Pacquiao vs Broner live stream: how to watch tonight's boxing online from anywhere

Posted: 19 Jan 2019 10:00 AM PST

It's fight night! The mighty Manny Pacquiao, despite being 40 years old, is still the favorite to beat his opponent in Las Vegas tonight. Adrien Broner thinks differently as he has the WBA regular welterweight title in his sights and a place in the history books as a rare vanquisher of the Filipino legend. Watching a live stream of all the Pacquiao vs Broner action is easy, too - you can even watch for FREE in certain regions.

Pacquiao might be older but he has lots of experience with this being his 70th fight. That gives him a 60-7-2 record with a total of 39 KOs and status as one of the all time legends to setp into the ring. In comparison, his American challenger, at 29 years old, sports a formidable record sheet of 33-3-1-1 and 24 KOs.

As the former WBA welterweight champion and four division world champion, Broner is not to be underestimated. That said, Pacquiao is an eight division world champ as well as being former lineal and three time WBO welterweight champ – and of course there's he currently has the WBA title, too.

There's talk of Pac-Man agreeing to a Floyd Mayweather rematch, drawing the fighter out of retirement, as a follow-up to this fight. But Broner thinks all the attention should be on him and his chances to cause an upset: "I’m not in awe of any fighter, especially Manny Pacquiao. I hope he’s in awe of me. I’m a one of a kind fighter too. I’ve made history in this sport. This is a defining moment in my career and it’s going to be one of the biggest nights of my life."

UFC to make its ESPN+ debut - see how to watch online and live stream from anywhere

Posted: 19 Jan 2019 08:45 AM PST

If it seems like ages ago since ESPN announced that it had won the rights to broadcast UFC, that's because it is. It was way back in May 2018 when the organisations revealed a five-year deal worth around $1.5 billion for ESPN to show Ultimate Fighting Championship events.

Taking place at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York tonight, Fight Night is being main evented by what looks like a cracker. Flyweight champion Henry Cejudo and bantamweight champ TJ Dillashaw are duking it out for the former's championship belt. While former footballer Greg Hardy makes his debut further down the card against fellow heavyweight Allen Crowder.

It's looking like ESPN's UFC tenure is getting off to a flyer, and all the action can be watched on its online ESPN+ subscription service, too. So keep reading to see your viewing options, whether or not you're in the US this weekend.

How to watch UFC online in the US for FREE

It's a new dawn for MMA fans in the US, with ESPN+ snagging the coverage that's not even available with a UFC fight pass. The broadcasting giant's online subscription platform only launched in 2018, but has already made waves by hosting big-ticket tennis, soccer and boxing events.

It costs $4.99 per month - so not huge sums, and less than streaming services like Netflix (and a lot less than cable). That lets you watch online, but also via its mobile app and TV streamer apps on the likes of Apple TV, Amazon Fire TV, Roku, PS4 and Xbox.

But the best news is that you can grab a seven-day FREE trial. So if you haven't used ESPN+ before, you can sign up for that and get a taster of its UFC Fight Night events without paying a thing.

Worry not if you're a huge UFC fan but aren't in the US to watch that ESPN+ coverage this weekend. If you've got your subscription (or free trial) sorted but then find the coverage is geo-blocked, you can try using a VPN to change your IP address to a US server and watch as if you were back at home.

Spotify's in-car music player could be launching this year

Posted: 19 Jan 2019 06:30 AM PST

Remember that in-car player device Spotify was reportedly developing last year? It sounds like it's back on the agenda, with a potential launch happening some time in 2019 – bringing Spotify to your motor with no mobile phone required.

As per a Financial Times report, the tune-pumping add-on is going to offer voice control capabilities and cost you about $100 (that's roughly £75 or AU$140). It'll sync with your car stereo via Bluetooth, apparently, and offer quick access to your favorite playlists, though it doesn't appear to have a touchscreen or any display of its own.

What isn't clear from the anonymous sources speaking to the Financial Times is whether it'll have any 4G/LTE connectivity powers on board, or whether you'll need to load it up with tunes before you leave the house. It might also tether from a phone connection.

Keeping up with Amazon and Google

It's not difficult to see why Spotify would want to launch something like this, even though it's already relatively easy to get Spotify playing in a car through a phone – Alexa is in the car now, and Google Assistant is in the car now, so Spotify will want to keep up.

According to a special offer that leaked out to some Spotify users, the device in the pipeline will indeed have a cellular data connection for streaming on the go, which possibly points to an extra subscription fee – get the speaker and on-the-go data for a flat monthly fee on top of (or instead of) your existing premium subscription.

As yet there's no indication of exactly when in 2019 Spotify is going to unveil its in-car speaker, but considering how long these rumors have been swirling, we'd suggest it'll be sooner rather than later – giving you yet another option for music on the go.

9 videogame remakes that are better than the originals

Posted: 19 Jan 2019 05:00 AM PST

Unlike films, videogames can be hard to go back to. Whether that’s because of ageing controls, improvements in graphics, or simply nostalgia shading what actually wasn’t a good experience to begin with - it’s difficult.

While game developers could certainly fix the problem by remaking every one of our childhood classics, for obvious reasons only a handful are ever selected.

That said, when a publisher does commit to remaking an older release, it’s easy to mistake the title for being brand-new altogether, and that’s what this list is essentially all about: These are the remakes that went above and beyond what we expected, bettering the original’s release, making them the definitive version.

But, before we start, let’s first clear up a common misconception...

Remake: Building the game from scratch for modern standards. Everything is overhauled but kept in the same vein of the original release.

Remaster: Uses the same original game code but graphics are updated à la HD. Can include minor quality of life improvements.

Now that's out of the way, here’s our list of the best game remakes.

Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy

For seven years there was an absence of everyone’s favorite marsupial. After all hope seemed to have died out, Shaun Layden took the stage at E3 2016 to reveal that the first  three Crash Bandicoot games would be “fully remastered from the ground up”, and boy, did they deliver.

The N. Sane Trilogy not only looks gorgeous in ‘Fur K’ but it actually feels better. Developer Vicarious Visions even improved upon a lot of the control issues that plagued the first Crash. To top it all off, sales were higher than anyone could have imagined, which culminated in Crash Team Racing being announced as the next remake in the franchise.

The Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition

At a time where Lucasfilm could do no wrong, The Secret of Monkey Island’s gameplay, music, and humor stood above all else on the market. Nearly 20 years on, thanks in part to fabulous writing, the swashbuckling adventure has kept its charm.

Utilizing what was basically the same team (Tim Schafer, Dave Grossman, and Ron Gilbert) for the remake, this special edition lives up to its name. Stronger audio propels every level, while the slicker graphics brighten up each aspect of this fascinating world. Finally, the cherry on the cake is the much-requested inclusion of voice acting.

The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask 3D

As lauded as Majora’s Mask is, there was always a sense of inaccessibility for certain players. The time mechanic was too grueling, repeating side quests was tedious, and losing save progress could be a real bore.

When released in 2015, Majora’s Mask 3DS solved all of these issues creating a more compelling experience for all. For one, the addition of the notebook to help manage all of Link’s side-quests was heavily welcomed. Then you have the inclusion of Owl Statues, that grant save spots without the hassle of returning to the first day, as well as the useful ability to warp to any specific hour. Now who’s smiling, Mr. Moon?

Ratchet & Clank

Part remake, part re-imagining, 2016’s Ratchet & Clank is too damn fun to leave off this list. Insomniac went back to basics to tell us the story of an unlikely meeting between an aspiring Lombax and lovable robot. First time around, the pair were not too fond of one another. However, second time around Ratchet & Clank got on like a Blarg on fire.

Turning the humor up to 11, while introducing lots of inventive weaponry, all lend to the duo’s opening mission succeeding in style. Not to mention those glorious Pixar-like graphics...

Metroid: Zero Mission

The first entry in this long-running series has huge sacrality tied to it. Somehow though, when it comes to the topic of Metroid, Zero Mission has replaced that slot for anyone looking to jump in. At a time where remakes were not as common, Nintendo – which was riding off the success of Metroid Prime – revitalized Samus Aran’s journey to the planet Zebes using a colorful art-style that popped off the screen.

Furthermore, the inclusion of extra items and mini-bosses contribute to fleshing out the smaller storyline – even Samus’ history was given greater clarity.  As a bonus too, by completing Zero Mission on hard mode, players unlocked the original outing. Win.

Tomb Raider: Anniversary

Critically favored though sales never went its way, Tomb Raider: Anniversary gave Lara Croft’s first mission new life. Lara, still new to the profession, ends up on an arduous quest for the Scion of Atlantis. After Crystal Dynamics proved its merit with 2006’s Legend, the company were tasked with recreating Lara’s initial escapade.

Anyone that has played 2013’s Tomb Raider or its sequel, Rise of the Tomb Raider, will be aware of the talents at Crystal Dynamics. So, it’s no surprise that Anniversary gained expanded locations, updated environments, well still evoking the same feeling that launched the franchise 21 years prior. Everything felt perfect... just avoid the Wii version.

Pokémon: Let’s Go Pikachu/Eevee

We know it's controversial due to the implementation of Pokémon Go mechanics, however it’s hard to dispute that Kanto has never felt more alive than it was in the Pokémon Let's Go games.

For many of us, Pokémon Blue, Red, and Yellow were not only our entry points into Pokémon but our first foray into videogames as a whole. Seeing Celadon City’s slot machines or Viridian Forest’s never-ending trees were enough to bring any long-time trainer to tears.

Aside from enhancements in the graphical department, Let’s Go brought in ride Pokémon, secret techniques, and Alolan types. Above all, Let’s Go introduced the fantastic notion of Pokémon in the overworld. Fans are now clamoring for Gen 8 to take the same approach.

Spyro Reignited Trilogy

spyro reignited trilogy prices ps4 xbox one

Just like Crash, Spyro falls into the same category of nostalgic mascots that released during the late '90s. Sure, we love them, but after 20 years do they hold up? Well thankfully that question was given a definitive answer, as Toys for Bob handed Spyro’s first three outings the same lick of paint the orange marsupial received.

Looking like something from a DreamWorks film, Spyro’s enchanting escapades never looked more heavenly. Mechanically the game is solid too, with flying, charging, and flame breath all receiving an upgrade worthy of any dragon.

Shadow of the Colossus

Master of the remake, Bluepoint Games outdid itself with the epically grand Shadow of the Colossus. An adventure devoted to the slaying of 16 giants has always been one of great poignance. The environments are presented in such way that each facet is given room to breathe like no other.

Now available at 30 frames per second over 1080p, with the capability of 60fps for PS4 Pro owners, Shadow of the Colossus is given the scope that director Fumito Ueda’s intended in his primary vision. This is how a remake should be done.

Facebook is testing a new meme machine to bring back the kids

Posted: 19 Jan 2019 02:30 AM PST

Facebook's attempts to win back the eyeballs of teenagers aren't slowing down, if new reports are to be believed: the social network is apparently testing a meme-filled feature called LOL with selected users, based around short, shareable video clips.

TechCrunch reported the trial run, which Facebook has since confirmed – the idea is to pack LOL with funny videos and GIF-style loops so that youngsters might be tempted to spend a little bit more time away from Instagram and Snapchat. Content gets pulled from the News Feed and the best meme pages on Facebook, apparently.

For now only around 100 high school students in the US have access to LOL, and they're presumably giving feedback to Facebook engineers as to why this is the best or worst idea in the history of social networking. Facebook says the concept is in its "early stages".

Top marks for persistence

Of course we've been here before. In 2014 Facebook launched Slingshot, a Snapchat clone which has since been abandoned. Then late in 2018 it introduced Lasso, also based around short and shareable video clips, which is apparently still going.

The problem from the perspective of Mark Zuckerberg and his fellow execs is not just that teens are leaving Facebook – Facebook owns Instagram, after all – but that they're sharing content and memes in ways that are difficult to monetize. The short-lived, ephemeral Stories style introduced by Snapchat has become the most popular way to keep in touch.

For now it's not clear if LOL might become part of the Facebook app, arrive as a separate app, or never launch publicly at all. It might even roll into Facebook Watch (Facebook's home for videos and original content, if you've completely missed it).

AMD Radeon VII release date, news and features

Posted: 18 Jan 2019 02:34 PM PST

The whole computing world has been waiting with bated breath for AMD’s high-end graphics card – and it’s finally here. Although it’s not the Vega II launch that seemed all but certain, the Radeon VII looks like a stunner that may even beat the Nvidia GeForce RTX 2080.

Featuring a whopping 16GB of video memory and a high boost clock of 1,800MHz, this looks like a very exciting graphics card from Team Red. Hang with us for a bit as we tell you everything you need to know about the AMD Radeon VII.

Cut to the chase

  • What is it? AMD’s latest high-end graphics card
  • When is it out? February 7, 2019
  • What will it cost? $699 (about £550, AU$980)

AMD Radeon VII

AMD Radeon VII release date

While we don't report on production numbers externally," the statement reads, "we will have products available via AIB partners and AMD.com at launch of Feb. 7, and we expect Radeon VII supply to meet demand from gamers.

AMD to Overclock3D

AMD held a grand spectacle of a keynote at CES 2019, and its headlining announcement was that the Radeon VII will launch on February 7th.

While we would like to see the release of the AMD Radeon VII be as clean cut as that, there’s been plenty of news of shortage and a lack of third-party cards. Industry sources say that there may be fewer than 5,000 units of the Radeon VII at launch. AMD quickly responded to rumors, assuring gamers that there will be enough Radeon VII GPUs to meet demand.

AMD Radeon VII

AMD Radeon VII price

The AMD Radeon VII will launch at a starting price of $699 (about £550, AU$980). That’s quite a bit more expensive than AMD’s current flagship GPU, the Radeon Vega 64, that originally launched at a $499 or £549 (about AU$630) price.

That said, AMD considers the Radeon VII to be a direct competitor to the Nvidia GeForce RTX 2080, which costs between as little as $699 (£649, AU$1,119) or up to $799 (£749, AU$1,299) with the Founders Edition.

One silver lining to the Radeon VII’s high price is the card will come bundled with free vouchers for Devil May Cry V, Resident Evil 2 and The Division 2 – all three games, not just one.

AMD Radeon VII

AMD Radeon VII specs

The Radeon VII will be the first graphics card to be built on AMD’s – or anyone’s, really – 7nm architecture. Comparatively, the Nvidia’s Turing architecture just managed to hit 12nm, though there are rumors that Team Green may employ Samsung’s fabrication resources to make 7nm chips of its own.

According to AMD, its new 7nm process allows this GPU to increase performance by 25% overall over last year’s model with having to draw any more power. In fact, the Radeon VII may feature the same 295-watt thermal design power (TDP) as its predecessors.

As we previously mentioned, this GPU touts twice as much video memory as the previous model at a whopping 16GB of HBM2 VRAM. The Radeon VII also features 3,840 GCN cores and a maximum boost clock of 1,800MHz – about 300MHz faster than the Vega 64. This maximum frequency also matches up with Nvidia’s Founders Edition factory overclock applied to the GeForce RTX 2080.

Although the Radeon VII doesn’t feature any dedicated ray tracing cores, AMD has told and shown us that it will be able to handle ray tracing production work even better than Nvidia’s RTX 20-series cards. AMD also plans to support DirectML as an alternative to Nvidia’s Tensor Core and AI-driven DLSS anti-aliasing technology.

After AMD announced Ryzen 3rd generation processors will be the first to support PCIe 4.0, you might be wondering if the Radeon VII will feature the same technology. Sadly, we’re here to tell you it won’t and it will be sticking to the same tried and true PCIe 3.0 connector. PCIe 4.0 technology will be first used in conjunction with SSDs to unlock even faster data transfer speeds.

The last bit of bad news we have to bare is that AMD told us that it currently has no plans to introduce CrossFire support on the Radeon VII. We can hardly blame AMD for not including it, as we can imagine it would be murder to get 32GB or more of video memory to work together nicely.

  • AMD next graphics architecture is expected to be Navi
