Updated: iPhone 5 release date: when is it? Posted: Apple recently held a press conference on Tuesday 4 October, where the company unveiled the iPhone 4S. Until that point, rumours abounded that we were going to see the launch of the iPhone 5. Now that the iPhone 4S has broken cover, we can turn our collective eye to the the iPhone 5 release date - when is it? On 18 October 2011, we reported on sources who claim that the revised iPhone 5 release date is now set for summer 2011, after the anticipated handset hit delays back in February which stopped it from being ready for the October event. Ashok Kumar, an analyst at Rodman & Renshaw, claims the iPhone 5 is "the last project that Steve Jobs was intimately involved with".
