How to watch Gavin and Stacey Christmas Special online: stream free from UK or abroad...today

Posted: 25 Dec 2019 12:12 PM PST

Nine years...nine years we've waited and now it's finally time for Gavin and Stacey to make a triumphant return to our screens. Get prepared to ditch your family, forget the presents and leave the Christmas meal behind because your only plans this Christmas Day should be to sit down and watch the Gavin and Stacey Christmas Special online.

With all of the cast coming back together (hopefully not for the last time) this will be a Christmas special not to miss. And, in the nine years they've been away, not much seems to have changed.

Chaos still reins, Gavin and Smithy still have the kind of best friend relationship we all aspire to and Nessa...well Nessa is still just living her best life. With an expected level of mass hype in the run-up to this episode, the cast has kept quiet about what else to expect, so you'll just have to wait until Christmas for all to be revealed.

So, cancel your Christmas dinner, order a Chicken Bhuna, Lamb Bhuna, Prawn Bhuna, mushroom rice, bag of chips and 9 poppadoms, eat it all in your car and watch the Gavin and Stacey Christmas special online.

Below, we've found all of the times and information you need to catch this special even if you happen to be away on holiday at the time and find the content geo-blocked.

How to watch Gavin and Stacey Christmas special online for free in the UK:

Luckily for anyone in the UK, this Christmas special is easy to watch. All you have to do is gather around the TV on Christmas Day and head to BBC One at 8.30pm.

You can also tune in and watch the Gavin and Stacey Christmas Special online instead. It will be free to watch on BBC iPlayer or you can use the platform TVPlayer.com to catch it all, a fluid and easy to use service.

Not in the UK? Scroll down to see how you can see the show from elsewhere.

Stream Gavin and Stacey Christmas Special from anywhere else in the world for free:

Away on holiday over the Christmas period? Not an issue. While you will find that the BBC content is geo-blocked while you're away, there is an easy workaround to fix this.

Simply download a VPN - our favourite is ExpressVPN - and use it to change your IP address to one in the UK. Once you've done that, you just need to head on over to  TVPlayer.com and you'll be watching like you're back in England.

Sound complicated? It's actually as easy as 1,2,3:

The highs and lows of PC gaming in 2019

Posted: 25 Dec 2019 12:00 PM PST

As we say goodbye to this past year (and decade) of PC gaming, it’s time to take a look in the rearview mirror and reflect on what our beloved platform has been through in 2019.

It’s been a year refreshingly free of big controversies and studio closures, while subscription services and streaming have begun offering intriguing new ways for us to play some of the best PC games ever made.

Here are the highs and lows of PC gaming in 2019.

The GPU drought is over

In 2018, surging demand for cryptocurrency caused investors to buy out GPUs on an unprecedented scale.

Crypto-miners would buy multiple copies of the same GPU, before installing them in gritty unloved rigs designed for the sole purpose of mining cryptocurrency (pretty much the PC hardware equivalent of a battery chicken farm). GPU stocks ran dry, prices skyrocketed, and PC gamers lost out.

Thankfully, with the demand for crypto subsiding in 2019, we can once again get the latest gaming hardware at sensible prices, and you’d hope that Nvidia and AMD will be better prepared should there be another GPU sales spike in the future.

Epic Game Store plays rough to attract gamers

The reception to Epic’s new game store has been as tumultuous and unpredictable as recent general elections in the UK. People swing one way on it when it dishes out high-quality free games, then the other way when Epic poaches major titles initially slated for a Steam launch right from under our noses.

No one is arguing that a bit of competition for Steam is a bad thing, but beyond throwing bags of money at developers Epic hasn’t added any features to make its platform a pleasing service to use.

Store and search features are threadbare, there’s no family sharing, or streaming, or any of the other features that make Steam the dominant force in PC gaming

It’s not yet a platform that feels worthy of the big-name games it hosts, yet PC gamers are forced to settle for it if they want to play them.

Xbox Game Pass is exceptional

This year, Ubisoft and Microsoft joined the fray of subscription-based PC gaming services, following on from EA’s solid Origin Access offering that’s been around for a few years now. But of those two, Microsoft’s Xbox Game Pass for PC has stolen the show with its bargain introductory subscription and games collection.

What makes Game Pass stand out is the element of pleasant surprise. Yes, you get Microsoft’s top first-party games, but also a wonderfully curated mix of indie and mainstream games from recent years.

Top games of 2019 like Metro: Exodus, Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night and Outer Worlds are here, as well as indie hits like Hollow Knight, Slay the Spire and Void Bastards.

Xbox Game Pass has emerged from nowhere to become the best-value game subscription service on PC.

Google Stadia not ready for the big-time

It happened with Amazon before and now it looks like it’s happening to Google. You can have all the money in the world, but if you don’t understand the business of gaming then it’s not going to help you.

Google Stadia is a great concept, and perhaps it should have had more time in the oven before launching with a weak games catalog, confusing (and not cheap) pricing, and performance issues. It’s an awkward, multilayered service that shows the streaming revolution isn’t ready yet. Or maybe that Google isn’t the company to lead it.

Of course, it’s early days for the service, and there are more than likely better days to come as Google finds its feet, But in its current half-baked state it just doesn’t justify the price tag.

Weird alternative games find success

2019 hasn’t seen the same splurge of big-name IPs and obligatory open-world RPGs we’re used to seeing. It’s been a strangely quiet year, but that’s allowed for more experimental games to step up and rank among the year’s finest.

Dour detective RPG Disco Elysium is arguably the best of them, while Outer Wilds proves that you don’t need an endless cosmos and huge budgets to make a beautiful space exploration game. The most mainstream RPG out this year was Obsidian’s The Outer Worlds, and even that retains a certain personal, low-key charm reflective of its not-quite triple-A budget.

Other notable titles in this year of refreshing oddities are the likes of Untitled Goose Game, Sunless Skies and the inimitably weird Hypnospace Outlaw, which sees you doing detective work on a trippy 90s-style interwebs.

Loot boxes continue to plague PC gaming

In 2017, the EU and other governments around the world cracked down on loot boxes, with EA’s Star Wars Battlefront II at the crux of the debate around the randomised bundles of in-game items that players (often children) spend real-world money on.

Belgium outright banned loot boxes, the Netherlands brought in heavy restrictions, while other countries - including the UK - continue to debate whether it’s in fact a form of gambling.

While the practice has died down in mainstream premium games since then, a recent study by the University of York found that the presence of loot boxes continues to rise. In 2019, 71% of the 463 most played Steam games studied contained loot boxes, up from 4% back in 2010.

They may not be garnering the headlines like before, but loot boxes continue to be common practice in 2019, which leaves a lot of young people at the mercy of this morally dubious monetisation system.

Oculus Link makes the Quest a PC headset

Virtual Reality is the most technologically mind-blowing niche in gaming. Anyone who dons the headset comes away impressed, and yet uptake continues to remain fairly low.

Enter the Oculus Quest, a deceptively powerful headset that plays many of the best VR games using its internal hardware. The Quest recently received an ‘Oculus Link’ update that lets you use it to also play PC VR games using a USB 3.0 cable. The update is still in beta, but already makes the Quest work largely like a PC headset, making it the most versatile VR headset around.

Quest sales figures have been impressive, and in the last quarter were “nearly double the combined sales figures of the Oculus Rift S and Oculus Go”, according to research company SuperData. The wireless Quest seems to be just what people have been waiting for, but its PC compatibility makes it hands-down the best value VR proposition to date.

Red Dead Redemption 2 PC

Red Dead Redemption 2 launch problems

Easily the most anticipated game release making its way over from consoles in 2019, Rockstar’s formidable western epic has been an absolute disaster on PC.

From the time-limited exclusivity on the Epic Game Store reminding us that PC is now an open corporate battleground over consumers, to a buggy launcher that’s prevented countless people from playing the game, Red Dead Redemption 2 on PC is one of the worst triple-A game launches in recent memory.

Yes, the inherent diversity of hardware and software between different PCs is a major consideration developers don’t need to deal with on consoles, but the shambolic launch of Red Dead Redemption 2 shows that PC still too often remains an afterthought for publishers.

Alyx Vance and Gordon Freeman pursued

Half-life: Alyx could be a watershed moment in VR

OK, so it may not quite be the unconditional Half-life 3 confirmation we’ve all been meming about, but given that the development team is bigger than has worked on any previous Valve title, Half-life: Alyx is clearly a game that the studio is taking seriously.

It will be a fully VR game, and prequel to Half-life 2, casting you as freedom fighter Alyx Vance as she tries to survive the streets of City 17, an eastern European city taken over by an intergalactic empire called the Combine. This is no tech demo either, but a full game that’s set to be longer than Half-life 2.

While VR has been relying on semi-successful conversions of games like Skyrim as its landmark titles until now, this is set to be among the first truly dedicated VR titles from a big-name IP. It could be a watershed moment for VR, and the PC gets the privilege of hosting it

Leicester vs Liverpool live stream: how to watch Boxing Day Premier League football online from anywhere

Posted: 25 Dec 2019 11:49 AM PST

Amazon Prime Video is serving up a Christmas cracker with an exclusive live broadcast in the UK of this crucial top-of-the-table Premier League fixture - and we'll tell you how to live stream Leicester vs Liverpool, no matter where on Earth you are.

The past weekend saw mixed fortunes for both teams, with Leicester losing 3-1 away to Man City, while Liverpool bagged another piece of silverware by winning the Club World Cup in injury-time against Flamengo in Qatar.

The historic win in Doha came at a price for Liverpool, with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain picking up what appears to be a serious ankle injury. Leicester's squad appear to have made it through unscathed in terms of player injuries following their mauling by Man City, but there could be lasting damage to the team's confidence and title aspirations following the defeat.

The reverse fixture at Anfield saw as James Milner and Sadio Mane strike either side of a James Maddison's goal to earn the Reds all three points back in October.

Can Foxes boss Brendan Rodgers mastermind a victory against his former club and close the gap at the top? You watch all the action as it happens with our Leicester vs Liverpool live stream guide below. Game of the year 2019: TechRadar’s favorite Xbox One, PS4, Nintendo Switch and PC titles

Posted: 25 Dec 2019 10:00 AM PST

It's been an interesting year for gaming, as the current generation of consoles slowly creep towards the end of their lifecycles. The PS5 and Xbox Series X are officially on the way, landing in late 2020, meaning we're in a kind of limbo between developers releasing games for this generation and announcing plans for next-generation games - some might even crossover.

Despite being in this weird limbo, we've played some fantastic games this year. We've revisited Raccoon City, cursed FromSoftware once again, tried to catch em' all and bothered villagers as a troublesome goose. But which games have truly stood out in 2019?

It’s been a hard task, but the TechRadar team has put their heads together and thrashed out which games were our favorites this year. These aren’t necessarily the games we think have had the most cultural or technological impact, nor are they ranked, they’re simply the team’s favorite games from this year. Let’s be honest, you may not agree with all our picks  - as we all have different tastes and opinions - but it's hard to put together a list that will please everyone.

So, without further ado, these are TechRadar's games of the year 2019.

Best Virtual Reality Game

Blood & Truth

Blood & Truth is one of our favorite VR games ever, never mind this year. Sony London Studio truly knocked it out of the park with this Guy Ritchie style FPS that shows that VR shooters can be wondefully immersive - and downright fun.

Its storyline is super cheesy but, mechanically, Blood & Truth is a marvel, allowing you to interact with objects and weapons as you would in real life (well as much as is possible in VR) and smoothly move from cover to cover through levels.

Honorable mentions: Trover Saves the Universe and Wolfenstein: Cyber Pilot.

Read more: Blood and Truth: how Sony’s London Studio is taking VR to the next level.

Best Mobile Game

Pokémon Masters

Pokémon Masters was somewhat of a surprise success. We always knew it wouldn't hold a light to Niantic's Pokémon Go, but the free-to-play mobile game has definitely held its own in 2019.

Allowing players to battle their way through the Pokémon Masters League, Pokémon Masters emphasizes teamwork and puts the focus on trainer battles. It's been a great year for Pokemon.

Honorable mentions: What the Golf? and Sayonara Wild Hearts.

Best Action Game

Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice

FromSoftware isn't known for making easy breezy games and Sekiro is no different. But that's exactly why we love it. Sekiro is what happens if DDR was an action game set in a gothic ancient Japan. It's breathtaking.

However, if you can't quite get a hang of the rhythm, then things are pretty tough going. FromSoftware's most recent offering is more punishing than we've seen before, but rare moments of success are extremely rewarding - you just need the patience for it.

Honorable mentions: Resident Evil 2 Remake and Devil May Cry 5.

Check out our full Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice review.

Best Action/Adventure Game

The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening

2019 has been a fantastic year for remasters and Link's Awakening is one of the best. Nintendo took the original 1993 and redesigned it for the Switch, giving it a new toy-like art style that simply adds to the charm.

Link's Awakening brings classic Zelda to a younger generation, while improving upon issues that original fans may have had. It's a wonderful trip down memory lane for fans while also being easily accessible for newbies. We love it.

Honorable mentions: Luigi's Mansion 3 and Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night.

Check out our full The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening review.

Best RPG

The Outer Worlds

When Obsidian Entertainment announced it was releasing a new RPG, there was little doubt that the Fallout: New Vegas developer would let us down. And it didn't.

Although it's not totally perfect, The Outer Worlds is as close to a new Fallout game as we're going to get right now. Blending interesting characters, peculiar creatures, choices galore and a heap of satire, The Outer Worlds sees Obsidian securing its crown as the king of RPGs.

Honorable mentions: Disco Elysium and Pokémon Sword and Shield.

Read more: How The Outer Worlds escaped the shadow of Fallout, according to its creators.

Best Online Multiplayer Game

Apex Legends

Apex Legends took us all by surprise when it kicked down the battle royale door back in February, introducing some fantastic quality-of-life features like sliding and pinging that have since been lifted by its competitors.

While Apex Legends may not have quite taken the crown from Fortnite, its certainly taken 2019 by storm and we're hoping Respawn Entertainment has some tricks up its sleeves to keep players interested in 2020.

Honorable mentions: Destiny 2: Shadowkeep and Tetris 99.

Check out our full Apex Legends review.

Best Racing/Sports Game

Crash Team Racing: Nitro-Fueled

Now, we know that not everyone will agree with this choice. CTR isn't the most technical racing game but it's a lot of fun and we love this remaster just as much as the original - if not more.

Following in the footsteps of the N.Sane Trilogy, Nitro-Fueled sees Crash and co getting a modern makeover. This remaster rolls together content from Crash team Racing, Crash Tag Team Racing and Crash Nitro Kart into one madcap game that you can play solo or online.

Honorable mentions: FIFA 20 and Need for Speed: Heat.

Read more: Crash Team Racing: Nitro-Fueled is a ridiculously fun ride down memory lane.

Best Fighting Game

Mortal Kombat 11

It's not been a great year for fighting games, so this wasn't a particularly difficult choice. Mortal Kombat 11 sees the brutal series returning better (and bloodier) than ever before, while introducing some fresh new features, like Fatal Blows) that move the series forward.

The campaign is solid but really, MK11 does what we expect: let us beat the living heck out of eachother.

Honorable mentions: None (it's been a poor year for fighting games).

Best Narrative Game

Disco Elysium

Disco Elysium has been the dark horse of 2019 for a lot of people, releasing at the tail end to critical acclaim. And it deserves every ounce of that recognition.

Disco Elysium is like if someone made an RPG about Hunter S. Thompson as a grizzled detective. It's bizarre and wonderful. The best part of Disco Elysium? The writing and story. The conversation trees are unlike anything else we've seen this year and show that a game doesn't need to be big budget to tug at our emotions.

Honorable mentions: Control and Outer Wilds.

Best Indie Game

Untitled Goose Game

It's a lovely day and you're a horrible, horrible goose. That's right, Untitled Goose Game sees you wreaking havoc on some (probably lovely) unsuspecting villagers in House House's indie meme machine.

But the memes aren't the only reason we love Untitled Goose Game. It's the exact type of (almost) wholesome content we love to see in an indie game, artistically beautiful and the synchronization between the music and slapstick humor is sheer brilliance. HONK.

Honorable mentions: Outer Wilds and Disco Elysium.

Game of the Year

Resident Evil 2 Remake

It's the biggie and it was a tough call. But Resident Evil 2 Remake is officially TechRadar's Game of the Year.

Resident Evil 2 shows how a remake should be done, elevating the original game into a masterful modern horror experience. The attention to detail is astounding, encouraging players to properly explore RCPD and soak in the experience. Plus, exploring is a welcome break from trying to solve Resident Evil 2's head-scratching puzzles.

Best of all, you don't just have to play it once, you can replay again and again. And we sure will.

Honorable mentions: Control and Death Stranding.

Check out our full Resident Evil 2 Remake review.

Most Excited About

Cyberpunk 2077

Once again Cyberpunk 2077 is the game we're most excited about. It won the same category last year but, now that we know more about it (like that Keanu Reeves will be in it), we're more hyped than ever.

CD Projekt Red's massive dystopian RPG will finally hit shelves on April 16, 2020 and we cannot wait to get our hands on what's sure to be one of the best games of 2020 - well, if the Witcher 3 is anything to go by.

Honorable mentions: The Last of Us Part 2 and Final Fantasy 7 Remake.

Celtics vs Raptors live stream: how to watch Christmas Day 2019 NBA basketball from anywhere

Posted: 25 Dec 2019 06:30 AM PST

Two of the best teams in the NBA go head-to-head in a Christmas NBA clash today, with their sights still firmly set on the playoffs. It's the Boston Celtics at the champion Toronto Raptors and we'll explain where you can live stream NBA basketball from anywhere these holidays.

The Raptors took home the big one last year for the first time in the Toronto franchise's history. This term hasn't been plain sailing so far - they go into this one with a 21-9 record - but they're still well placed to surge on towards another playoffs, with last season's Most Improved Player Pascal Siakam going big on points in this campaign so far.

The Boston Celtics sit second in the Eastern Conference and go in to this Christmas encounter on a three-game winning streak. Jayson Tatum has once again been one of the stars of the show, while Kemba Walker has shown why the Celtics have made him among the best paid players in basketball.

For Raptors fans in Toronto, Celtics fans in Boston and every other b-ball fan out there, we have all the information you need right here to watch a Celtics vs Raptors live stream - no matter where you are in the world and even if there's a blackout where you are.

If you want to watch this basketball game in the US, UK, Canada or Australia, then we have that information for you a bit further down this page.

The problems start if you're abroad while it's on (or can't see it due to a blackout) as your coverage will be geo-blocked by the broadcaster. It's certainly annoying, but yo can still watch (and you don't even have to slum it with a grainy, illegal feed you've found on Reddit) thanks to a VPN. These services let you change the IP address of your laptop or mobile to one in a different state or country which does have a stream. And it's not even hard to do.

A cheap 8GB RAM waterproof smartphone with 256GB storage just went on sale

Posted: 25 Dec 2019 06:00 AM PST

Blackview has dropped the price of its flagship BV9900 ruggedised device to a mere $330 (£255, AU$477) for a limited time.

The price cut comes as Blackview seeks to gather momentum for its flagship model ahead of the launch of its first 5G rugged smartphone, likely to be called the BV10000, early next year.

The BV9900 deal comes weeks after the launch of the BV9800 Pro, a device that sports a FLIR Lepton thermal imaging sensor that gives it the Predator viewing mode and allows it to see in the dark.

Rugged

The Blackview BV 9900 lacks this capability, which explains why it is on sale for such a low price, but it does still come with a Mediatek Helio P90 CPU, 8GB of LPDDR4X and a staggering 256GB of RAM.

It may still be a far cry from what normal flagship Android handsets offer (typically 12GB of RAM and 1TB of storage) but represents a new pinnacle compared to the rest of the ruggedised device market.

The Doogee S95 Pro comes with 8GB RAM but only 128GB storage while the AGM X3 has a powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 845, 8GB of RAM and 256GB storage but has Android 8.1 and costs more than twice the price of the BV9900.

In addition, Blackview’s new flagship model has five (yes five) camera sensors totalling 87 megapixels and has an operating temperature range between -30 and 55 degrees centigrade.

It is IP68, IP69K and MIL-STD-810G rated as well with wired and wireless charging, NFC, an UV meter, a hygrometer, Corning Gorilla 5 and Android 9.0 Pie.

How to watch the Queen's Speech 2019 online for free: stream from UK or abroad

Posted: 25 Dec 2019 03:46 AM PST

A tradition since 1932, Christmas Day will mark the Queen sitting down and once again giving a special Christmas speech to the world. Want to watch the Queen's Speech online? Read on to find out everything you'll need to know.

For many, sitting down with the family to tune in for this speech has become a Christmas tradition of sorts, on the same level as eating turkey, opening presents and drunken renditions of the Pogues. And with millions of people looking to catch the 10 minute special this year, its influence on the UK is undoubted!

But what will the Queen cover? Each year, the theme tends to change, mainly dealing with the biggest occurrences of the year. We wouldn't be surprised if she addressed Brexit, the General Election, the royal baby and of course, wished the public a merry Christmas.

Last year, anyone who went to watch the Queen's Christmas Speech online was met with the history of the speech, praise for the military, a recap of what has happened to the royal family over the year and the Queen voicing her opinions on how we should treat each other kindly. In other words, it's a wholesome bit of TV, perfect for Christmas!

Ready to tune in? We've listed everything you need to know to watch the Queen's Christmas Speech online below. Happen to be away on holiday this Christmas? Don't worry, we've also mentioned a way to watch it abroad as well.

How to watch the Queen's Speech online for free in the UK:

The pre-recorded Queen's Speech will go live on Christmas Day (December 25). The time to watch is 3pm, with the speech only lasting 10 minutes.

You have a few choices for which channel to head to. It will air simultaneously on BBC One, ITV, Sky One and Sky News. Rather watch it online? It will be available on all of the apps - including BBC iPlayer, ITV Hub and TVPlayer.

Stream Queen's Christmas Speech from anywhere else in the world for free:

Happen to be out of the UK over Christmas? This will likely mean that you find the Queen's Speech is geo-blocked and not possible to watch from where you are. While this is a pain, it doesn't mean you can't watch it.

Thanks to a trusty little tool - a VPN - you can still watch like you're back in the UK. A VPN takes your IP address and transports it back to England, making it look like you're watching from there.

This means you can continue to watch the Queen's Speech while abroad without any restrictions. But what's the best VPN and how can you get one? We've answered these questions below:

At $19, the cheapest color printer in the world has a few tricks up its sleeve

Posted: 24 Dec 2019 07:00 PM PST

Meet the Canon Pixma TS3122, an all in one wireless multifunction inkjet printer on sale at Walmart now for a mere $19, down from $49.

The price includes free pickup but no free delivery; but that still makes it by far the cheapest printer we’ve seen, especially as this includes a full set of cartridges (PG-243/CL-244). free photo paper and a power cord but no USB cable.

On it's own, the cartridge set sells for $27, which is far higher than the price of the printer and the ink by itself. In other words, it is better for your pocket - but not for the environment - to buy them both together.

All together

What do you get in the box? A printer with a resolution of up to 4800 x 1200dpi that can do borderless printing, offers wireless functionality, app printing and has a rear paper tray capacity of 60 sheets. It also doubles as a CIS flatbed optical scanner with a resolution of 1200 x 600dpi.

The Pixma TS3122 has a tiny footprint compared to the competition and weighs significantly less as well. There’s no fancy features like touchscreen functionality, fax, automatic document feeder, USB printing or a network port, but we do like the fact that it is a reasonably well supported printer with its latest firmware dating from early 2019.

While it will not make the cut for the best printers of 2020, it will almost definitely be included in our best cheap printer deals lineup, assuming Walmart doesn’t run out of stock soon.
