Apple : AWS opens first African region

Apple : AWS opens first African region

AWS opens first African region

Posted: 23 Apr 2020 03:02 PM PDT

AWS has announced that its new AWS Africa Region in Cape Town, South Africa is now open and with this launch, Amazon's cloud computing division now spans 73 Availability Zones within 23 geographic regions around the world.

Organizations and government agencies can now run their applications and server end-users in Africa with even lower latency while leveraging advanced AWS technologies.

Senior vice president of global infrastructure and customer support at AWS, Peter DeSantis explained in a press release that the opening of the new AWS Africa Region is part of the company's continued efforts to support the growth of the continent's local technology community, saying:

“The cloud is positively transforming lives and businesses across Africa and we are honored to be a part of that transformation. We have a long history in South Africa and have been working to support the growth of the local technology community for over 15 years. In that time, builders, developers, entrepreneurs, and organizations have asked us to bring an AWS Region to Africa and today we are answering these requests by opening the Cape Town Region. We look forward to seeing the creativity and innovation that will result from African organizations building in the cloud.”

AWS Africa Region

The AWS Africa Region has three Availability Zones which are each made up of one or more data centers that are located in separate and distinct geographical locations. There is also enough distance between them to significantly reduce the risk of a single event impacting business continuity, though they are close enough to provide low latency for high-availability applications.

Each Availability Zone has independent power, cooling and physical security and they are connected via redundant, ultra-low-latency networking. AWS customers who are focused on high availability can even design their applications to run in multiple Availability Zones to achieve even greater fault-tolerance.

Just like the other AWS infrastructure regions around the world, the Availability Zones in the Cape Town region are equipped with back-up power to ensure continuous and reliable power availability to maintain operations during electrical failures and load shedding.

With the launch of AWS' new Africa Region, customers with data residency requirements and those looking to comply with South Africa's Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA), can now store their data in the country knowing they retain complete ownership of it and that it will not be moved unless they choose to move it.

Apple is giving away Pearl Jam's latest music video in Dolby Vision + Atmos

Posted: 23 Apr 2020 01:33 PM PDT

If you’ve been looking to build your Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos content library, you’re in luck: Apple and Dolby have just announced that Pearl Jam’s latest release will be available in the spatial audio format for free later this week.

On offer is the Gigaton Visual Experience, an album-length music video that’s offering immersive spatial audio and colorful, high-contrast picture quality on any Apple device that supports Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos.

Obviously this sort of thing would look best on an Apple TV 4K hooked up to a Dolby Vision-compatible TV and an Atmos speaker system, but you’ll also be able to play it on compatible iPhones like the iPhone 8 and iPhone XS, iPads and MacBooks, too.

The bad news? You’ll have to act fast: the album will be free on the Apple Store starting April 24 in over 100 countries... but for only seven days, after which you’ll have to buy or rent it at the regular price.

What's Dolby Atmos again?

If you haven't kept up with the audio scene these past few years, Dolby Atmos is the widely used spatial audio format that allows sound engineers to create a sort of sound bubble with a really big soundstage.

It's been around for a few years now and while it's primarily been used in cinematic releases, Dolby Atmos is also available for music, too.

Atmos is competing against a few other spatial audio formats, like Sony 360 Audio, but Dobly has the early lead in terms of device support and content partners (see: this free Pearl Jam album on Apple's global storefront).

All that said, clearly the format isn't ubiquitous quite yet – hence promotions like these that help spread the word about the format. But hey, don't look a gift horse in the mouth as they say.

New Azure exploit could let hackers create a 'skeleton key'

Posted: 23 Apr 2020 01:28 PM PDT

The cybersecurity firm Varonis has discovered that an attacker can use a compromised on-premises IT environment to pivot and attack an organization's Azure environment.

Using a compromised PC as a stepping stone to move across a network to hack other targets is a tactic that cybercriminals frequently employ and security researcher at Varonis, Eric Saraga found that it was possible to manipulate an on-premises server known as an Azure agent to establish a backdoor and obtain user credentials from the cloud.

Saraga developed a proof-of-concept attack that exploits Azure's pass-through authentication which installs an Azure agent on-premises that authenticates synced users from the cloud. This enabled him to create a form of 'skeleton key' password on an Azure agent.

Using this skeleton key, an attacker could escalate privileges to global admin to gain access to an organization's on-premises environment. This would allow the attacker to extract usernames and passwords from a company's Azure environment.

Skeleton key

Thankfully Saraga's exploit can be blocked by using multi-factor authentication to secure a company's Azure accounts as well as by actively monitoring its Azure agent servers.

This attack would also be difficult for cybercriminals to pull off as they would first need to hack into a corporate network.

Another thing worth noting is the fact that this is an exploit as opposed to a vulnerability so Microsoft won't be issuing a patch to fix it. The software giant responded to Varonis' report, saying:

“This report does not appear to identify a weakness in a Microsoft product or service that would enable an attacker to compromise the integrity, availability, or confidentiality of a Microsoft offering. For this issue, the attacker needs to compromise the machine first before they can take over the service.”

Since a patch isn't being developed, Saraga says that organizations should lock down their Azure environments by using multi-factor authentication to prevent falling victim to any potential attacks that leverage this exploit.

NFL Draft live stream 2020: watch the first round online anywhere for free

Posted: 23 Apr 2020 01:03 PM PDT

The 2020 NFL Draft is one for the history books, as for the first time ever the league's annual college player selection will be held virtually. That doesn't diminish its appeal, though, so here's how to watch the NFL Draft for free - live stream the first round tonight from anywhere in the world.

This year's NFL Draft was supposed to take place under the bright lights of Las Vegas and herald not only a new rookie class but the arrival of the league's newest team - the Las Vegas Raiders, recently imported from Oakland.

Now, it will see NFL commissioner Roger Goodell announcing picks from his basement - we probably don't need to tell you this is because of the coronavirus pandemic?

Nevertheless, fans are still getting three full days of draft action, with more than 250 collegiate athletes set to realize their dreams and make the leap to the NFL. And despite the new virtual setup, the NFL Draft's format remains unchanged, with round one taking place on Thursday April 25; rounds two and three on Friday; and rounds four to seven on Saturday.

Whoever you root for on Sundays, we're sure you're as excited as we are to see how the 2020 rookie class shapes up over the next few days, so here's how to live stream the NFL Draft online and watch round 1 wherever you are in the world.

How to watch the NFL Draft: live stream the first round for free in the US

If you live in the US and own a TV, then you have plenty of options to watch this year’s draft. Starting at 8pm ET tonight, the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft is being shown on ABC, ESPN, and the NFL Network - plus ESPN Deportes for anyone who prefers Spanish language coverage.

All three channels offer an online streaming option and have apps that are compatible with a wide range of devices:

However, to make use of these you'll need to create an account and log-in with details of your cable provider - which poses an obvious problem if don't have cable.

This is where over-the-top streaming services come into their own and the best option for most cord-cutters is Hulu.

Its Hulu + Live TV package gets you access to both ESPN and ABC, so you have two options for 2020 draft coverage. While it's the most premium of Hulu's offerings and normally costs $54.99 a month, there's currently a FREE 1-week trial promotion - so you can watch the entire NFL Draft for free!

It doesn't come with the NFL Network, though, so if that's where you want to watch the NFL Draft 2020 then you can check out Sling TV - you can currently save $10 on its great value Sling Blue package, which includes the NFL Network - where coverage of the NFL Draft first round starts at 5pm ET today.

How to watch an NFL Draft live stream from outside your country

If you're eager to watch the NFL Draft but find yourself abroad, you may find that access to the streaming service you normally use and pay for at home is unavailable due to geo-blocking.

This is annoying, for sure, but the good news is there's a readily available solution in the form of a VPN. This handy software changes your IP address to one back home, so you can access the 2020 NFL Draft live stream of your choice from anywhere in the world and watch the first round picks just like you normally would.

NFL Draft first round - latest news

NFL draft live stream

Virtual though it may be, the 2020 NFL Draft is full of intrigue and mock drafts are all over the place this year.

The Cincinnati Bengals look nailed on to select stud QB Joe Burrow out of LSU with the number one overall pick - but thereafter it's open season. Chase Young, a freakishly athletic 21-year-old defensive end from Ohio State, is being tipped to go to the Washington Redskins with the number two selection, but the draft always springs surprises and there's no telling what GMs and head coaches will be thinking tonight. Ryan Leaf, anyone?

One storyline particularly worth following is whether the New England Patriots try to trade up and draft a successor to legendary quarterback Tom Brady - now of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. It's thought that Alabama star Tua Tagovailoa's injury concern could see him slip just far enough for the Pats to make a move - or that they could wheel and deal for Oregon's Justin Herbert.

Resident Evil 8: release date, news and trailers

Posted: 23 Apr 2020 12:40 PM PDT

When it was first released in 2017, Resident Evil 7 was a much-needed rejuvenation for the classic horror franchise. Capcom departed from its usual formula in a big way and even took the opportunity to embrace new experiences with PlayStation VR. This risk paid off and a large proportion of fans and critics embraced the changes, with a keen eye on what the next game might bring.

After Resident Evil 7's release, Capcom didn't jump straight to a new instalment and instead created very successful remakes of Resident Evil 2  and Resident Evil 3 followed on, with rumors of a fourth remake even being in the works.

Although Capcom hasn't confirmed that Resident Evil 8 is coming just yet, Resident Evil 7 really didn't feel like it was marking an end to new entries in the series and after the success of other recent releases it feels somewhat inevitable that an eighth game will come eventually.

As we don't have an official confirmation just yet, there's not much in the way of solid information but here's everything we know so far about Resident Evil 8 including news, rumors and what we want to see.

[Update: A recent leak has suggested that Resident Evil 8 is in the works and could be revealed very soon. Read on to find out more.]

Resident Evil 8 release date

Capcom hasn't confirmed Resident 8 is in the works so we don't have a release date yet. But we expect we won't see another chapter in the Resident Evil franchise until at least 2021—perhaps for Xbox Series X or the PS5?

Resident Evil 8 news and rumors

Dusk Golem leak

After hearing very little about Resident Evil 8 for some time, noted leaker Dust Golem has reported on Twitter (via VGC) that the game has been in the works for over three years and is expected to be released as a cross-gen game in the next year or so.

Dusk Golem goes on to say that this release will be a big departure for the series, to the extent that it may upset some fans. They report a first-person perspective and some mechanical and narrative changes with themes of occultism, hallucinatory segments and even werewolves.

Interestingly, the leaker alleges that the game was originally supposed to be a third game in the Revelations spin-off but, following positive feedback from testing, it was decided to make it a mainline entry with changes being made to its story and characters.

The information leaked by Dusk Golem was later corroborated in a further leak from BiohazardCast.com which went into further detail. According to this leak the game will have the subtitle "Village" and is aiming for release in Q1 2021.

BiohazardCast suggests that the game is taking inspiration from modern folk horror with established characters Ethan Winters and Chris Redfield playing key roles. The leak mentions a new type of stalker enemy called the Witch, though the nature and origin of the enemy isn't known.

Of course, none of this has been confirmed by Capcom so it should certainly be taken with a vat of salt, especially as BiohazardCast has acknowledged that much of its information came from an anonymous email source which makes verification difficult. Until we hear from Capcom itself we just can't be sure, although with E3 2020 now cancelled it's unclear when an announcement might come if there is one to be made.

First Person Perspective

It's not even been announced yet but a recent report has suggested that Resident Evil 8 will keep up the first person gameplay perspective that featured in Resident Evil 7. The report comes from fansite Biohazardcast (via Eurogamer).

Resident Evil 7 was the first game in the series to adopt a first-person perspective and although the recent remakes haven't picked it up, it's not entirely surprising that Capcom would want to keep it going in a new instalment. It's a continuation of the different, more experimental approach the series took with Biohazard and would allow the new releases to stand even more distinct from the remakes. And it leaves things open for another terrifying VR port.

As this is just a rumor, it should be taken with a pinch of salt until such times as Capcom confirms or denies the existence of Resident Evil 8 and what it may involve if it is to be released.

A while away?

Resident Evil 3 is definitely on the way but a recent rumor (via GamesRadar) has suggested that Resident Evil 8 could still be a while off. According to prominent leaker AestheticGamer (aka DuskGolem), there was a version of Resident Evil 8 in development all the way back in 2016 which was eventually scrapped before being picked up again in around 6 or 7 months ago meaning full on development hasn't been underway for a full year yet. According to the leaker, as a result of this rejigging fans shouldn't expect to see Resident Evil 8 "anytime soon".

Of course, this information is only coming from one person and should therefore be taken with a massive pinch of salt, especially given there's not even been any official confirmation that there is indeed a Resident Evil 8 on the way. AestheticGamer does have a good history of providing accurate information, having revealed details on Resident Evil 7's Not A Hero DLC as well as reporting that Resident Evil: Resistance had connections to Resident Evil 3 before it was officially confirmed, but that's no replacement for an official comment from Capcom on its plans for the Resident Evil franchise.

Testing for an unrevealed game

According to a recent Reddit post, Capcom has invited members of its Resident Evil Ambassadors programme to test an unrevealed game. While there are hopes that it's the still-to-be-confirmed Resident Evil 8 there's also a rumor that it could be a new entry in the fossilised Dino Crisis franchise as Capcom has recently filed for a trademark related to the series.

This isn't the first time Capcom has invited Resident Evil Ambassadors to test an unannounced title recently; last time the testing turned out to be for the multiplayer Resident Evil experience, Project Resistance. Does the fact that the previous round of testing was related to a Resident Evil game make it more likely to be a similar scenario this time? It's impossible to say, but the most likely candidates for this unannounced title at the moment new entries to the Resident Evil or Dino Crisis series. We won't know for sure until Capcom makes an official announcement.

Resident Evil 3 Remake confirmed

As suspected, Capcom has confirmed it's working on a remake of the classic Resident Evil 3, following on from the success of the second game's remake. This is an exciting reveal, but it's not the Resident Evil 8 confirmation we're holding out for.

Project Resistance confirmed
Capcom has announced Project Resistance, new 1v4 asymmetric online survival horror experience set in the world of Resident Evil. Unfortunately it isn't the core game we've been hoping for.

Resident Evil 8

Testing on an unconfirmed title
Capcom’s Division 1, has reportedly sent emails to Resident Evil Ambassadors in Japan, inviting them to test an in-development game.

The email, translated from Japanese to English and published by fansite Biohaze, reads:

“To all Resident Evil Ambassadors, thank you for your patronage regarding the Resident Evil series. Today, we are letting you know that we are recruiting testers for a game that’s in development!

“We are interested in incorporating the feedback of all Ambassadors into our development, so please read the details below and, if you are interested in participating, click the entry button.”

It's possible these emails referred to Project Resistance, however it may be that they reference Resident Evil 8.

Capcom has numerous unannounced titles in development
Resident Evil fans hoping for a new entry in the series were feeling their hopes rising after a 2019 financial briefing from Capcom which confirmed the publisher has "numerous" unannounced titles in development. The games are being developed on the RE Engine used for Resident Evil 7, Resident Evil 2 and Devil May Cry 5.

Resident Evil 8

Work has already started
We’ve known this since early in 2017 when Resident Evil 7’s executive producer Jun Takeuchi confirmed it. In an interview for an official “making of” Resident Evil 7 documentary, Takeuchi said that work on the next game is “already in motion.”

It’ll build on the work of Resident Evil 7
In the same interview Takeuchi also ruminated on what the game might look like.

The first thing that he confirmed was that Resident Evil 7 was the start of a new direction for the series and that it was “the start of a new kind of survival horror, and of a new series.”

“We’re already thinking about various plans for the next game,” he revealed, “but we also want to see how we can continue to evolve survival horror itself. In the next few years technology will continue to advance and what players want may also change.”

It is, admittedly, hard to draw any solid information from this. When Takeuchi spoke in this interview it’s clear that planning was still in the very early stages and it’s quite possible that things such as plot and setting were still yet to be nailed down.

While we’d surmise that Resident Evil 8 will build on the fresh new feel of Resident Evil 7, Takeuchi’s comments on wanting to evolve the genre as well as capitalize on changing technologies and player desires suggests that the team aren’t locking themselves into a formula just yet.

Just as Resident Evil 7 integrated virtual reality in an interesting experiment that played on the new first-person perspective of the game, Resident Evil 8 could do the same all over again. We could see another perspective change, the team could find new ways to integrate virtual reality technology, or it could even delve into new augmented reality technology.

Part one of the "making of" documentary gives a good insight into the kinds of gameplay experiments the team were looking into.

Resident Evil 8

It seems that Takeuchi is telling fans not to assume there’s a new formula from which the developers won’t waver. Resident Evil will be taking a survival horror approach to the creation of survival horror – adapt, change and stay on your toes because you don’t know what new technology or fan request is around the corner.

One thing we do know, however, is that the Resident Evil team will “always want to create horror experiences where the characters overcome a difficult situation.”

Takeuchi said he believes this is what survival horror is “all about” before adding that “the next Resident Evil game, and the one after that, every future Resident Evil, will feature characters getting through crises like this.” It’s this essence of “core survival horror concept of people overcoming the odds” that Tekeuchi says the series will “always retain.”

From this, at the very least, we can assume that the future of the series will place a heavier focus on the survival horror elements showcased in Resident Evil 7, rather than delving back into the more action-heavy gameplay of releases such as Resident Evil 4.

Shinji Mikami could come on board
As the director of the original Resident Evil and the fourth instalment, Shinji Mikami is hugely beloved by Resident Evil fans and inexorably tied to the series. He hasn’t, however, been directly involved with it since Resident Evil 4.

That could change though. In an interview with PCGamesN Mikami was asked if coming back to direct Resident Evil 8 was something he’d consider. He would, of course, have complete creative freedom to with the game as he’d like. His answer was short and far from finite: “I might.”

Resident Evil 8

Resident Evil 8: what we want to see

More enemies
We loved the Molded in Resident Evil 7 but we’d love to see a little more variety in Resident Evil 8. Dangerous and scary enemies are a given but there’s something about having a wide range of terrifying character designs that makes turning every corner even more frightening. Who knows what you’ll have to face next?

A different location
This actually plays into our request for more varied enemies. Naturally, we’d love to see a new location in Resident Evil 8. To keep fans of the series on their toes it’d be interesting to see something that’s a little more open or a little more varied. New locations tends to mean new opportunities for new enemies so we think these demands feed into one another quite nicely.

Resident Evil 8

More answers
The ending of Resident Evil 7 left us with some questions and though many of them have been answered in the DLC that followed, not all of them have. As Resident Evil games go, Biohazard was quite isolated in terms of its place in the wider series universe. Though we understand the desire for a fresh start, we’d love to see a little more exploration and integration there. At the very least it would be nice to see a few more knowing nods to fans.

VR support
Resident Evil 7’s foray into VR was terrifying and an excellent example of how to develop for the platform. We wouldn’t be against Resident Evil 8 delving back into this once again, lessons learned and technologies advanced.

Pokémon Go updates: all the news and rumors for what's coming next

Posted: 23 Apr 2020 11:39 AM PDT

Pokémon Go: the world's first augmented reality app to become a household name. Niantic's mobile AR game is still going strong two years after it first released, with a constant drip of events and updates keeping budding trainers glued to their phones and pounding the streets.

And while it hasn't managed to top the peak of its popularity in 2016, it's still going strong and finding plenty of new ways to improve its player experience. Including making it easier for its players to catch 'em all from inside their own homes during coronavirus quarantines.

So what's the latest news for Pokémon Go? As you'd expect, brand new features are being added all the time and themed events are still going strong.

But without further ado, here's our guide to all the latest Pokémon Go news and updates.

Pokémon Go news and Pokémon Go updates

Pokémon Go

  • What's new? Niantic is reacting to the Coronavirus pandemic with some temporary updates and changes. There's a new Buddy-focused event taking place and the Abra Community Day has been rescheduled.

Coronavirus changes

Given Pokémon Go is a game which attempts to draw its players outside, Niantic is having to react to the Coronavirus pandemic and make some temporary changes which will make it easier for players to continue to catch 'em all without stepping over the door.

In a statement to Polygon, the developer has said that it's  “prioritizing updates to Pokémon Go features and experiences that can be enjoyed in individual settings.”

The changes are already in place and include increasing habitats so that more Pokémon should appear around player's homes.

Other moves from Niantic are a 99% reduction on incense packs so that players can attract Pokémon to where they are and increase spawns with the time they work increased to one hour rather than just 30 minutes.

Incubators will also result in hatches at double speed, while PokéStops will drop gifts more often.

Niantic has also announced a new feature called 'Today View' which gathers a lot of useful information like streaks and current events in one place so that you can keep on top of your game.

To make up for the lack of opportunities to pick up PokéBalls from your own home, there's now a one Pokécoin bundle which is available as a one-time purchase and contains 50 Great Balls. These bundles rotate weekly and this one is available until April 27.

In terms of event changes, for April Shadow Entei will still be available to save from Giovanni but there won't be a new set of Team Go Rocket Special Research.

The Coconut Pokémon Alolan Exeggutor will be available as a Research Breakthrough encounter, and it’ll come with bonus Stardust, until May 1.

As of March 31 Niantic has temporarily doubled Pokémon Go's Gym interaction distances to allow players to "team up in Raid Battles from home".

"The distance from which you can interact with Gyms has been temporarily doubled, allowing you to be farther from Gyms and other Trainers as you challenge Raid Bosses," Niantic wrote. "This change also allows you to spin Photo Discs at Gyms if you are within the doubled distance; however, it will not change the distance required to spin Photo Discs at PokéStops."

As of April 15, Niantic has made it possible to Raid remotely. With the new Remote Raid Pass, Trainers will be able to access Raid battles from a Nearby screen. At first, Trainers taking part in battles remotely will have the same attack power as those there in person. Later (at an unconfirmed time) remote power will reduce and those in person will have higher attack power.

Niantic has said that other adjustments will also be made to the feature over time, including changes to the number of players who can remotely Raid and the ability to incite friends into Raids regardless of location.

To take part you'll be able to buy individual passes in the in-game shop for 100 PokéCoins though later there will be a 1 PokéCoin bundle in the shop that will feature Remote Raid Passes.

Since there are far fewer chances to spin PokéStops, at midnight each day players will also get a bonus Research Task. Slightly different from Field Research Tasks, these will focus on activities that can be completed at home.

As far as Gifts are concerned, Buddy Pokémon of any level will now bring Gifts to Trainers when they're running low so that it's easier to keep in touch with friends and family. Gifts are an important way to stay in touch with friends and share items.

Finally, it's now possible to activate multiple Star Pieces, Lucky Eggs, and Incense at a time to extend their effect durations. Each of these items will have a 30-minute duration but you'll be able to activate more of them in order to extend their durations beyond that for up to 24 hours per item.

Spotlight Hour

Spotlight Hour will still be taking place for the month of April, every Tuesday at 6:00 p.m. local time. This time around, for each Pokémon Spotlight Hour there'll be a different Pokémon and bonus. The Pokémon and remaining bonuses are as follows:

  • Tuesday, April 28, 2020: Pidgey will be in the spotlight, and you’ll earn twice the XP for evolving Pokémon.

Pokémon Go Battle League

Its preseason now finished up, the first season of Pokémon Go's competitive Battle League began on March 13. Trainers who took part in the preseason and achieved a rank of 4 or higher will receive a Premium Battle Pass as a reward.

Due to the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic, Niantic has waived the walk and pay entry requirements for Battle League. Players who are not in-game close friends will no longer need to be close to one another to Battle and will be able to challenge one another as long as they're only Good Friends, allowing for tournaments to be held remotely.

Trainer Battles within the GO Battle League will rotate between three leagues and players will be able to rank against fellow Trainers, earning rewards for ranking.

The GO Battle League is beginning with the Great League until March 27, which will be followed by the Ultra League until April 10, then the Master League until April 24, after which all three Leagues will be available until May 1. Season 2 is expected to begin on May 1, when each of these Leagues has been cycled through.

Players can earn Stardust depending on rank and number of battles won as well as items like Rare Candies and TMS as well as the chance to get exclusive Pokémon encounters.

Some changes are being made to Battle League based on learnings from the preseason.

Winning will now matter much earlier than Rank 4, with Ranks 2 and 3 requiring platers to win a certain number of battles in order to advance to the next rank.

The Pokémon you can encounter as GO Battle League rewards are also changing for Season 1 with Metagross being the first guaranteed encounter reward. Players that reach Rank 4 will have the chance to encounter Bedlum, at Rank 7 it's Rufflet and, finally, Pikachu Libre at Rank 10.

Reaching Rank 10 will also allow players to earn avatar items and an avatar pose exclusive to Season 1 inspired by Steven, a Pokémon League Champion in the Hoenn region.

At the end of Season 1, players who have reached Rank 7 or higher will receive an Elite Charged TM. Elite Charged TMs, along with Elite Fast TMs, allow players to select the attack their Pokémon learns.

Live Leaderboards

As of April 10, you can see who's doing well in the Pokémon Battle League thanks to the launch of the GO Battle League leaderboard on PokemonGOLive.com. The leaderboard has come as the GO Battle League changes from Ultra League to Master League.

The leaderboards show the top five hundred Trainers in the world as well as their Trainer nicknames, teams, ranks, ratings, and total matches.

Rankings are based on the previous day’s in-game ratings for Trainers rank 7 and up but it'll update between 8pm UTC and 10pm UTC every day unless maintenance issues cause a delay.

What's the next Pokémon Go Event?

Pokémon Go

Buddy Up Event

We all love our Pokémon Go buddies and this dedicated event which will run from April 21 until April 27 encourages us to spend even more time with them with special bonuses.

During the event, the firefly Pokémon Volbeat and Illumise will be appearing in all regions in the wild, in Eggs and as reward encounters. If you've been looking to get your hands on one of them now is the time as when the Buddy Up Event is over they'll be returning to their designated regions, which are Europe, Asia, and Oceania for Volbeat and the Americas and Africa for Illumise.

Also during the event, players will be able to encounter Woobat for the first time in the wild and after completing some Field Research Tasks. After Buddy Up is over, Woobat will still be appearing in the wild and in 2 km Eggs so if you miss out on this Pokémon during the event it's not the end of the world.

Some Pokémon that make great buddies will be appearing more often during Buddy Up, with Alolan Meowth, Chansey, Eevee, Feebas, Lillipup, and Joltik all appearing more frequently in the wild, while Alolan Meowth, Eevee, Feebas, Lillipup, and Joltik will hatch from 5 km Eggs more often.

It's also important not to forget the event-exclusive Field Research tasks for which the rewards include Stardust and encounters with Alolan Meowth, Volbeat, Illumise, and Woobat.

As far as special bonuses during Buddy Up, players will find that their Buddy Pokémon will be bringing them presents more often. The distance you have to walk to earn Buddy Candy and hearts will also be halved and, accordingly, your buddy will get excited more easily. If you feed your buddy Berries and Poffins during the event, it'll stay on the map with you for double the time.

Finally, you'll earn double XP for any Pokémon that evolves during the course of the event, whether they're your designated buddy or not.

Live Safari Zones

Niantic has announced that Pokémon Go Live Events will be coming to Taiwan, the US and the UK this year. The first event in Taiwan which celebrated the Lantern Festival has passed, while the others are still to come and will be ticketed at a cost of $12/£12 for General Admission and $18/£18 for Early Admission.

Due to concerns over the COVID-19 outbreak, Niantic has stated that it will be postponing all of its Safari events with plans to look for alternate dates in the next 12 months. Players looking for refunds for their digital passes are encouraged to reach out through in-app support by March 25.

  • March 27 - 29: Safari Zone St. Louis, Missouri, US (Postponed)
  • April 17 - 19: Safari Zone Liverpool, UK (Postponed)
  • May 8 - 10: Safari Zone Philadelphia, US (Postponed)

When's the next Pokémon Go Community Day?

  • What date is the next Community Day? April 25
  • Who's the starring Pokémon? Abra

After being postponed due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, Niantic has confirmed that the Abra Community Day is back on and will be taking place on April 25.

This Community Day will be slightly different from previous days due to necessary changes that have been made to make it easier for players to take part from home.

As a result, the day will be 3 hours longer than usual, running from 11am to 5pm local time. During this time, the Psychic-type Abra will be appearing more often in the wild, with opportunities to catch it in its Shiny form. Players who evolve an Abra during the Community Day will get an Alakazam that knows the exclusive Fighting-type attack Fast Attack Counter.

Players willing to spend $1/£1 will also be able to unlock an exclusive Special Research story that's tied to the Community Day. Called Investigating Illusions, it will reward players who complete it with 13,000 Stardust, a Poffin, and Rocket Radar amongst other things.

As far as bonuses for the day, there will be triple Catch Stardust and Incense will last for three hours for the course of the event.

It'll be worth equipping your Buddy Pokémon when you take part, too, as those with a Buddy Level of Great or higher will bring useful items like Poké Balls during the event.

Don't forget to look out for a special April Community Day Bundle in the in-game shop too: for 1,280 PokéCoins, players will get an Elite Charged TM, 30 Ultra Balls, three Super Incubators, and three Incense.

Niantic has also suggested that players take a snapshot while playing the Community Day for some kind of surprise which seems worth doing if you ask us.

Google Cloud Anthos now supports multi-cloud

Posted: 23 Apr 2020 11:23 AM PDT

Google Cloud has announced that its platform to manage multi-cloud workloads Anthos is now generally available for AWS though the company plans to add support for Microsoft Azure by the end of this year.

Anthos aims to deliver on the promise of write once, run anywhere by allowing businesses to run their applications on existing on-prem hardware investments or in the public cloud.

In a blog post announcing Anthos' multi-cloud support, vice president of product management at Google Cloud, Jennifer Lin explained that flexibility is one of the main reasons customers choose to use the service, saying:

“The flexibility to run applications where you need them without added complexity has been a key factor in choosing Anthos—many customers want to continue to use their existing investments both on-premises as well as in other clouds, and having a common management layer helps their teams deliver quality services with low overhead.”

Virtual machines

With the latest release, Google Cloud is also making it easier for organizations to manage diverse environments, with deeper support for virtual machines, which will let them extend Anthos' management framework to the types of workloads that make up the majority of existing systems.

Through Anthos Config Management, organizations can now manage policies for their virtual machines on Google Cloud in the same way that they do for containers. This will help reduce configuration errors due to manual intervention while also speeding up time to delivery.

Google Cloud also revealed that over the coming months, Anthos Service Mesh will include support for applications running in virtual machines which will allow organizations to manage security and policy across different workloads in Google Cloud, on-premises and in other clouds.

6 new Netflix shows, movies and specials you need to watch in May 2020

Posted: 23 Apr 2020 11:07 AM PDT

Netflix might have some slowdown of new TV shows and movies as a result of the current health crisis in 2021, but in 2020? Seemingly not. The big hitters keep on coming. Netflix's May 2020 line-up is huge, with new dramas, comedies, kids shows, anime and documentaries to watch on the streaming service.

Below, we've picked six highlights that are new on Netflix in May. We've focused on Netflix Originals that are available globally, so you know you can look forward to these wherever you are.

1. Space Force

Space Force

Release date: May 29

A new sitcom starring Steve Carell, from The Office US creator Greg Daniels? You know you're going to watch Space Force, which is about the begrudging formation of a new branch of the armed forces that must dominate the stars, based on the term coined by President Donald Trump. Lisa Kudrow and John Malkovich co-star in this enormously promising comedy, which also features Parks and Rec's Ben Schwartz.

2. White Lines

Release date: May 15

Featuring a mostly British cast, this Ibiza-set mystery drama is from the creator of the Spanish Netflix hit Money Heist, which is an immediately exciting sell. Two decades after he went missing on the island, the body of a famous DJ is found, and his sister attempts to find out what really transpired in his death. The trailer promises a sun-soaked and seedy-looking thriller. Daniel Mays, who US viewers might recognize as that guy who got shot by Diego Luna at the start of Rogue One, co-stars.

3. Hollywood

Release date: May 1

Nip/Tuck, Glee and American Horror Story creator Ryan Murphy made a big splash in signing on with Netflix, and this post-World War 2 period piece is his second big project, after last year's somewhat divisive series The Politician. Hollywood is about a group of upcoming performers and creators looking to hit it big in Tinseltown, no matter the cost. The show features regular Murphy collaborator Darren Criss, who excelled in American Crime Story: The Assassination of Gianni Versace. Hollywood is a limited series, so don't worry about feeling like you have to commit to watching it for the next five years. Hopefully it doesn't feel like an expensive vanity project.

4. The Eddy

Release date: May 8

From La La Land director Damian Chazelle, who helms the first two episodes, and prolific screenwriter Jack Thorne (remember The Fades?), The Eddy is about a Paris jazz club ran by a once well-regarded American musician (played by André Holland) who's straining just to keep it going. There are definitely elements of Chazelle's Whiplash to the show's relationship with music, based on the trailer above.

5. All Day and a Night

Release date: May 1

The second movie directed by Black Panther co-writer Joe Robert Cole, All Day and a Night is a serious drama about a young man who inadvertently finds himself on a similar path to his father, despite doing his best to avoid it. In reflecting on his own story, and the circumstances that led to that point, he hopes to help his son break the cycle. Jeffrey Wright co-stars.

6. Jerry Seinfeld: 23 Hours to Kill

Jerry Seinfeld: 23 Hours To Kill

Release date: May 5

Jerry Seinfeld stand-up comedy specials are surprisingly rare, given how popular the comedian remains decades after his career started and his sitcom ended. This is only the fourth special from Seinfeld, with Netflix again flexing its muscles in landing big stand-up talent, following their last collaboration Jerry Before Seinfeld in 2017. Expect jokes that begin with "did you ever notice...". Seinfeld is always an affable on-stage presence, though your mileage may vary.

The AMD Ryzen 3 3300X may end up beating the Intel Core i7-7700K

Posted: 23 Apr 2020 10:51 AM PDT

The Intel Core i7-7700K isn't nearly as fast as the Core i7-9700K, but it remains on of the best processors for gaming rigs. That may be about to change if AMD has something to say about it.

According to a leaked benchmark found by CPUmonkey, AMD's upcoming Ryzen 3 3300X comes within just 0.5% of the 7th-generation Kaby Lake chip in terms of single-core performance.

Since single-core performance doesn't always scale up the same for different processors, it remains to be seen how well the Ryzen 3 3300X actually performs when running all four of its cores. What we do know is that the Ryzen 3 3300X has a base clock of 3.8 GHz, with boost to 4.3 GHz, with 65W TDP and 18 MB total cache.

Unlike the Intel Core i7-7700K, however, the Ryzen 3 3300X won't have an integrated GPU, so a discrete GPU will need to be purchased separately, though for gaming rigs, this is par for the course.

Can AMD's Ryzen 3 3300X bring high-performance gaming to budget gaming PCs?

Even after a couple of years on the market, the Intel Core i7-7700K is still going to run you about $300, which forces a lot of gamers on a budget to have to make compromises on other hardware components. This might mean a lower-end discrete GPU or having to settle for the i7-7700K's integrated GPU for gaming, which is hardly ideal.

With the AMD Ryzen 3 3300X coming in at $120 (about £100, AU$188), users may now be able to get the same performance as the Intel i7-7700K while freeing up cash to buy more powerful graphics cards, unlocking true 1440p gaming for the budget gaming PC. We won't know for sure until we get our hands on one ourselves, but if the rumors are true, it's going to be a fantastic year for budget PC gaming.

DJI Mavic Air 2: release date, news and features

Posted: 23 Apr 2020 10:27 AM PDT

If you thought the global pandemic had grounded consumer drones, you're in for a treat – the new DJI Mavic Air 2 is preparing for lift-off and could turn out to be DJI's most popular drone yet, if the leaks are correct.

A mid-range successor to the popular DJI Mavic Air from 2018, it's shaping up to be an affordable 4K drone with all of the beginner-friendly flying smarts we've come to expect from DJI, plus a few bonuses.

An official DJI launch event has been scheduled for April 27 at 9.30pm EDT / 2.30am BST / 11.30am AEST. And while we don't know for certain if the event is definitely for the Mavic Air 2, recent leaks suggest it's highly likely to be announced there.

The event invite below doesn't give many details away, but fortunately a series of leaked specs and images have built a pretty clear picture of what we can expect.

Not familiar with DJI's drone lineup? The Mavic Air is the company's mid-range model and is designed for both complete beginners and enthusiasts who want a small, travel-friendly drone. The current model shoots 4K video and folds down into compact, 430g bundle that easily fits into a backpack.

From the leaks so far, it appears that DJI has moved slightly away from this design for the Mavic Air 2, with the new model looking more like the DJI Mavic 2 Pro. Still, it is likely to be smaller than that model and fold down into a very portable form factor.

This means it will again sit in between the smaller DJI Mavic Mini and the pricier Mavic 2 Pro, which is currently the top pick in our best drones roundup.

Will it stay there when the DJI Mavic Air 2 arrives? The rumors so far suggest the new model could well be the best drone for most people – here's everything we know about it so far...

DJI Mavic Air 2

DJI Mavic Air 2: release date and price

Given the major recent leak of DJI Mavic Air 2 images, it looks almost certain that the drone will be announced at DJI's event on April 27.

There is naturally some uncertainty about availability due to the knock-on effects of the global pandemic – even if the Mavic Air 2 is announced on April 27, it's yet clear if it'll be immediately available to buy or instead open to pre-orders. We'll have to wait till the event to find out for sure.

What we do know, if the latest leak from DroneDJ turns out to be correct, is that the DJI Mavic Air 2 will cost $799. That's the price that the original Mavic Air launched for back in January 2018. So far, only US pricing has been leaked, but the Mavic Air was available for £769 / AU$1,299 when it first arrived, so its successor seems likely to follow suit.

This would put it almost exactly halfway between the two other current drones in DJI's lineup. The smaller, beginner-friendly DJI Mavic Mini costs $399 / £369 / AU$599, while the DJI Mavic 2 Pro hasn't moved a great deal from its original $1,599 / £1,349 / $2,499 price tag.

This would make the new DJI Mavic the new mid-range option in its lineup, and this is backed up by the leaks so far...

DJI Mavic

The possible DJI Mavic Air 2 (left) vs the DJI Mavic 2 Pro (right)

DJI Mavic Air 2: design

We now appear to have several leaked press images of the DJI Mavic Air 2, which were picked up by DroneDJ. These build on a couple of previous photo leaks and give us a good idea of what we can expect.

The earliest leaked photos of the Mavic Air 2 came from Kanzhaji in March, which appeared to show a new drone that closely resembles the Mavic 2 series, only with a smaller form factor.

Then photo leaks from Brazilian site DroneFriendly and Brazilian YouTuber Dronemodelismo (below) helped back this up. Like its predecessor, these showed a folding drone, whose four arms can neatly fold away to help it it squeeze into a backpack.

What the latest leak reveals is the Mavic Air 2's expected size. In particular, the handheld shot (below) reveals that while the new drone looks a lot like the Mavic 2 series, it's also significantly smaller. Perhaps not as small as the original Mavic Air, but certainly more portable and travel-friendly that the Mavic 2 Pro and Mavic 2 Zoom.

Contrary to earlier rumors, the recent leaked DJI Mavic Air 2 images suggest it will have the same obstacle avoidance sensors as its predecessor. This includes one on the front, back and underneath the drone, but it appears to lack the 360-degree vision seen on the Mavic 2 series.

That's a slight shame, but is understandable given the expected price difference between the two drones. Not that the Mavic Air 2 will be difficult to fly without those sensors – its busy underside appears to include DJI's dual vision system, infrared sensors and auxiliary LEDs to help the drone avoid obstacles and find its landing spot.

DJI's software and Return-to-Home smarts are also very reliable, and we're expecting it to add Airsense to further improve its flying safety (more on that below).

DJI Mavic

The latest leaked Mavic Air 2 images also give us a good look at its camera module. This camera will be held steady by a three-axis gimbal and, as the text above the lens shows, will have a new 1/2-inch CMOS sensor, which will be larger than its predecessor's 1/2.3-inch chip. That should help it retain image quality when the light begins to fade.

One other big change on the Mavic Air 2 appears to be its controller, which appeared in earlier leaks and will have a very different design – for both good and bad...

DJI Mavic Air 2

DJI Mavic Air 2: controller

The apparently leaked DJI photos also appear to reveal a new controller design, which is significantly different from the Mavic Air's.

It's a lot bigger, for a start, and it looks like you'll mount your phone on the top of the controller, rather than below it. This makes a lot of sense to us, though the bulkier form factor might prove a little divisive, given one of the charms of the Mavic Air is how neatly the whole setup folds away.

DJI Mavic

Rather than a single switch in the middle for Sport mode, there now seems to be a three-way toggle for Normal, Sport and Tripod modes. The latter is a useful intelligent flight mode, which limits your drone's speed and helps you get smoother set piece shots. Sport mode, meanwhile, effectively turns DJI drones into a racing drone, allowing you to hit faster top speeds (42.5mph, in the Mavic Air's case) and keep up with fast-moving objects.

Otherwise, the controller has the usual 'return-to-home' button, function button and battery status lights. From the photo, it also appears to have the handy screw-in joysticks, which means you can unscrew them when you're not flying so the controller slips into backpacks much more easily.

Perhaps the biggest news from the Mavic Air 2's recently leaked manual is that it will have Ocusync 2.0, which will bring a significantly improved range of up to 8km. That's quite a leap from the Mavic Air's range of only 2km and is a big deal in terms of not only its range, but also the stability of its signal. It hasn't been seen on a mid-range drone before, so it'd be great to see this included.

DJI Mavic

DJI Mavic Air 2: specs and features

A big leak from Brazilian website Dronemodelismo recently revealed the Mavic Air 2's user manual, which gives us a good idea of its specs.

As expected, the Mavic Air 2 will again have a three-axis gimbal, which will hold a camera capable of shooting 4K video and 48MP photos (likely stitched together from a 12MP sensor).

There will also be some updated Intelligent Flight modes, including ActiveTrack 3.0, which should make it even easier for the camera to automatically track objects as you're flying.

It also looks likely that the Mavic Air 2 will a 1/2-inch CMOS sensor, which is slightly larger than its predecessor's 1/2.3-in chip, but won't quite have the light-gathering powers of the Mavic 2 Pro's one-inch sensor. Still, it will apparently be able to shoot 4K at up to 60fps.

Another big improvement will be battery life – according to the leaked manual, the Mavic Air 2 will have a flight time of 34 minutes, which is impressive and longer than we expected from its 3,500mAh battery. That's a 13-minute boost over the original Mavic Air.

One other thing we can be sure of is that the Mavic Air 2 will have a new safety system called AirSense.

DJI said last year that all new drones it releases from 2020 (that weigh over 250g) will include AirSense tech, which receives ADS-B signals from nearby airplanes and helicopters and warns you if they're on a collision course with your drone.

DJI Mavic

Early verdict

If there was still any doubt about the DJI Mavic Air 2 launching soon, then the recent leaks of its official photos and user manual has removed that – it's now clear that the mid-range drone is coming very soon, most likely on April 27.

Of course, there are still big questions about the Mavic Air 2, with its on-sale date being the main one. But we now know a lot more about it, including the fact it'll likely have far superior range to the original Mavic Air and a significantly better battery life.

Those who were fans of the latter's compact form might be disappointed by the Mavic Air 2's apparently much larger dimensions, but it's shaping up to be a fine choice for non-professionals who want a capable, travel-friendly drone. We'll bring you all of the official news as soon as we get it.

Did Apple underclock the A13 Bionic processor in the iPhone SE?

Posted: 23 Apr 2020 10:22 AM PDT

The iPhone 11 Pro Max and the iPhone SE are powered by the same A13 Bionic chipset, so you might expect that things would be the same in terms of performance.

Our own iPhone SE review showed that the new handset didn't hit the heights of the iPhone 11 Pro Max, for example, but still managed to negotiate daily app use with ease.

The results posted on benchmarking site Antutu reveal that the iPhone SE managed to achieve a  score of 492,166 on the benchmarking tests, which is the lowest of all the devices using the A13 Bionic chipset.

Apple's iPhone 11 Pro Max scored a whopping 537,154, while the iPhone 11 Pro scored 521,010 and the iPhone 11 managed to score 517,400 - and it makes us wonder how much further the iPhone 12's likely A14 chipset will rise in terms of output.

Even though all these devices are powered by the same processor, this deviation in the scores suggests that Apple may have underclocked the A13 Bionic processor present on the new iPhone SE.

It is worth noting while all the iPhone 11 variants tested on the benchmarking site feature 4GB of RAM, the iPhone SE is believed to have only 3GB of RAM.

As mentioned, we also saw a similar reduction in raw power across our benchmarking test suite in our iPhone SE review - although in terms of actual daily output we didn't encounter any performance issues.

These results also reveal that the iPhone SE outperforms the much costlier iPhone XS Max in the Antutu test.

It’s worth noting the XS Max is powered by the previous generation A12 Bionic chipset, thus showing that the new A13 chipset is (obviously) a step forward in terms of overall power.

The main reason for the reduction in benchmarking for performance will likely remain a closely-guarded secret within Apple as each manufacturer allocates resources as they see fit for each model - the iPhone 11 isn't as powerful as the 11 Pro range, for instance, as reducing the usable power can help things like battery life and the intended users might not need as much grunt.

Given we noticed that the iPhone SE battery life wasn't as strong as more recent launches from Apple, it makes sense that this could be the reason for not cranking the power from the A13 chipset to maximum - the demographic for buying a $399 smartphone is less likely to care about the absolute CPU output of their new phone in the same way as someone who spends three times as much.

The iPhone SE still has some impressive benchmarking scores considering the price of the phone, and the A13 chipset also has a clear impact on the quality of photography, so while it doesn't hit the testing scores of the more expensive models, it's still a massive step forward for phones at this price point.

Looking to get a OnePlus 8? Check out the Pop-up Box bundles

Posted: 23 Apr 2020 10:01 AM PDT

The OnePlus 8 series is cheaper in India than every other country, starting at just Rs 41,999. To make the deal even sweeter, special “Pop-up Box” bundles will also be available, adding a bunch of accessories for just Rs 1,000 extra.

OnePlus is no stranger to offering bundles and special deals at launch. These usually include special cases, earphones and occasionally extending to shirts and other accessories. For the OnePlus 8 series, a special Pop-up Box bundle will be available for both the phones, which includes a pair of the new Bullets Wireless Z, a Cyan Sandstone case and a Karbon bumper case. All of this just at Rs 1,000 over and above the cost of the phone.

There’s no specific mention of how many of these will be available for sale, but considering that the website labels them as ‘limited edition’, our guess is not too many. There also seems to be an invite system in place, which will be one of the guaranteed ways to get your hands on one of the OnePlus 8 series Pop-up Box bundles.

How to win an invite

To win an invite, you can participate in the OnePlus AR Unboxing experience on Instagram. On OnePlus’ profile, AR filters for both the devices are available, which will summon a virtual box. You can continue interacting with them to proceed with the unboxing. Some of the most creative entries will get an invite to be able to purchase the Pop-up Box bundle. Mind you, an invite only guarantees the ability to purchase the bundle, and does not bring any change in the price.

The boxes for the OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro are both listed as ‘coming soon’ for now. The OnePlus 8 bundle is priced at Rs 45,999, and offers 128GB of storage and 8GB of RAM. Colour options include Onyx Black and Glacial Green. Similarly, the OnePlus 8 Pro bundle will set you back by Rs 60,999. The top variant with 256GB of storage and 12GB of RAM is listed.

Need a cheap SIM only deal? Get 3GB data for just £7 a month plus an extra discount

Posted: 23 Apr 2020 10:00 AM PDT

SIM only deals sometimes feel like a race to the bottom. Retailers and networks are constantly trying to undercut each other to bring the UK the cheapest phone bills possible - and TalkMobile is the latest to join the battleground.

The Vodafone-owned online retailer may have been around over 10 years, but its current pricing has really caught our attention. And while Three may have the big data SIM only game tied up (yep, its £18 a month unlimited data SIM deal is still going strong), TalkMobile is appealing to folk who just want to pay as little as possible.

While it does have prices as low as £5 per month, the retailer's best value tariff has got to be its so-called Purple 7 SIM. For a mere £7 per month, you get a pretty healthy 3GB of data on top of unlimited calls and texts.

- Click here to go through to the TalkMobile website and order

That's already among the UK's cheapest SIM only deals - no other network can offer as much data for bills that low. But it only improves again when you see that TalkMobile is also making your first three months half price. That means your first three bills will cost you only £3.50 each!

Below you'll find everything you need to know about this ace TalkMobile plan - an ideal partner if you've recently ordered a cheap iPhone SE handset deal.

Another new Star Wars Disney Plus series is reportedly in the works

Posted: 23 Apr 2020 09:52 AM PDT

A new Star Wars TV series is coming to Disney Plus from Russian Doll creator Leslye Headland, it's been reported. Variety says that Headland will write and direct the series, which is described as 'female-centric' and takes place in a different part of the Star Wars timeline than the other projects Disney has planned right now.

Russian Doll is one of our best Netflix shows, and assuming the report is true, anything that's based further away from the Skywalker Saga time period suits us.

The Mandalorian doesn't feature particularly close ties to the main movies (yet, anyway), but the upcoming Obi-Wan and Rogue One spin-off series on Disney Plus are basically extensions of stories we've already seen in the movies. After The Rise of Skywalker made the Star Wars universe feel way too small, we're definitely keen to see what else creators can come up with.

The Groundhog Day-esque Russian Doll, starring Natasha Lyonne, was an immediate critical success on Netflix. It's no surprise that Disney would look to a show like that to infuse the Star Wars universe with more interesting voices.

The Mandalorian season 2 is set to debut in October 2020. The other Star Wars projects in the works at Disney Plus, including this new one, don't have release dates yet. Work has apparently begun on The Mandalorian season 3, too.

Star Wars' future really is on the small screen

"The priority in the next few years is television," is what Disney's Bob Iger said in February about the future of Star Wars. While three new Star Wars movies are on the schedule for 2022 onwards, it's clear that The Mandalorian has fueled Disney Plus' near-instant climb to 50 million customers.

Given how long these series seem to take to make, more is better to us. The Mandalorian was a good example of how you can tell different kinds of stories in the Star Wars universe

How to watch Brooklyn Nine-Nine: stream every season online anywhere

Posted: 23 Apr 2020 09:47 AM PDT

Few sitcoms have captured the imagination of viewers in the way that Brooklyn Nine-Nine has. Now in its seventh season, the show is perfect to binge if you're struggling for inspiration while self-isolating. Here's how to watch Brooklyn Nine-Nine online - stream the season 7 finale and every other hilarious episode no matter you are in the world.

The show first hit screens back in 2013, while Brooklyn Nine-Nine season 7 premiered on February 6 this year. It's been a huge hit since its inception; in fact, there was such an outcry after FOX cancelled the show after it fifth season that NBC snapped up the rights to Brooklyn Nine-Nine...the very next day.

The Emmy and Golden Globe-winning series follows a team of mismatched detectives in the fictional 99th Precinct of the NYPD in Brooklyn. Broadly speaking, it centers around the quirky relationship between Jake Peralta, an immature but talented detective played by Andy Samberg, and his commanding officer, the overly serious but eccentric Captain Raymond Holt (Andre Braugher). And for good measure, Brooklyn Nine-Nine season 7 adds some serious acting chops in the form of Oscar-winner and TV acting legend J.K. Simmons (Whiplash, Spider-man trilogy, Oz).

If that doesn't sound that hilarious to you, just know that Brooklyn Nine-Nine is another collaboration between Dan Goor and Michael Schur, the duo behind Parks and Recreation. Further bolstering Brooklyn Nine-Nine's credentials, Goor has also worked on The Daily Show, while Schur is behind recent hit The Good Place.

Convinced? Great. Here's how to watch Brooklyn Nine online - stream season 7 and the rest of the show from anywhere in the world.

Malwarebytes launches new privacy-focused VPN

Posted: 23 Apr 2020 09:45 AM PDT

In an effort to help protect its users' privacy online, Malwarebytes has announced the launch of a new VPN service called Malwarebytes Privacy.

The company's new VPN is the first offering in its suite of privacy products and it features a smart user interface that allows users to connect with just one click.

Malwarebytes Privacy secures connections with 256-bit AES encryption and the service does not keep logs on users' activities online.

At launch, the service has over 180 servers in more than 30 countries so that users have plenty of options to find the fastest server for their needs.

Malwarebytes Privacy

Probably the most exciting thing about Malwarebytes' VPN is the fact that it uses the new WireGuard VPN protocol at launch. WireGuard uses state-of-the-art cryptography and the new protocol is faster than existing VPN protocols such as OpenVPN and IPSec.

Chief product officer at Malwarebytes, Akshay Bhargava explained how Malwarebytes Privacy can protect consumers from unwanted tracking online in a press release, saying:

“Today you can’t go online without corporations, advertisers, and hackers trying to eavesdrop on you, and it’s feeling increasingly invasive for consumers. With a single click, Malwarebytes Privacy gives you the power to protect your online privacy by masking your IP address and online activity. As more and more people are utilizing home networks today, it’s increasingly imperative that we extend security to each and every person – no matter where they are or what network they are using – so that they can protect themselves and exert control over who gets their data, and for what purpose.”

Malwarebytes Privacy is available as a yearly subscription for $59.99 and this allows you to use the service on up to five devices. However, if you're also looking for a security solution, the company also offers a bundle which includes a one year subscription of Malwarebytes Privacy and Malwarebytes Premium for $89.99.

Malwarebytes Privacy is currently only available for Windows but the company plans to also release it for Mac, Android, iOS and Chrome OS soon.
