beast of a graphics card with hugely fast boost clocks of up to 2.2GHz, offering 21 TFlops of raw performance, 18Gbps video memory – 864GB/s of memory bandwidth, around 40% more than the 2080 Ti (at 616GB/s), and PCIe 4.0 support.

Other lesser graphics cards in the 3000 range have been revealed as well, and they may push those boost clocks to 2.5GHz. Moore’s Law is Dead argues that 4K graphics will become the mainstream standard with these new Ampere models.

Don't worry, though. We'll keep our eyes open for the next generation of GeForce, and we'll be sure to update this article as soon as we see any juicy RTX 3080 spec rumors.

Disney Plus UK: how to sign up, 2020 movies, Hamilton and more explained

Posted: 22 May 2020 10:05 AM PDT

Disney Plus UK is around two months old, and you've now had plenty of opportunities to dive into the streaming service's rich archive of movies and shows. You can now watch the entire Skywalker Saga on Disney Plus with the release of The Rise of Skywalker, and on June 5 UK subscribers can also enjoy Maleficent: Mistress of Evil.

For just £5.99 a month, or £59.99 for the year, UK viewers have access to a huge library of stellar shows and films from Disney, Marvel, National Geographic, and more. If you're a Netflix subscriber you know the deal here: for the relatively modest monthly fee, you can watch as many of the included Disney Plus UK shows you want until you cancel.

In our Disney Plus UK guide, we'll explain the price of the service, the shows available to stream, which movie are coming soon and which devices support the Disney Plus app.

The Mandalorian has ended in the UK, with season 2 on its way later this year. But there's plenty to look forward to on Disney Plus UK, including the original cast recording of Hamilton in July 2020, as well as the incoming releases of Frozen 2, Maleficent: Mistress of Evil and Artemis Fowl. Subscribe here, at monthly or yearly tiers:

Below, we'll talk you through everything we know about Disney Plus in the UK, including the price, compatible devices, free trial, shows, movies and more. You can also read our impressions of Disney Plus UK for in-depth analysis of the service.

How to sign up to Disney Plus

To get Disney Plus, all you have to do is head to the Disney Plus website, create an account and enter your billing details to get started. With your login details to hand, you'll then want to download Disney Plus onto the device of your choice, say a smartphone, smart TV, games console or tablet. Scroll down for a list of compatible devices.

Not sure you want it yet? Head here to grab a 7-day free trial of Disney Plus. It's easy to cancel if you don't want to commit (here's how you cancel Disney Plus).

Frozen 2 (2019)

Hamilton is coming to Disney Plus UK in July

The original Broadway recording of Hamilton will arrive on Disney Plus on July 3 2020, it's been announced. This is a huge deal, as it was originally destined for cinemas in 2021. Instead, you can enjoy it safely at home for a reasonable price.

Disney Plus UK 2020 movies: Maleficent: Mistress of Evil, Artemis Fowl, Frozen 2 and Onward (hopefully)

With the launch out of the way, Disney Plus's next big original release is Artemis Fowl, the Kenneth Branagh-directed movie based on Eoin Colfer's popular book series. You'll be able to stream that on Disney Plus UK on June 12, the same as other territories. The movie was originally scheduled for a cinematic release, but since all cinemas are closed, this is now a major Disney Plus exclusive.

Before that, Maleficent: Mistress of Evil will come to Disney Plus UK on June 5.

In terms of other big releases, Frozen 2 is coming to Disney Plus on July 17. And even though Onward released in the US in April 2020, it still has no release date on Disney Plus UK.

The original movie Secret Society of Second Born Royals comes to Disney this summer, too.

Disney Plus: UK price and subscription tiers explained

Disney Plus costs £59.99 for an annual subscription, or £5.99 per month. These are the two available tiers, and you can cancel at any time. Unlike in the US, where it's bundled in with ESPN and Hulu, in the UK Disney Plus is a standalone service.

Either tier gets you four concurrent streams, unlimited downloads with a maximum of 10 devices and the option to create seven profiles.

In the US, you can gift a year of Disney Plus either digitally or in the form of physical cards, but no such option has been announced for the UK yet.

Thor: Ragnorok (2017)

Disney Plus supports 4K and HDR streams

Disney Plus indeed supports 4K and HDR. When you're in the app, head over to the 'details' tab of a given movie or show and you'll see a section that says 'available in the following formats', which will explain if the content in question features 4K Ultra HD and HDR.

You now have every Star Wars and Marvel movie to watch in 4K with HDR. Enjoy!

Disney Plus UK: compatible devices and apps

Disney Plus has launched on pretty much any device you can name in the UK, including mobile devices, games consoles, streaming media devices and smart TVs. You can take Disney Plus shows on the go, too, downloading as many movies and shows as you can fit on your device, as long as you have an active subscription and connect to the internet every 30 days.

Disney Plus UK has launched on LG TVs, Sky Q, Apple TV, Roku streaming devices, Android (5.0 and later), iOS (11.0 and later), PS4, Xbox One, LG WebOS smart TVs, Samsung Tizen smart TVs, Google Chromecast, Now TV, and Amazon's Fire range of streaming devices.

One notable exception is the Nintendo Switch, which is still pretty poor at supporting streaming services.

Phillips' Android-based smart TVs support Disney Plus too. Your Samsung TV may be able to get Disney Plus, as well. Read our guide and discover if your TV can support it.

Disney Plus UK: shows and movies, including The Simpsons

The Mandalorian (2019)

In the UK, all new episodes of original shows on Disney Plus will be released at 8am each Friday

Other originals include the live-action Lady and the Tramp, High School Musical: The Series, Encore!, The World According to Jeff Goldblum, Togo, Diary of a Future President, Forky Asks a Question and The Imagineering Story.

Disney Plus app links: how to download Disney Plus

You should be able to search for and download Disney Plus on the device of your choice, but here are some app links if you're having a bit of trouble.

Disney Plus: future shows and movies

In the future, Disney Plus is getting plenty of big exclusive shows. From the Marvel Cinematic Universe side of things, new shows include The Falcon and the Winter Soldier (August), WandaVision (November), Loki (2021), Hawkeye (2021) and animated show What If?. It's possible these dates could be affected by the current global health crisis, although Disney hasn't changed the dates yet.

Further off, expect TV shows based on Moon Knight, Ms Marvel and She-Hulk. Unlike Marvel's Netflix shows, too, these will canonically be part of the MCU, and feature actors crossing over between the movies and these TV series.

Lucasfilm has a second season of The Mandalorian coming in October 2020, then further off it's making shows featuring Ewan McGregor's Obi-Wan Kenobi and Diego Luna's Cassian Andor from Rogue One.

It's likely you can expect recent Disney-associated movies like Pixar's Onward, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker and Maleficent: Mistress of Evil on there before the end of 2020. In the US, Onward arrives early on April 3. Hopefully we'll see it in the UK before long.

Disney Plus is on Sky Q and Now TV (finally)

Disney Plus has made a deal with Sky to host Disney Plus on its Sky Q platform at launch. That means you can watch Disney Plus as well as your other Sky content – it'll just be added to your Sky bill. According to Pocket Lint, full integration into the Sky Q platform won't come until April, but you can watch Disney Plus through an app on your Sky Q box.

As of April 23, Disney Plus is also available on Now TV devices. It took a bit longer, meaning we had to wait a month after Disney Plus' UK launch, but now any of you using a Now TV streaming stick will be able to access the app fine.

Best SEO tools of 2020: free and paid Search Engine Optimization software

Posted: 22 May 2020 10:05 AM PDT

At its heart SEO (Search Engine Optimization) developed as an extension to web accessibility by following HTML 4 guidelines, in order to better identify the purpose and content of a document.

This meant ensuring that web pages had unique page titles that properly reflected their content, as well as keyword headings to be better highlight the content of individual pages, and that other tags were treated the same accordingly.

This was necessary, not least because web developers were often only focused on whether their coding worked, rather than the user experience, let alone following web publishing guidelines.

This slowly changed as it became increasingly known that search engines used these "on-page" signals to provide their "Search Engine Results Pages" (SERPs) - and that there was an advantage to ranking higher on these to tap into free and natural organic traffic.

The internet has evolved a lot since those early days, and major search engines such as Google now process far more "off page" information when determining their search results, not least by using semantic processing, collating user data, and applying neural networks for the machine learning of patterns, trends, and personal preferences.

Even still, the core ideals of SEO remain the same as they always have - that of ensuring pages have the correct tags for targeting keywords, not just for natural search results, but also for PPC (Pay Per Click) and other marketing campaigns, where call-to-action (CTA) and conversion rates are essential indicators of success.

But how does a business know which keywords to target on its sales pages? How does a website filter transactional traffic from general site visitors? And how can that business increase its ability to capture targeted traffic from across the internet? Here we list a number of tools that will help do exactly that.

Best SEO tools - at a glance

  1. Google Search Console
  2. SEMrush SEO toolkit
  3. SEO spider
  4. Majestic SEO Tools
  5. Moz Pro

Google Search Console (GSC) is an excellent way for newbie webmasters to get started with SEO.

Even if you're not headstrong on SEO, whatever the size of your site or blog, Google's laudable Search Console (formerly Webmaster Central) and the myriad user-friendly tools under its bonnet should be your first port of call.

The suite of tools gives you valuable information about your site at a glance: it can assess your site's performance and observe potential problems to troubleshoot (like negative spammy links), help you ensure your site is Google-friendly and monitor Google's indexing of your site.

You can even report spam and request reconsideration if your site has incurred a penalty. Plus, if you don't refer to their Webmaster Guidelines now and again, well, you've only yourself to blame if you go wrong. Search Console is constantly updated, and new features are on the way, such as new URL inspection tool or the new sitemaps report.

Help is available via the Webmasters Help Community, a place for webmaster's to connect and share troubleshooting and performance tips.

SEMrush SEO toolkit was originally developed in 2008 by SEMrush. In 2018, the project received funding of $40 million for expansion.

The keyword research tool is accessible from SEMrush's super elaborate dashboard. You can view detailed keyword analysis reports as well as a summary of any domains you manage.

More crucially, the SEO toolkit allows you to compare the performance of your pages to see how you rank against the competition. For instance, you can analyze backlinks from other websites to yours. (this process is sometimes as 'link building').

Traffic analytics helps to identify your competitors' principle sources of web traffics, such as the top referring sites. This enables you to drill down to the fine details of how both your and your competitors' sites measure up in terms of average session duration and bounce rates. Additionally, "Traffic Sources Comparison" gives you an overview of digital marketing channels for a bunch of rivals at once. For those new to SEO slang 'bounce rates' are the percentage of visitors who visit a website then leave without accessing any other pages on the same site.

The domain overview does much more than provide a summation of your competitors' SEO strategies. You can also detect specific keywords they've targeted as well as access the relative performance of your domains on both desktop and mobile devices.

SEMrush has received many positive mentions online but has been critiqued for use of SEO jargon such as 'SERP' which may alienate inexperienced users. A 'Pro' subscription costs $99.95 per month which includes access to all SEO tools.

A 14-day free trial is available for Techradar readers to try out the service.

SEO Spider was originally created in 2010 by the euphemistically named "Screaming Frog". This rowdy reptile's clients include major players like Disney, Shazam and Dell.

One of the most attractive feature of SEO Spider is its ability to perform a quick search of URL's, as well as crawl your site to check for broken pages. This saves you the trouble of manually clicking each link to rule out '404 errors'.

The tool also allows you to check for pages with missing title tags, duplicated meta tags, tags of the wrong length, as well as check the number of links placed on each page

There is both a free and paid version of SEO Spider. The free version contains most basic features such as crawling redirects but this is limited to 500 URLs. This makes the 'Lite' version of SEO Spider suitable only for smaller domains. The paid version is $180 per year and includes more advanced features as well as free tech support.

Majestic SEO tools has consistently received praise from SEO veterans since its inception in 2011. This also makes it one of the oldest SEO tools available today.

The tools main focus is on backlinks, which represent links between one website and another. This has a significant influence on SEO performance and as such, Majestic has a huge amount of backlink data.

Users can search both a 'Fresh Index' which is crawled and updated throughout the day, in addition to an 'Historic Index' which has been praised online for its lightning retrieval speed. One of the most popular features is the 'Majestic Million' which displays a ranking of the top 1 million websites.

The 'Lite' version of Majestic costs $50 per month and incorporates useful features such as a bulk backlink checker, a record of referring domains, IP's and subnets as well as Majestic's integrated 'Site Explorer'. This feature which is designed to give you an overview of your online store has received some negative comments due to looking a little dated. Majestic also has no Google Analytics integration.

Moz Pro

Moz Pro is a platform of SEO tools that aim to help you increase traffic, rankings, and visibility across search engine results.

Key tools include the ability to audit your own site using the Moz Pro spider, which should highlight potential issues and recommend actionable insights. There's also the ability to track your site rankings over hundreds or even thousands of keywords per website.

There's also a keyword research tool to help determine which keywords and keyword combinations may be the best for targeting, and there's also a backlink analysis tool that mixes a combination of metrics including anchor text in links as well as estimated domain authority.

Pricing for Moz Pro begins at $99 per month for the Standard plan which covers the basic tools. The Medium plan offers a wider range of features for $149 per month and a free trial is available. Note that plans come with a 20% discount if paid for annually. Additional plans are available for agency and enterprise needs, and there are additional paid-for tools for local listings and STAT data analysis.

Even if you don't sign up to Moz Pro, a number of free tools are available. There's also a huge supporting community ready to offer help, advice, and guidance across the breadth of search marketing issues.

Best free SEO tools

Although we've highlighted the best paid-for SEO tools out there, a number of websites offer more limited tools that are free to use. Here we'll look at the free options.

1. SEOQuake

SEOquake is one of the most popular toolbar extension. It allows you to view multiple search engine parameters on the fly and save and compare them with the results obtained for other projects. Although the icons and numbers that SEOquake yields might be unintelligible to the uninformed user, skilled optimisers will appreciate the wealth of detail this add-on provides.

Gauge details about number of visitors and their country, get a site's traffic history trended on a graph, and more. The toolbar includes buttons for a site's Google index update, backlinks, SEMRush ranking, Facebook likes, Bing index, Alexa ranks, web archive age and a link to the Whois page. There’s also a useful cheat sheet and diagnostics page to have a bird’s view of potential issues (or opportunities) affecting a particular page or site.

2. Google AdWords keyword planner

Knowing the right keywords to target is all-important when priming your web copy. Google's free keyword tool, part of Adwords, couldn't be easier to use. Plug your website URL into the box, start reviewing the suggested keywords and off you go. Jill Whalen, CEO of HighRankings.com is a fan and offers advice to those new to keyword optimisation: "make sure you use those keywords within the content of your website."

However, while useful for keyword research purposes it's important to realize the numbers provided are approximations rather than exact figures, and intended to provide a guide to popularity rather than exact real-time search volume.

3. Google Optimise

Yet another Google tool on that list (not a surprise isn’t it). Optimise is not for the faint hearted and will make even seasoned SEO experts uncomfortable. SEO isn't all about rankings and without the right balance of content that engages with your visitors and drives conversions, you're earnest optimisation could be wasted.

Google’s free service helps take the guesswork out of the game, allowing you to test your site's content: from simple A/B testing of two different pages to comparing a whole combination of elements on any given page. Personalization features are also available to spice things up a bit. Note that in order to run some of the more complicated multivariate testing, you will need adequate traffic and time to make the results actionable, just as you do with Analytics.

4. Live Keyword Analysis

  • UPDATE: Service doesn't work anymore.

Any seasoned search engine optimisation specialist will tell you keywords matter, and while simply clawing keywords into your text arbitrarily can do more harm than good, it's worth ensuring you have the right balance. Live Keyword Analysis is a breeze to use: simply type in your keywords and then paste in your text and your keyword density analysis will be done on the fly. Don't forget to proof and edit your text accordingly for optimum readability. A must for website copywriters especially as you don’t need to register or pay for anything.

5. Ahrefs Backlink Checker

Understanding backlinks (sites linking to you) allows website owners and publishers to see what link opportunities they might be missing out on. Enter Ahrefs, arguably one of the most powerful players out there.

They maintain one of the largest live backlink indexes currently available with over 17 trillion known links, covering 170 million root domains. While Ahrefs isn't free, the backlink checker feature is, which provides a useful snapshot that includes your domain rating, the top 100 backlinks, top 5 anchors and top 5 pages, the strict minimum to provide with a feel of what Ahrefs has to offer.

How to watch the Take That concert online from anywhere in the world tonight

Posted: 22 May 2020 09:57 AM PDT

Get ready to roll back the years, Take That are reuniting for a one-off performance - and it couldn't be easier to catch every song online tonight. Follow our guide below as we explain how to watch the Take That concert live from anywhere in the world, including for free.

While Gary Barlow, Howard Donald and Mark Owen have kept Take That alive as a trio in recent years, this gig is something special because founding member Robbie Williams will join the group for the first time since 2014.

The reason for the reunion is that tonight's Take That concert is a charity benefit, with proceeds going towards music therapy non-profit Nordoff Robbins and Crew Nation - which is supporting venue and touring staff who depend on live shows for their income. Needless to say, it will be performed remotely given the current circumstances.

The performance is also noteworthy as it's the first event to be held under the Meerkat Music moniker - a spin-off of popular price comparison website Compare the Market.

But there's disappointment in store for many Take That Fans, as it looks like live streaming access will be restricted to UK YouTube viewers. Brits abroad have options, though - so read on as we tell you all the best ways to watch the Take That concert and live stream the reunion gig no matter wherever you are on earth tonight.

How to watch the Take That concert: live stream for FREE in the UK tonight

How to watch the Take That concert live online from abroad

While anyone in the UK will find it easy to watch tonight's Take That concert courtesy of the free YouTube stream, folks elsewhere in the world may struggle to tune in because of geo-blocking.

Anyone from the UK who's currently outside of the country could consider using a VPN. This nifty bit of software changes your IP address so that you can access all the content and services you already pay for back home - just from anywhere in the world.

Disney Plus: movies, shows, free trial, Hamilton and more explained

Posted: 22 May 2020 09:55 AM PDT

Disney Plus (or Disney+) is the streaming service from the House of Mouse that will battle the likes of Netflix and Amazon Prime for subscribers. Disney Plus brings together movies and TV shows from Disney animation, Star Wars, Marvel, Pixar and National Geographic into one place, as well as key content from 20th Century Fox like The Simpsons.

Disney Plus is out now in the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, UK, and other European countries. A Japanese launch is coming in June, and Latin American countries will get Disney Plus later in 2020. The Disney Plus rollout will take up to two years to complete after its initial November 2019 release date, and eventually it'll be available everywhere.

Why is Disney Plus worth subscribing to? The big appeal here is its vast archive of movies from Disney, Pixar, Marvel and Star Wars, which encompasses many of the most popular movies ever made. They're all presented in 4K HDR for no extra cost, too. You pick a monthly or yearly subscription tier and that's it: you're ready to watch on the device of your choice.

The other reason you'll want the Disney Plus streaming service is Disney Plus Originals. Starting with Star Wars TV show The Mandalorian, Disney has made a big commitment to creative TV series based on its most popular film franchises. That means that you'll soon see TV shows set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, like The Falcon and the Winter Soldier and WandaVision, as well as more Star Wars series, including The Mandalorian season 2.

In 2020, Disney has released movies on the service faster than expected to respond to the changes in our viewing habits, with Frozen 2 and Onward arriving early in the US. On July 3, the musical Hamilton will release on Disney Plus, brought forward from a 2021 theatrical release and available to stream at home, which is a major incentive to subscribe.

Here's our comprehensive Disney Plus guide, including details on its free trial, price, movies, shows, bundles and the Verizon deal that gets you a year of Disney Plus for free.

How to sign up to Disney Plus

If you want to sign up for Disney Plus in the US, UK and Canada, you can sign up for Disney Plus here, or if you're in Australia or New Zealand, click here. There's a 7-day Disney Plus free trial if you want to check the offering out before committing to the service.

Disney Plus FAQ

  • What is Disney Plus? Like Netflix, this is a streaming service, but it's exclusively packed with Disney content, including movies and shows from companies it owns.
  • When did Disney Plus launch? Disney Plus has already launched in the USA, Canada,  Australia, New Zealand, the UK and most of Europe. It'll launch in Japan in June 2020, more of Europe in September 2020 and Latin America starting in late 2020.
  • What does Disney Plus cost? $6.99/month in the US (or $69.99 per year), $8.99 in Australia and Canada ($89.99 per year) and £5.99 per month in the UK (£59.99 per year).
  • Does Disney Plus have 4K streams? Yes. Disney Plus supports 4K resolution, HDR, Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos. You'll see whether movies on Disney Plus support it under the 'details' tab on the listing pages in the app.
  • Where can I find it? Disney Plus is available on iOS, Android, Apple TV, PS4, Xbox One, Amazon's devices, Roku devices, browsers, Android TV and the UK's Sky Q and Now TV.
  • Which Disney Plus channels are there? There are no channels, as such, but there are five separate content hubs for Disney, Pixar, Star Wars, Marvel, and National Geographic. It also features content from Fox, like The Simpsons.

Disney Plus free trial: how to get one

A Disney Plus 7-day free trial is a good way to check out the entire offering of the service. Hey, you could watch every single episode of The Mandalorian in that time and marathon the Marvel movies before quitting, if you really wanted to. You'll need to enter your billing details to get a free Disney Plus trial, but it's easy to cancel before you're charged. You only get one free trial, so make it count.

Here's how you cancel Disney Plus if you need it.

Disney Plus price and bundle explained

disney plus mandalorian

The Disney Plus price structure is mostly the same wherever you are, with monthly and yearly subscription tiers. Disney Plus costs $6.99 per month in the US, or $69.99 for a year's subscription. In the US, there's a $12.99 per month Disney Plus bundle with Hulu and ESPN+, which we'll explain below.

In the UK, Disney Plus is £5.99 per month, or £59.99 per year. In Australia, Disney Plus is AU$8.99 per month or $89.99 per year.

In Canada, it's $8.99 a month and $89.99 for a year. In New Zealand, it's NZ$100 per year or NZ$10 a month. For Disney Plus in India, for new users the Disney+ Hotstar VIP plan is Rs 399 per year and Disney+ Hotstar Premium at Rs 1,499 per year.

Disney Plus, notably, is cheaper than Netflix, which is $10.99 per month for its Standard Plan, and $14.99 for its 4K-equipped Premium tier. With Disney Plus, the flat fee gets you 4K HDR streams, .

So, about that Disney Plus bundle. It includes Disney Plus itself, Hulu (with ads) and ESPN+ for just $12.99 a month. That's a great deal, with Hulu offering a wide range of adult-friendly shows and movies, while ESPN+ includes tons of sports content. This saves you around $5 per month, since Disney Plus costs $6.99 per month, Hulu costs $5.99 while ESPN+ is $4.99.

Disney Plus app and devices

Disney Plus app

These are the devices that are compatible with the Disney Plus app:

  • iOS
  • Android
  • Apple TV
  • Fire TV devices
  • Roku
  • Chromecast / Chromebook
  • Xbox One
  • PS4
  • Nvidia Shield (via Android TV)
  • Smart TVs (including Android TV, LG WebOS, Samsung Tizen, Vizio SmartCast)

The Disney Plus app can be downloaded on almost any device, then, and you can watch it in web browsers on desktop, too. The Disney Plus app supports up to four simultaneous streams, ten registered devices and you can create seven profiles. Each profile can create its own Watch List. You can download as much Disney Plus content as you want to watch offline, as long as you sign in to the app online every 30 days.

The app has different age ratings for content, and you can choose to create a Kids Profile to remove the more adult-friendly content on there (The Simpsons, for example).

As well as having different content hubs for Disney, Pixar, Star Wars, Marvel and National Geographic, the Disney Plus app has curated content lists themed around different subjects. These hubs include the major franchises we just mentioned, but also themed sets of Simpsons episodes, or Disney divided into decades. It's a nice way to find something to watch that's not just driven by Netflix-style algorithms.

Disney Plus movies: what's new in 2020 and 2021

Frozen 2 is one of the more recent Disney Plus movies that are worth watching.

Disney Plus has had a big 2020 so far, releasing movies like Frozen 2, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, Pixar's Onward and Maleficent: Mistress of Evil on the service in the US. Its next big original is June 12's Artemis Fowl, an adaptation of Eoin Colfer's book originally destined for cinemas. Not that you can really call it a movie, but the musical Hamilton arrives shortly after on July 3, and that'll be a huge deal.

These are the major movies coming to Disney Plus in the US throughout 2020 and 2021 that we know about right now:

  • Artemis Fowl (original): June 12
  • Hamilton (original): July 3
  • Solo: A Star Wars Story: July 10
  • Tarzan: June 23
  • Avengers: Infinity War: June 26
  • Race to Witch Mountain: July 1
  • The Incredibles 2: July 30
  • Ant-Man and the Wasp: August 14
  • Cinderella: September 1
  • Christopher Robin: September 25
  • The Falcon and the Winter Soldier: August 2020
  • Beauty and the Beast (2017): October 1
  • Maleficent: October 1
  • Ralph Breaks the Internet: December 11
  • The Jungle Book (2016): May 30, 2021
  • The Lone Ranger: April 30, 2021
  • Tomorrowland: September 1, 2021

Older Disney Plus movies are the lifeblood of the service. You'll see many of them in our list of the best Disney Plus movies. You won't find adult movies on this streaming service, though, as all of the content on Disney Plus is family-friendly.

Disney Plus includes pretty much every Disney animated movie you can remember from across the decades: Snow White, 101 Dalmations, Aladdin, The Little Mermaid. There's more or less parity in the library across different countries, though depending on where you are, some movies may be tied up in deals with other services and will arrive on Disney Plus later. We've listed the main examples of this above.

Disney Plus also has an almost-complete archive of Pixar movies to watch, as well as every Star Wars movie (minus Solo in the US, for the time being), and that now includes 2019's The Rise of Skywalker.

Every single Marvel Cinematic Universe movie is on Disney Plus, except those that are owned by other studios (the two Tom Holland Spider-Man movies and The Incredible Hulk). In addition, Disney Plus US is missing two Marvel movies: Ant-Man and the Wasp and Avengers: Infinity War, but that will soon be rectified.

Existing original movies on Disney Plus include The Lady and the Tramp, Noelle and Timmy Failure. You can watch those now.

You'll also find a number of movies from 20th Century Fox available to stream on Disney Plus, including James Cameron's Avatar, The Simpsons Movie, the Home Alone series and Cheaper by the Dozen.

Disney Plus shows: original series and classic shows

The Simpsons Disney Plus

Current Disney Plus originals include Star Wars TV series The Mandalorian and The Clone Wars, which are by far the best reasons to subscribe. A recent series called Disney Gallery: The Mandalorian explores the making of the Baby Yoda-starring show.

Other originals include the excellent documentary series The Imagineering Story, and kid-friendly shows like Diary of a Future President, Zenimation, High School Musical: The Series and the Pixar shorts series Forky Asks A Question.

Disney Plus has a lot of non-fiction shows available to watch, like Shop Class, Marvel's Hero Project, The Big Fib, Disney Family Sundays and Disney Fairy Tale Weddings. As you might expect, a lot of its programming is targeted at families.

In terms of classic shows, Disney Plus offers a lesser array of older series compared to its movie collection. What's here is mostly animated, like DuckTales, Recess, Gargoyles, Gummi Bears, Goof Troop, TaleSpin and several Marvel series, including the '90s X-Men and Spider-Man animated series. The big hitter, of course, is The Simpsons. There are 30 seasons to stream now, as well as The Simpsons Movie. You'll find some other live-action shows to enjoy, too, like Marvel's Runaways and Boy Meets World.

But what about the future?

The reason to be excited about the future of Disney Plus is its upcoming originals, a big-budget array of new Disney Plus shows that put the characters of Disney, Pixar, Marvel and Star Wars to work. The highlights for most adult viewers will be the upcoming canonical Marvel Cinematic Universe shows featuring characters from the movies, as well as new live-action Star Wars shows focused on popular heroes like Obi-Wan Kenobi and Cassian Andor.

Below is a selection of the best upcoming shows on Disney Plus. We've excluded most non-fiction shows or game shows from the list, because there are so many in the works, and what's below is the stuff you'll actually be interested in. Note that some of these dates may be affected by the current global pandemic, but it's accurate at the time of publication:

  • The Mandalorian season 2: October 2020
  • Muppets Now – July 31 2020
  • The Falcon and the Winter Soldier – August 2020 (target)
  • WandaVision – November 2020 (target)

This is how you contact Disney Plus customer service, too, if you can't resolve an issue. You can call 888-905-7888 if you're based in the US. You can also tweet the Disney Plus help account. This email should help, as well: DisneyPlusHelp@Disney.com.

Disney Plus Verizon deal: how you can get a year of Disney Plus for free

Disney Plus and Verizon are still offering a year of Disney Plus for new Fios and 5G Home customers (click here to see the deal). You can still take advantage of the offer even if you're subscribed to Disney Plus already, according to Verizon's FAQs.

The Disney+ on us offer is only for new Fios and 5G Home customers. Business accounts are not eligible.

Disney Plus gift subscriptions: get a year of Disney Plus for a friend or family member

Disney Plus Gift Subscriptions are available at the yearly $69.99 tier, and make an ideal last-minute gift. You can buy Disney+ Gift Subscriptions here. Right now, though, you can only get them in the US.

Our verdict? Disney Plus is worth it, but mostly if you have kids

Disney Plus is slightly a more specialist offering than Netflix, aimed at fans of Disney, Marvel and Star Wars. It doesn't have the adult content or variety you'll find on other streaming services, but that's okay, because inevitably you'll find something you want to watch on here.

The archive of Disney Plus content is amazing, and for Disney fans, that's reason enough to subscribe. If you've got children, too, the service is more of a no-brainer.

The next year will be crucial for Disney Plus. Its initial offering of original shows has been solid, but slow, with many of its best series coming long after launch. In a few years, though, with a regular rotation of Star Wars and Marvel shows to enjoy every few months, subscribing is going to be essential.
