Grand Theft Auto V rumored for PC debut in early 2014 Posted: While console gamers have been enjoying the spoils of Rockstar's latest Grand Theft Auto installment, PC gamers remain benched on the sidelines - but maybe not for much longer. Eurogamer.net reported Thursday that several industry insiders claim Rockstar will unveil a PC version of its latest Grand Theft Auto V sometime in the first quarter of 2014. Currently available only for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, the latest title in the popular vehicular crime saga raked in an impressive $1 billion dollars (£627.7M, AUD$1.056B) only three days after going on sale Sept. 17. Now the fifth chapter appears to be following the release pattern set by the previous Grand Theft Auto IV, which arrived on PCs eight months later than the console version back in 2008. Mum's the wordBack in August, a Nvidia executive casually mentioned a PC version of GTA V during a financial call, a slip the graphics chip maker quickly backpedaled on. The latest report claims GTA V is now on deck for early next year, according to "multiple industry sources" apparently privy to the publisher's release plans. Last month, Take-Two Interactive called the console release of GTA V the fastest-selling "entertainment property ever," but that success hasn't pushed Rockstar to open up about a possible PC (or even next-gen console) version. "We don't have anything to share about the possibility of a next-gen or a PC platform release at this time and we are completely focused on delivering the best possible experience for the consoles people have right now," the company told website Newswire back in July.

Outlook.com app for Android gets out of office replies Posted: Microsoft recently peeled the cucumber face mask off Windows 8.1's Mail app to reveal a fresh new look, and now the company has done the same for its Outlook.com app for Android devices. It claims that 68% of Outlook.com's 400 million users now access the service on a mobile device, and has stocked the app's feature cupboard with 150 user requested improvements as a result. The most notable addition is server-side search, which lets you search through all email messages including those that haven't yet been downloaded to the phone. All the mailIt appears alongside a new option to download every email you've ever received or sent (probably best to do this over Wi-Fi), as opposed to those just from the last month. The updated app, which is compatible with devices running Android 2.2 and above, also gets an 'out of office' feature that preps automatic replies when you're sunning yourself in the Caribbean (or just going for a sandwich or something). It's also been given a new lick of paint to match Windows 8.1's new Mail app. If the default blue, white and grey colour scheme isn't to your fancy, there's 11 different palettes to choose from, including a shade of green that matches Android's UI.

Twitter optimised for Android tablets, but literally only one to start Posted: Twitter has launched a brand new official app for Android tablets, but as of right now only a owners of one Google-powered/Samsung-built slate will have the opportunity to jump on board. The new app, which features a new landscape view UI that showcases tweets, conversations, trends, interesting accounts and more, is available exclusively for the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 (2014). It will land on other Samsung tablets in due course, before a wider roll to other unspecified Android devices by the end of the year. Twitter brags that its first app optimised for Android tablets "fills your screen with Tweets, conversations, Trends, accounts to follow and more." In a post on its official blog, the company explained: "With a single tap, Tweets expand on the right side to show photos, videos and article previews. Dive deeper with another tap to see photos, play videos or read links from the web in fullscreen mode." Unique featuresThat Samsung exclusivity does bring some unique features for Note 10.1 owners. Samsung's Multi Window software feature allows Twitter and other apps to run in dual screen mode, while tweets and photos can also be annotated using the S Pen stylus. There's also a new widget that'll deliver region specific breaking news, to the tablet's homescreen, while enabling users to reply, favourite and retweet without entering the app itself. Twitter has offered no specifics on the next Android devices to benefit from the app, so unless you've snagged the latest Note 10.1 device, you're bang out of luck for the foreseeable. |
