Report sheds light on iPod touch, shuffle and nano revamps

TechRadar reported a few days ago that Apple plans to launch a revamp of its iPod music player line-up next week. Now, new details of what might be in store have come to light.

9to5 Mac, which published the original new iPods story, has learned that tweaked and completely new versions of the iPod touch, iPod nano and iPod shuffle will all be tweaked at the iPhone 5 launch event next Wednesday.

The site says that Apple plans to launch a redesigned iPod touch for the higher-end 32GB and 64GB model, but retain the current design for the entry-level 8GB device.

More colors beyond the standard black and white models are also expected in the offing.

Every year we're shufflin'

Beyond the iPod touch moderations, signs also point to eight total iPod shuffle colours, up from the current five, but price ($49/£30) and storage are likely to remain the same.

As far as the popular watch-face-sized iPod nano is concerned, the rumour is the device will be slightly larger in order to include Wi-Fi for the first time, plus include some new pigmentations.

The device reportedly has a completely different codename than the 2011 nano, which could indicate significant changes to both the software and hardware though not necessarily to the capacity. The price, however, might not change by much.

All is likely to be revealed at next week's iPhone 5 launch event in San Francisco.

With the iPhone 5 and full launch of iOS 6 coming and new iPods and new iMacs also rumoured to be in the mix, it's likely to be an exciting keynote.

Keep your eyes peeled to TechRadar for live coverage of the event, hands-on reviews with the new tech, and all of the key reaction.

New iMac line-up to be announced alongside iPhone 5?

New iMac line-up to be announced alongside iPhone 5?

Apple may announce a new array of iMac computers at the iPhone 5 launch event next Tuesday.

Fox News is reporting that the revamped desktop computers will arrive 'imminently' and points out that supplies of the current 27-inch model have dwindled ahead of the announcement.

The article counts on the new iMacs boasting Intel's latest generation Sandy Bridge processors, USB 3.0, better graphics and expanded storage. It also predicts a slimmer design.

Fox is speculating - as are we - as to whether the new iMacs may also be gifted the super hi-def Retina Display that graduated from iOS devices to MacBook computers earlier this summer.

The consensus view from analysts and observers appears to that the sleek, all-in-one machines will get very high resolution screens, but without the pixel count necessary to be coined Retina.

Define 'imminent'

Fox's original story suggested that the iMacs wouldn't arrive until the rumoured iPad Mini event believed to be set for October.

However, the site updated the article to suggest the machines would be arriving 'imminently.'

Does imminent mean this Tuesday? Tune into our live coverage of the iPhone 5 launch event to find out.

Report: Apple in talks to launch custom radio service

Report: Apple in talks to launch custom radio service

Apple is planning to enter the world of custom internet radio, according to the Wall Street Journal.

The company is said to be in talks with the major record labels to license tracks and allow users to create stations based on albums, songs, artists or playlists.

The WSJ says the service will rival the market-leading - and US only - Pandora service, while Spotify has also expanded into this area with some success.

The report claims that service will run on iOS devices and Mac computers, while it'd be fair to assume that any custom stations would be synced across your hardware through iCloud.

More user control?

Speculation that Apple may enter this market has blown hot and cold in the last couple of years.

This time, the Wall Street Journal says, Apple is negotiating slightly different licenses to those obtained by the likes of Pandora, Spotify, Rdio and Slacker.

The 'paper hints that Apple wants a greater level of user interactivity, which probably means more skips.

With talks said to be underway, it'll be interesting to see if Apple is able to announce any new service at next Tuesday's iPhone 5 launch event.
