Apple could be set to offer a double whammy of smartphone goodness this year, with news that the Cupertino massive is to launch two versions of the iPhone 5.

The iPhone Download Blog is reporting that the new iPhone will come in two variations: standard and pro.

Now the iPhone Download Blog isn't the first to send rumour and speculation skipping off hand in hand in Apple land, but it seems that this specific piece of information came from an insider who believes that Apple is stocking up on phone components of differing quality.

iPhone duo

The components being ordered won't fit into one iPhone so it is thought that consumers may be able to buy either a budget iPhone or one which has better components inside.

Alternatively, the differing components could be used in the new iPod touch that Apple is rumoured to be working on - which fits better than a complete strategy change from Jobs' lot.

It is still thought that the iPhone launch will miss its annual June release in favour of a release sometime in September – a date usually kept for the launch of new iPods.

New iMac with quad-core processors and Thunderbolt announced

Apple has announced a whole new range of iMacs, which come with quad-core processors, enhanced graphics and Thunderbolt I/O technology.

Apple is boasting that the new iMacs are 70 per cent faster than the old ones and have graphics that are three times the performance of last year's range.

The new iMacs come brandishing quad-core Intel Core i5 processors but you can upgrade these to Core i7 processors up to 3.4 GHz. Alongside this there is AMD Radeon HD graphics processors, which mean that the iMac can now come with the boast of having "most powerful graphics ever in an all-in-one desktop".

Thunderbolt of lightning

The iMacs come in two sizes: the 21.5-inch iMac has a single Thunderbolt port while the 27-inch model features two ports. This shows that Apple is pushing Thunderbolt hard as being the new standard for high performance I/O.

Alongside a HD FaceTime camera, the new iMacs have been given an aluminum and glass design, IPS LED-backlit high resolution display, SD card slot and you have the choice of a Magic Mouse or Magic Trackpad.

Price-wise, the 21.5-inch iMac, with a 2.5 GHz quad-core Intel Core i5, AMD Radeon HD 6750M and 500GB hard drive comes in at £999.

The 27-inch iMac, with a 2.7 GHz quad-core Intel Core i5, AMD Radeon HD 6770M and 1TB hard drive will set you back £1399.
