BLIP: Get your kicks with Instagram snaps as Adidas announces custom trainers app Posted: Adidas has revealed plans to allow Instagram obsessives to create custom trainers based on their filter-happy snaps. The MiAdidas app will launch for iOS and Android in August, which will allow users to create a pair of ZX Flux sneakers emblazoned with their own images. "Print your favourite photos straight on to one of 2014's hottest silhouettes and make a statement on your sneakers like never before... the possibilities are endless." Like the Nike ID initiative, which allows the trainer connoisseur to customise everything from tongues to laces, we'd say the MiAdidas plans are a shoo-in for success. Apple sued over iMessage bug that stops texts reaching Android defectors Posted: Apple has been hit with a lawsuit over a persistent iMessage flaw that prevents texts being delivered to former iPhone users who departed the iOS ecosystem to use Android phones. The long-existing flaw affects some Android users whose phone numbers were previously associated with iMessage through an iPhone. The result is that iMessage users believe a text sent to an Android counterpart has been delivered, but the recipient never receives the message. Neither party is aware of the issue. It appears the problem is device centric, with iPhones believing all numbers previously associated with iMessage are still attached to an iPhone. That means delivery will still be attempted over the web, rather than via cellular networks. No real fixThe situation may now come to a head as a result of a class action lawsuit filed by a Samsung device owner, upset her communications with iPhone users have been curtailed. Apple currently has no real solution for the problem, but current workarounds involve iPhone users deactivating their number on iMessage before switching, or the sender deleting and re-adding a contact. It'll be interesting to see if this legal action encourages Apple to resolve the issue which blogger Adam Pash claims, the company has no idea how to fix. He wrote: "Apple has completely hijacked my text messaging and my phone number portability (portability between devices, not networks). No one can fix this but Apple because it's a problem at the device level, which means people in my position have no recourse but to wait for Apple to figure out what the problem is." Google Hangouts' new Outlook plugin aids the working from home crowd Posted: Google has added a new plugin for its Google Apps suite that allows Microsoft Outlook users to easily set-up Hangouts video conferences with each other. The new integration allows Outlook users to engage in video chats directly from their Mail or Calendar applications, providing they have Google Apps open in the background. The Hangouts Plugin for Outlook, which must be installed on Microsoft systems, will be particularly useful for those Outlook users who work from outside the office. That way they'll be able to schedule chats with their contacts and colleagues without switching between Microsoft and Google suites. Users will also be able to join live Hangouts by clicking links from within their email. Chromebox friendlyThe plugin will prove handy for those using Chromeboxes to schedule meetings, while in other circumstances employers will need Google Apps for Business installed. To install the plugin, users must have administrator privileges on the office computer. |
